March 30, 200620 yr Did anyone say we should retire his number and declare him the most valuable player in franchise history? Gee, I don?t see anyone handing him a crown and septor or anything. Some of us just feel that Lenny would be a good guy to keep around. Every team he?s ever been on has praised him as a leader and positive influence. If/when his playing career comes to an end he can still be an asset and this seems to be the most fitting place for him.
March 30, 200620 yr I'll miss Lenny he's a good guy, and I wish him the best of luck, but this should've been done 2 years ago.
March 30, 200620 yr The decision was a no-brainer. No D, no baserunning, and batting .200 / .226 / .267 against minor league pitching in half as many ABs this spring as he had all of last season. Charming guy, though, and I hope he does find a big league job somewhere. Good luck, Lenny.
March 30, 200620 yr The others couldn't because they actualy had to play baseball and practice their skills, not their smile for fans
March 30, 200620 yr I have a feeling that Lenny worked harder than Cabrera does. haha! more gut feelings! :notworthy
March 30, 200620 yr Lenny may not have been the fastest player...or the best fielder...or even the best hitter.... but he was BY FAR the MVP of the 2003 World Champs...Most Valuable PARTIER. Although he played sparringly that year, nobody celebrated HARDER in the locker room when it mattered most. When others were aimlessly spraying champagne at each other in the visiting Yankee locker room, Lenny actually grabbed a few bottles of Miller light, and slowly poured the cheap stuff right over the heads of your favorite players...often dancing (Big Pimpin style). Lenny didn't bother to waste his time popping the bubbly...too messy and elegant for what needed to be done. Rather than swarm the cases of Dom, Lenny went for the unattended to cooler of beer, and the results speak for themselves. When Dontrelle was giving his post-game interview, Lenny was right beside him, pouring cold beer on his head. When the NY media tried to talk to JP, there was Lenny...soaking his buddy in the cheap stuff. For a bench player, Lenny was easily the most excited beer pourer in the room. Lenny wouldn't even let the law stop him, as he was seen pouring a cold beer over the head of Miggy, who was too young to legally drink at the time. Lenny conserved his energy for when it mattered most, and I salute him for it. Lenny...you will be missed. :notworthy
March 30, 200620 yr I've long been an opponent of Lenny's place on the roster. It certainly hamstrung the team in substitutions over the last two seasons. That said I'll agree that he worked hard and he was a great help to the younger players. Good luck in future endeavors, but mostly goodbye.
March 31, 200620 yr The handwriting was on the wall from the outset of spring training. It was the correct decision. This year is about rebuilding and Lenny doesn't fit.
March 31, 200620 yr :lol How many more crazy things can be said about lenny f'ing harris. this is lunacy. how can such an insignifcant player be lamented to such a degree and praised as being some key piece to this season and seasons past? im sure this will stir the hornet's nest of lenny lovers. The same way an old prospect who has yet to do anything in the Majors can be jizzed over for three seasons prior to his arrival :thumbup

March 31, 200620 yr As far as I'm concerned, it took way too long for his roster spot to go to a younger guy. We need to give all of our rookies some experience, since our team has close to none.
March 31, 200620 yr I feel bad for Lenny, he probably deserved better than he got (IE, just tell him where the organization was heading before spring started). That said, the roster spot he was "wasting" will now truly be "wasted" on Eric Reed as he languishes on the bench instead of develops at AAA. It takes a different kind of player to be both productive in limited action, and useful enough to come off the bench, allowing the prized kids valuable playing time at the appropriate minor league level. I'm not saying his best days aren't behind him, or that there are other players with viable defensive ability who should have gotten his spot, but if you're going to take the job away from Lenny and not give it to Matt Cepicky and instead to Eric Reed, that really is just a waste of a roster spot.
