I though Michael Keaton made a great Batman and an okay Bruce Wayne. Bale on the other hand did an amazing job as both characters, so that is where I would give Bale the edge between those two.

Katie Holmes was absolutely atrocious in Batman Begins and I'm not one of those freaks that spazzes out about celebrity personal lives.

See, I didn't think Katie Holmes was that bad. She didn't have a really great role or anything; she was pretty much a setpiece. I mean, she had maybe three "big scenes" I can think of and each one was five minutes or less (let's say the heart to heart in the car with Bruce after he tells her he's thought about killing Joe Chill; after the hotel pool party when she says he's changed; and the end scene).

 

I think nobody did more with less than Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine in that movie. In importance, she seems to fall behind those two in that movie.

 

I REALLY find it hard to believe they'd bring her back, though. As noted before, there were numerous reports the studio was pissed she was promoting her relationship with Cruise than her movie.

Agreed. Freeman was awesome. Come on - tell me you didn't laugh when he said "The Tumbler? Oh - you wouldn't be interested in that." There were so many ways to deliver that line. Freeman nailed it.

 

Michael Caine is just an incredible actor. He brings the kind of presence to a role that few others can. He was an inspired choice for Alfred.

 

I'll even throw Gary Oldman into this group. He played Gordon to perfection. Again, another inspired choice. If you read his part - there's little there. To see his performance? Brilliant.

 

Katie Holmes? I don't think her lacluster performance can be blamed on the writing. She had several scenes that COULD have had major impact. She simply didn't deliver. It was like listening to a cold reading in a high school drama club try out. :thumbdown

This really isn't big news. Rumors about the Batman Begins sequel have been swirling since BB's release. Judging from BOF and SHH, the people who have the best chance at getting the Harvey Dent, Penguin, and Joker roles as of right now are:

 

Dent- Liev Schreiber

Penguin- Bob Hoskins

Joker- Paul Bettany

 

Liev is pretty much locked in as Dent, he is by far the fan favorite for the role.

 

In case you didn't know, the online Batman contigent essentially cast Batman Begins, with mega fan favorites Christian Bale, Michael Caine and Gary Oldman getting the roles of Batman, Alfred and Gordon respectively, so expect Christopher Nolan and David Goyer to follow suit with BB2 after BB's success.

 

You can expect Hulme, Depp and Ecclestone to get auditions for the Joker as well, but as of now it looks like Bettany is the favorite. The Penguin is really still up in the air, but Hoskins has had some run as a likely candidate as well.

 

The basic outline for BB2 is out there as well if you know where to look...Ill give a you hint...

In the Batman Begins world of 'reality' expect a lot more grittiness with the Joker character. He is supposed to be a sick, twisted, unfunny, serial killer - Nolan will deliver.

It'll probably look a bit different. The textures look really cheap and not really Joker-esque. More like someone that pieced together a suit from one of those ghetto suit shops. I just want Joker to be like Joker instead of Jack Nicholson in makeup.

Agreed. BB was so dark to begin with, I expect that the Joker will be a darker more realistic character as well.

Meh, I don't want realism, as much. There has to be some little smidges of campiness. I mean, Batman isn't Batman without the giant penny and dinosaur statue in the cave (a later comics interpretation).

 

The Joker, to me, as written by Frank Miller is probably one of the best because he almost never laughs. Here you have a killer clown and most of the time he looks bored to tears or really depressed. I think ultimately the Joker is driven by his madness, then later his hatred for Batman. So, this Joker should be on a scale of 1 to 10, a 13 when it comes to crazy. I think it's when they do to much that the character doesn't work and try to go overboard to say: "Look, this guy's crazy!"

 

I like the idea of the heist gone wrong, falling in a vat of toxic sludge Joker (as presented in Tim Burton's Batman and in the comics). But, after the first outing, I highly doubt Nolan and company will let the fans down.

Yeah, I agree. I don't mind Joker being a little campy, but I don't want the giggling jackass that some people want. I always though Joker would be a pretty tormented guy for pretty obvious reasons and I think he'd be really interesting if they portray him that way. I don't want cheesy gags and such, just someone that's got that creepy look and is a real sadist.

Again, I really think Jason Lee would be a 'perfect' joker. He has that camera presence, and can play versatile roles, I think. He's a funny guy, but a tremendous actor IMO.

If I would have had to have cast him I would have said (pre-Gordon) Gary Oldman. Potentially a scaled down Steve Carrell or Jim Carrey. I think John Turturro would be an interesting choice, too.

He did a good job in his first villain role in 'Firewall'...but ya, I'm not sold either. I think he could make it work, but he's very unproven.
