April 11, 200620 yr Lets see the Indians got Grady Sizemore, Brandon Phillips, and Cliff Lee for Bartolo Colon who at the time was older, more expensive I believe, and (fact) not the pitcher Dontrelle Willis is at the present moment. So I would say Willis is worth the following Yankees - P. Hughes, Jose Tabata, Austin Jackson, cash Red Sox - Lester, and 2 of the following Hansen/Jacoby Ellsbury/Clay Buchholz Angels - Wood/Kendrick, Kendry Morales/Eric Aybar, Tommy Mendoza Dodgers - R. Martin, Andy Laroche, Scott Elbert DBacks - C. Young, Carlos Quentin, Garrect Mock Mets - Milledge, Pelfrey, Jon Niese Indians - Adam Miller, Fausto Carmona/Jeremy Sowers, Fernando Cabrera If we do trade Willis we better to trade guys like Messenger, Bostick, Kensing etc first if not you we will lose them for no compensation.
April 11, 200620 yr I actually think Kensing is safe, IMO the FO has him down as a big part of the future bullpen. And rightfully so, the kids got great stuff, I dont want to see him go. Messenger maybe not so much, but I have seen his stuff to and I really like it. Bostick is an odd man out, but oh well. I like the kid, but we are overloaded on pitching. I wouldn't trade Dontrelle, but I'd want someone like Dustin McGowan from the Blue Jays or Chad Billingsley from the Dodgers or Brandon McCarthy from the ChiSox back, someone who could step right into the rotation. But, I hope the Train stays.
April 11, 200620 yr Willis and Cabrera aren't going anywhere for the next 2 years. You can take that to the bank. Well said. A) Sampson/Loria arent THAT stupid. B) Like Marlins 2003 said, the payroll will not take a big hit because were losing Pudge, Delgado and Al "Drop it like its hot" Leiter's salaries.
April 11, 200620 yr Willis gets traded and im officially a red sox fan ... regardless or where he goes :thumbdown :thumbdown :thumbdown why not be a D-Rays fan? they're another low budget team in Florida with some great talent. it works for me And how can anyone ever root for the Red Sox, knowing that the lying piece of mung that is John Henry owns them. :thumbdown I hate the Yankees, but root like hell for them when they play the Red Sox. :whistle

April 11, 200620 yr If willis gets traded, I will never pay to go to a fish game again. I will indeed cancel my season tickets and all.
April 11, 200620 yr Oh come on, dont say all that until you see what we'd get back. Alot of people felt the same about Big Tex at first, but they are all still here. You support the team first, individual players 2nd.
April 11, 200620 yr Oh come on, dont say all that until you see what we'd get back. Alot of people felt the same about Big Tex at first, but they are all still here. You support the team first, individual players 2nd. you support a team when the team supports the community and supports the ideals of what we grew up with for baseball. This management doesnt in any way shape or form. I am sorry to say it as I have been a huge fan for many years of the fish, but really I think it was the worst day in team history when this ownership group took over. They can take back the 2003 championship in my eyes if they gave us an ownership group that would spend money and keep the guys about that we enjoy going to see. That would take care of the season ticket holders and take care of the team in general.
April 11, 200620 yr You cant just throw all the blame on the ownership. With the horrible lease(if I am not mistaken...negotiated before this ownership group took over), they could of sold out over half the home games per year and still had to sell of alot of pieces. Just be glad that Beinfest knows what he's doing when we have to go that route. D-Train is a great guy, an Oakland guy for that matter. Think of the A's and their system trading to get him and what we could get in return. Or, just think of all the teams that would clamor to get him, making the price go continually up in a "They offered what??? Well, what if I throw this guy in" mentality. I want him to stay, but it wouldn't be the end of the world.
April 11, 200620 yr I'm a little late to this party, but I heard two different experts on the radio today talking about how they thought Florida was going to trade Dontrelle before the deadline. One was Ken Rosenthal, the other was someone who is not Ken Rosenthal. Let me just add myself to the pool of people for whom this would be the final straw. If they trade Dontrelle, I'm done. I will probably try to become a fan of whatever team he's traded to. Unless it's the freaking Yankees.

