February 20, 200620 yr I put my contribution towards the team from over 100 miles away when I have FSN Florida/Sun Sports on my TV. I also buy stuff like hats, go to some games, and spread the word. But living in the Metro SoFla, I understand how difficult it is to follow the team in person. The Marlins need to figure it out so that people can afford to go to games one night a week (I used to go tuesdays) in a Season Ticket pack and make it like football scheduling...except over a season. In short, the Marlins do not make it easy anywhere but price...and even that they are raising.
February 20, 200620 yr I'm not going to argue if South Florida will accept to the changes. Just that changes are necessary, and that you're going to alienate people while progressing. And I wasn't talking about you... unless the shoe fits. There is a give and get in a fan-team relationship, and the equality of that relationship is largely sibjective based on the person. It's the people that expect there to be an equal amount received back that begin to slight what little they have received.
February 20, 200620 yr The question is whether they are worth paying attention to, not whether it's worth paying to go and see them at the stadium. Paying to go and see them is another matter, but anyone who answers no to the former question isn't a Marlins fan.

Paying to go and see them is another matter, but anyone who answers no to the former question isn't a Marlins fan. exactly...i live in massachusetts...so i dont have the luxury of getting to many games...but im a diehard and have been since 93...and i will love this franchise with everything i have unless they move the team...these are our marlins...and not every team can have a winning team every year...but i feel much better about this team as we have players who will be excited to be out there everyday playing the best sport in the world rather than the also rands who slacked off and couldnt pull their sh*t together last year...all the negativity on this board, all the negativity from the national media...that this firesale will destroy the team, thats its bad for baseball...i say the hell with all of them...im a marlins fan, i wear my black and teal gear with pride here in massachusetts and i catch alot of grief for it...its time we stand up, believe in this team against all odds, get this stadium deal done somehow and show the world that fans in florida are among the best in the world...come on people...BELIEVE or shut the hell up because this world, this board doesnt need your negativity...and lastly...LETS GO MARLINS!!!

So you feel better about a team that will lose over 100 games than a team that had a 1.5 game wild card lead in mid september?
February 20, 200620 yr So you feel better about a team that will lose over 100 games than a team that had a 1.5 game wild card lead in mid september? It's funny how so often those identify themselves with football (especially biggest losers in the game) seem to be the most obsessed with spewing poison. The Marlins aren't quitters like the Jets, and one thing is for sure they won't be anywhere near the embarrassment either.
February 20, 200620 yr So, to those saying they won't be paying attention this year: does that mean you won't be posting in the Marlins section of this site? And Salguero's name sounds familiar- has he done any pieces for ESPN before?

All I did was ask a question about something he said. The marlins arent quitters like the jets? hahaha your joking I hope. How did the marlins finish last year? We went from 1.5 games up to about 5 down or something like that in the last 10 days of the year.

It's hilarious the way you use the word "we" as if you're a fan of the Fish.

Please forgive me for ever trying to pass myself as a marlins fan. I would say something about the dolphins, but you are not a dolphins fan, your name is not Dolphins2003

February 20, 200620 yr Of course they're worth paying attention to. It doesn't cost anything to pay attention to them. Yeah, we're going to suck, but I look forward to at least having a game to watch every night if I've got nothing else to do. It won't be like previous years, where I might make watching the game my "thing to do"...but if I've got nothing else going on, it'll be nice to have a baseball game on. I don't consider them worth spending money on, for the most part. Each person has to come to his own decision just how much they're worth. But the cost of paying attention is approximately nothing, so they're worth that.
February 20, 200620 yr The Jets are, and not surprisingly, the laughingstock of the NFL. What being a Jets fan has to do with being a Marlins fan I have no idea (even if I disagree with JetsMania about the Marlins' worthiness of attention), but you probably just made the Arizona Cardinals and Detroit Lions (among others) X-Mas card lists for this statement.

So you feel better about a team that will lose over 100 games than a team that had a 1.5 game wild card lead in mid september? i feel better about a team that will try...that isnt old and only getting older...i mean realistically...how many more good years does lo duca, castillo, lowell, and delgado have...the correct answer is not many...if you have any observational skills you could see that keeping the team the way it was was a bigger detriment to the franchise than gutting it and putting some of the top prospects in baseball together...but at least these guys will play every game like its their last...was gutting the team a ballsy thing to do...absolutely...but if it helps get a new stadium and gives us a solid team in the years to come, then im all for it...

Man, I was agreeing with you a lot until that last part. We killed any chance to get a stadium done, just cut revenue to allow Loria to pocket more money and allow the lame-duck status to continue for a little longer. If anything, the tear-down hurt the stadium chances, given the inability of the Marlins to make a meaningful threat.

February 21, 200620 yr yeah but its not like having a decent team was attracting any fans either...so the best we can do is hope that with the money he saves this year...will go into the stadium fund and not under loria's couch cushions... Precedent would suggest otherwise but I hope it happens.

February 21, 200620 yr Yeah, of course, I'm going to pay attention to my team, the Florida Marlins. I'll even see a bunch of games despite my compulsion to punch Loria right in his skull-zone.
