Hialeah Mayor Robaina in Descarga Deportiva

Featured Replies

Per Julio Robaina

- Things moving very positively

- Official announcement expected by end of April ("I feel positive that it would be a positive announcement")

- Marlins negotiating in good faith

-MLB want to stay in South Florida and looking to close a deal soon

-Looking at solutions to close small funding gap (no amount mentioned), but probably not the 100million being reported

- City is meeting with MLB very soon

- City feels comfortable about providing the Land. No issues at the moment (not specific about track or HH details provided)

Yeah, the way he said it it seems like the funding gap has been closed considerably.

He also said all sides are very positive and want to get this thing done (Hialeah, county, Marlins, MLB, land owners).

I feel better after listening to Robaina.

He has a very easy style and seems honest, not the rude ahole style of the City of Miami Manager

Freshfish, it seems that you and I are loyal listeners of the show. What I liked the most is that we both had the same conclusions after hearing the Mayor speak. He was very clear that there seems to be reasons for optimism.

Agreed. He knows what it would mean for the city and it's pocketbooks.

It's refreshing to know the Marlins may be able to secure a stadium deal in South Florida that doesn't involve Huizenga or Arriola.

What does Descarga Deportiva mean?

Sporting ______

Sports Discharge, if you want to be direct.

Sounds better in spanish.

If a stadium deal is put together in Hialeah, Arriola should be removed (physically) from his position that day.

Why can't this happen already?

:p

If this happens some of those that trashed the Hialeah idea and the city itself should issue public appologies here on the site.

I don't know that there's anyone here that trashed the Hialeah idea. If you think I did you misunderstand. I just have questions about it and reservations about the viability(if it turns out to be the racetrack site). I've said many times I don't care where they buold a stadium, as long as it's within 50 miles of me, which covers anywhere from Homestead to North Palm Beach. Hialeah should be given kudos at the moment for being the only municipality stepping up here in South Florida. I do question the notion that Hialeah has a rabid fan base that WILL GO TO THE GAMES. And I do question Hialeah's sordid political history. But hey, if they build a stadium down here, I don't care how many dead people vote for it.

That comment wasn't directed at you.

as much as I would luv to see arriola get fired, it won't happen... commish Tomas Regalado tried to get him fired this week but no one else on the five-person commision for the city of miami would second the motion and it didn't go to a vote... since Arriola is close allies to Manny Diaz he is safe unless law enforcement steps in which right now they have no reason too.....

God, I hope this interview doesn't light a fire under San Antonio's Ass to come up with better deal. But maybe Loria and Samson finally have told the truth and they really do want to stay in South Florida.