I want him to stay, but it wouldn't be the end of the world. Oh yes we can blame this ownership. They have had chance after chance the last 3 years to get a stadium deal done or get out of the game and sell the team. They have had others ask to become partners and they refuse to give up control. Its obvious to even the most die-hard fan that they don't have the money to be owners and need to get out of the business. The people in Montreal warned us, but many here poo-poo'ed them. Now we know they told the truth. And add me to the list of former fans if Dontrelle is traded.
April 11, 200620 yr I just said you cant throw all the blame @ the owner. If you'll notice, I also said Loria should be forced by MLB to sell.
April 13, 200620 yr A Cubs fan at today game was talkin about Willis being traded by the deadline. He said he read it on some Cub chat board( I didn't get the name b/c I tried to block out what he was saying) that they would love to have Willis back and that Lee/ JP have already gone to management about it with Felix Pie being the centerpiece. I think its BS this guys down here can't be that stupid...or could they?
April 13, 200620 yr D-Train departure? Apr 12 - According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, Dontrelle Willis could be traded this summer if the Marlins decide to further pare their on-field payroll (about $15 million). Fifteen of Florida's 25 players are being paid the major-league minimum ($327,000). If this team gets rid of d-train or Miggy, I say good luck loria with you team I will start my own boycott of the fish....... I don't know......I would be pretty pissed about it.

April 13, 200620 yr WTF? Dontrelle is going to get traded? Whenever we get a good player something bad always happens.
April 13, 200620 yr http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball...3p-345814c.html FOXSports.com reported that GMs believe it's "practically a given" that Dontrelle Willis will be traded by July 31, but Mets insiders were skeptical - "...knowing Jeffrey the way I do," one team source said about the potential for a trade, referring to Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria. "Jeffrey likes to win." ..
April 13, 200620 yr I bet ya. If Dontrelle or Miggy gets traded we will have 1,000 people at the game. Loria is going to get what he wants. Less fans Less people complaing about the relocation.

I think some of the folks here are waking up and finally smelling the coffee. Maybe now we can get rferry to do the same.

I dont know holly but d-train is the most liked and largest name player the franchise has ever had. He is the most popular player nationally and locally for the history of the fish really. If they trade willis no matter what they get back, they are only hurting themsleves.
April 14, 200620 yr Fish experiencing growing pains By Enrique Rojas ESPNdeportes.com Archive MIAMI -- Way before the first pitch was thrown in Dolphin Stadium this season, trade rumors had already been surrounding the best two players on the Marlins' roster: third baseman Miguel Cabrera and pitcher Dontrelle Willis. Olney's Blog In a conversation with ESPNdeportes.com before Florida's home opener against the San Diego Padres, Cabrera and Willis both said they are not paying attention to any trade rumors. On the contrary, they both are very focused on being team leaders. "I am not paying attention to any rumors," Cabrera said. "I have to be prepared to take the mound every five days, and I can't afford to stop and listen to what people are saying," Willis added. Cabrera and Willis, two of the most coveted young stars in the major leagues, are the only remaining members of the Marlins squad that won the World Series three years ago. After failing to make the playoffs last season, the Marlins dismantled the team, sending most of their players to other teams, in what the franchise called "a market correction." The payroll was reduced from $60.4 million to $14.3 million while the team wages an ongoing battle to get the city to support the construction of a new stadium. The latest reports indicate there still could be more "corrections," and Cabrera and Willis could be moved, which would transform the Marlins into something resembling a minor league club. The Marlins have 11 rookies on their roster and have had six rookies in their starting lineup in the first two weeks of the season, including Tuesday's game. "I believe I will stay here the whole year, but I can't say what will happen then," said Willis, who has had two no-decisions in his first two starts of the season despite posting a 1.38 ERA. "I don't think they will trade me in the middle of the season." Willis, 24, finished last season with a 22-10 record and a 2.63 ERA, and he was second in the voting for the NL Cy Young Award. The 2003 Rookie of the Year has a 46-27 record in three seasons. Cabrera is off to a slow start, hitting .250 with one home run and four RBI. "We have a long season ahead of us, and I think the most important thing is to be focused on playing it," the Venezuelan slugger said. "So far, we've looked good, although the standings don't reflect that." Cabrera, who hit .323 with 33 home runs and 116 RBI last season, has been the best hitter on the team since he joined the squad in 2003. He will turn 23 Tuesday and has a .310 average with 78 home runs in his first 410 games as a major leaguer. "I believe Marlins fans will enjoy the style of this team, which is young, but that doesn't mean that it's bad," rookie manager Joe Girardi said. With Cabrera and Willis on the team, the Fish won only one of their first five games. It would be better not to imagine what the team's record would be without it two young guns. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/story?id=2406251
April 14, 200620 yr The only reason Loria would trade Dontrelle and/or Miguel this year is to deliver the final deathblow to the fanbase so he can ensure than he gets low enough attendance numbers to tell MLB this market is no good. If he were to do this in order to pave the way for a move to another city, it would be a despicable move and he would definitely go down as one of the worst owners in the history of professional baseball.
