March 14, 200620 yr Brees would have been better. If Culpepper is healthy and the 2005 version of him was an aberration, this is a good trade. Watching him last year sans a dominant WR like Moss, I have my doubts. However, if the 'Fins could sign T.O. to go with Culpepper, that offense would be dynamite.
March 14, 200620 yr Author Did I miss a dolphins forum or a culpepper forum over here? As this isn't a free agency signing and with the high # of dolphins fans i think it deserved it's own thread if I missed something then chalk it up to my ignorance

March 14, 200620 yr I wanted Brees.... You and me both. Although I think that now that the Dolphins have a QB that they can win with for a few years and they can focus on more important areas of the team that need addressing. I guess you can't go wrong either way.
March 14, 200620 yr I'm hardly the world's biggest Culpepper fan. I would rather have had Brees, too. That said, it seemed like Saban wanted Brees a little more too. We can pretty much assume Brees' price tag was just too high. So, I'm fine with this move, if it made more financial sense. The other thing is that Culpepper is coming of a knee injury that most people seem to fully recover from. Brees is coming of an arm injury, which is obviously worse for a QB, and which some people struggle to come back from. We'll have to prepare ourselves for about a turnover and half a game from Culpepper. I worry a little about his ability to pick up a new system, and I worry about his mental toughness should we reach deep into the playoffs. But, on the plus side, he's always managed to put up points in Minnesota. He is an extraordinarily accurate passer at 64.4% for his career. If he retired today, he'd be the #1 QB all-time (current leader Steve Young is at 64.28%). Hopefully, he will remain a threat to run the ball. He's the best QB we've had since Marino, no matter how you feel about him. So, all in all, you have to be pleased with upgrade if you're a fan of the Dolphins. Oh, and he definitely has a tendency to hold onto the ball too long, so I hope our O-line is at least as good as Minnesota's.
March 14, 200620 yr I would of preferred Brees also. I've had too many Monday mornings hearing Viking fans lambasting Dante's play on Sunday. And this was before the injury factor came into play. He seems to have a niche of turning it over. Not that this matters, but I've never had him in any fantasy league.....I avoided him like a disease. I hope I'm wrong.
March 14, 200620 yr Good news, but we still need to draft a franchise QB...how long do you all think Culpepper will last?
March 14, 200620 yr drew was a douche bag, he had a chance to come to a team where the fans would have embraced him and loved em, and he threw it all away, i really wantted culpepper sh*t 2005 he sucked but look at the issues the man faced his head wasnt even in the game. think of the 2004 culpepper thats who were getting, and from what i know this is the biggest upgrade you can imagine, with that all said, who da back up qb? Cleo Lemon? and the 3rd string is some young dude we draft BYE BYE GUS!!!!!!!!! finally a mother f***in qb how old is culpepper?
March 14, 200620 yr Culpepper is from the "Throw the ball really high and far and hope your receiver catches" school of QBing. The Vikes made out pretty well for a player everyone knew they didn't want.
March 14, 200620 yr Culpepper is from the "Throw the ball really high and far and hope your receiver catches" school of QBing. The Vikes made out pretty well for a player everyone knew they didn't want. Highest QB accuracy of all-time. And you can say Randy Moss this and that, but in 2004, when Moss had all of 49 catches, Culpepper completed an astounding 69.2% of his passes. He can't just be chucking the ball up. Good news, but we still need to draft a franchise QB...how long do you all think Culpepper will last? If he's healthy he should have 6 years or so. It's way too soon to draft a "franchise QB". You gonna bench him for 6 years? For all intents and purposes, Culpepper is our franchise QB.
March 14, 200620 yr His career completion % is second in league history.Culpepper will have someone similar to Moss that has the speed and vertical jump for deep ball. I know Chambers must be throwing a party tonight.
March 14, 200620 yr i can just imagine now, culpepper throws to chambers 23 times in a game, and chambers catches the ball 15 times........ seriously we have to get a WR to go along with chambers, and no booker aint the answer
March 14, 200620 yr So to recap two years ago AJ Feeley was traded for a 2nd rounder in last years draft 2nd round miami pick = #3 this year Daunte Culpepper was traded for a 2nd rounder in the draft 2nd rounder miami pick = #20 Daunte Culpepper cheaper then AJ Feeley was. Do you realize how dumb Dave Wannstadt is? Some things to consider: 1. Brees wanted alot more money then Cpepp is getting 2. Culpepper has said he will restructure his contract already 3. Culpepper is cheaper then brees is upon the cap 4. Knee injuries have a better chance of coming back then a shoulder injury 5. We are keeping a system like Scott's was last year which Culpepper used to run. Culpepper is only 28 years old right now I believe. So you have 1 year older then Drew is if that is so. (might be 29 at most). Basically we now have a wonderful offense. QB -3 time probowler TE -2 time probowler WR1 - probowler last year WR2 probowler 3 years ago (booker) I think we sign a Guard, sign a Safety, perhaps a WR/OLB and then wait for the draft most likely except small pieces.
March 14, 200620 yr http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2368259 Dante turned 29 y.o. in January.

All we need right now is a center on offesne and a couple pieces on defense like SS,CB and depth at LB... The only thing that sucks is that Gus will likeley start the year as the starter.

March 14, 200620 yr The thing we have to realize is that, although Daunte's knee is a worse injury, it isnt worse for a QB. Brees was a heavy risk and although I preferred him, Daunte definitely opens up our offense in terms of his ability to run. Personally Id like to add another stud WR, possibly Moulds, so we can give him the necessary weapons. Also, when is Daunte expected to recover from the knee problems?
March 14, 200620 yr Looking forward to seeing Culpepper and Ronnie in the same backfield.. I think some big named free agents are gonna start coming to Miami now that we are a very serious contender. Give me LaVar Arrington and Chris Hope!
