Culpepper a Dolphin

Featured Replies

So to recap

two years ago AJ Feeley was traded for a 2nd rounder in last years draft

2nd round miami pick = #3

this year Daunte Culpepper was traded for a 2nd rounder in the draft

2nd rounder miami pick = #20

Daunte Culpepper cheaper then AJ Feeley was.

Do you realize how dumb Dave Wannstadt is?

Some things to consider:

1. Brees wanted alot more money then Cpepp is getting

2. Culpepper has said he will restructure his contract already

3. Culpepper is cheaper then brees is upon the cap

4. Knee injuries have a better chance of coming back then a shoulder injury

5. We are keeping a system like Scott's was last year which Culpepper used to run.

Culpepper is only 28 years old right now I believe. So you have 1 year older then Drew is if that is so. (might be 29 at most).

Basically we now have a wonderful offense.

QB -3 time probowler

TE -2 time probowler

WR1 - probowler last year

WR2 probowler 3 years ago (booker)

I think we sign a Guard, sign a Safety, perhaps a WR/OLB and then wait for the draft most likely except small pieces.

All we need right now is a center on offesne and a couple pieces on defense like SS,CB and depth at LB...

The only thing that sucks is that Gus will likeley start the year as the starter.

Gus will not be back just to be a backup, even if it means being the starter for the first few games. Remember that he left Minnesota because Dante was the starting QB and he wanted his shot and now the same situation will happen here. There has to be another backup QB that this team can pickup for a few games next season.

I am all for trading down to the end of round 1 for more picks and selecting Antonio Cromartie and then taking someone like Omar Jacobs round 3 to develop or using our round 1 pick on Chad Jackson if we don't land TO.

And now imagine if the whole Ricky situation hadn't gone down. How many more picks could we have gotten for him?

I am so happy with this move. I was never sold on taking a QB with an arm injury over a QB with a knee injury. While Pepp might lose some mobility at least we do not have to worry about him turning into Brokearm Pennington.

Completion % is ALMOST a worthless stat. Passer rating is WAY more valuable. You also want to take a look at how often your passer turns the ball over.

Culpepper = 91.5 [72.0 w/o Moss] almost 2 int's per game - 5 fumbles in 04 alone

Brees = 84.9 [104.8 with a healthy team] less than 1 int per game - 4 fumbles in career

I think the Saints are going to find that Brees was a bargain. Sadly, I think the Fins will find Daunte to be a flop.

How bias are those your posting? Culpepper best season was when Moss was injured through out the whole year.

Let us all try to remember that in all of his years in the league, Brees has had 1 (one, uno) great season and that was two years ago when he led the Chargers to the playoffs. And let us not even try to compare the Chargers to the Saints. At the end of the day, Archie Manning may not have wanted his boy to play in San Diego, but these days they are in much better shape than the Saints are.

Well, not really who I wanted, but he is the best QB Miami has had by far since Marino. Now they need to get a corner in the draft and sign another offensive lineman. No matter what way you look at it this team is better today than it was yesterday and really that's all I care about. I would have loved to have Brees but with him coming off rotator cuff surgery there is no telling how good/bad he will throw the ball after it.

Agreed

Someone like:

Bobby Carpenter

Cromartie

Chad Jackson

Darnell Bing

maybe even a Max Jean Gilles if the others are gone

Then pick up an extra 2nd for there to use this year. Jacksonville will most likely want to trade up for a RB I bet since they havent been able to nab a good one.

atleast hes a QB that can run and doesnt need this sucky ass O line's help.

in actuality our O Line wasnt that bad last year. in fact it was rated as top 5 due to the lack of sacks allowed. the combination of R&R put up excellent numbers for a dual headed backfield. hudson houck worked wonders with our guys last year and will improve them ever more this year.

seriously we have to get a WR to go along with chambers, and no booker aint the answer

Amen.

I would have preferred Brees, but I'm confident in Saban making the right call here.

holmes and chambers sounds like a lovely combo to me. But I really wanted Ko Simpson

How bias are those your posting? Culpepper best season was when Moss was injured through out the whole year.

Granted - I will freely admit that I detest Culpepper.

HOWEVER - let's set the rocord straight. His best season was in 2004. Moss missed only the last 3 games of the season [not the WHOLE year] and still had 50 receptions and 33% of Culpepper's td's. In 2003, Moss accounted for 17/25 TD's [68%].

During their tenure together, Culpepper threw 73 of his 129 TD passes to Randy Moss. That equates to 56%. As large as that number appears, there is no way to determine how many of those remaining 56 TD's were made because Randy was being double covered... I'm sorry, but both of their successes were interlinked.

I thought Daunte's knee injury was too bad for him to be ready by opening day?

Also, when comparing the two consider that Brees is gonna get paid 10 freaking million a year. Not to mention that 10 million signing bonus.

We have to pay a 6 million roster bonus on Culpepper this year, but his salary is only 2 million. Then, basically for the next 3 years his salary is at 6 million.

We can at least one more very good player with all that money we're saving.

Of course their successes were interlinked. That's true of any WR/QB combo. But you can't argue that Culpepper depends on Moss to be a very good QB because 2004 proved that wasn't the case. It's also misleading to make an arguement based solely on TDs. This isn't fantasy football. The Vikings ran a ton of plays for Moss in the end zone. If you look at yardage, the numbers aren't nearly so lopsided. For example, in 2004, Moss accounted for less than 16% of the Vikings passing yardage.

Also, in 2004, Moss only caught passes in 11 games, so even though he appears to have played in 13 games, I think it's a pretty safe bet he barely played in 2 of those.

It is that is why they were willing to trade him otherwise a player like him never would of been up for trade.

But Brees shoulder most likely wont be ready either.

Weren't there reports that his rehab was ahead of schedule? (Brees)

I don't know, Culpepper with a bad knee and what about his trial thing for the sex boat scandal?

The whole demanding a trade through the media, berating the organization and still having the "love boat" fiasco on going probably had more to do with his availability than his knee. And if his knee is all that made him available, then I'd be pretty darn nervous.

draft marcus vick in the late rounds..

he's young but give him a few years he'll straighten.. I believe he can be better than his brother

No thank you.

I've heard that it generally takes 12 months to rehabilitate from this sort of injury.....he was hurt in week 8 last fall. I've read that Dante feels that he can be ready by September.....we'll see.

He's a large man, he's listed at 260#, I've heard that might be on the low side. The big question mark(to me at least) is his knee. He's getting older, definitely will be running less. This was even thought of before the injury. He didn't run as much last year, though his yards per carry (6.1 y.) was the highest of his career. He didn't have any fumbles last year either(surprised me). I felt a little better about the trade(per Dolphins). Then I get a couple of jack*** Viking fans saying that Miami gave up too much (#2 pick). I know the doctors have to clear him, but I'd feel better if that high of a pick was conditional. If Dante's healthy, a #2 doesn't seem so bad. Also, I have too many people saying that Dante was going to be released, before the $6 million roster bonus kicked in. Considering Daute's a Florida native, would Miami have had a good chance to sign him as a FA?

I also agree that he was probably traded more for his off the field problems than his knee. I don't consider the "love boat" that big of a deal. I've heard that Dante's charges could be dropped. The Vikings new owner was embarrassed by the whole story. He trying to get a new stadium built and this didn't help. Also the Vikings wanted Dante to rehabilitate up in Minnesota, Dante wanted to stay in Florida. Dante did a few other things to aggravate the front office.
