Other than salary issues, how was that a bad move? Eddie Jones is old now, and Rasual Butler? He was a very average role player.

 

The move I regret is Damon Jones. We have no go-to three point shooters.

Dorrell ended up getting the start tonight. I can't actually watch the game because my cable company completely blows chunks. My cable is out. On American Idol night no less! The nerve!

 

Anyway, tonight's starters:

Wright's off to a good start, with 4 points on 2-2 shooting, and 2 boards.

I really think the west is a little bit overrated honesty. I think the East is starting to catch up to them more and more

D Wright at the half, in 15 minutes of play:

 

4-6 shooting, 1-1 from 3 PT...9 pts, 5 rebs...1 assist, 1 turnover

 

pretty good...

D Wright update after 3:

 

21 minutes, 15 points on 6 of 9 shooting, 3 of 4 from 3. 5 reb and 4 ast.

 

6'8'' swingman with range and athleticism. Can play and defend the 1-3.

 

God I love this kids potential.

I know Payton and Walker urged Stan to use him with them on the 2nd line to start the year and he didn't. Wright practiced with them on their team and line all pre-season and training camp and both vets really thought he meshed well with them and had immense talent and could contribute.

 

He has not been given many opportunities to show what he has in his 2-year-career but when he has, he has shown immense potential. In his rookie year, he scored 30 of Miami's 59 points in a summer league game against a Washington team that included Jarvis Hayes, Jared Jeffries, Jelani McCoy, Steve Blake, Gerald Fitch, Laron Profit and Michael Ruffin (all have played decent NBA minutes). He did that in 33 minutes. Then he got hurt and didn't really play much else there.

 

He also had some limited playing minutes in the NBDL because he was only down there for a short time in the middle of the season, but in the game where he got 32 minutes off the bench, he put up 32 points on 15-22 shooting with 9 rebounds and 3 assists.

 

Hopefully he earns some serious PT next year and becomes a future star for us.

Notes: A draft sleeper. The L.A. native has been playing in relative obscurity in a Connecticut prep school. MVP of the National Prep School Invitational Tournament after scoring 32, 35 and 41 points in three games. Has committed to DePaul but will put his name in the draft. However, he still hasn't hired an agent. DePaul's head coach Dave Leitao. "It speaks to his potential that people are saying he can play in the NBA,'' Leitao said. "He has that level of talent. He does awe-inspiring things. He plays the game the right way: He passes, shoots and shows flashes of brilliance with his athleticism.'' Had a game high 24 points at the Jordan Capital Classic.

 

Positives: May be the best unknown talent in America. Scouts all compare him to a young Tracy McGrady. He's got the complete package. He's extremely athletic (think Corey Maggette), can shoot the ball (he also gets Paul Pierce comparison), handle and even pass. He's also a big time rebounder who uses his long arms and great vertical leap to jump over opponents. He's long, explosive, quick and can play both the two and the three.

 

Negatives: Inexperience. Wright didn't get serious about basketball until three years ago. He's just now starting to tap his potential and many scouts fear that he may be too raw. Is athletic, but still needs to work on his body.

 

Insider Projection: He could sure use a year or two at DePaul but scouts claim that grade issues and a fast rising stock will probably push him into the draft this year. He's helped himself in workouts and should fall anywhere between the late teens and early twenties.

Well I have watched the 4th very carefully to report to the fellow D Wright fans about his play late in the game.

 

On his 7th rebound of the game, he flew out of nowhere to showcase his athleticism and snatch the ball out of the air. His elbow looked like it was clearly over the rim. He then took the ball down court, coast to coast by taking his man off the dribble and driving to the left to make a really sweet running fadeaway. It was a VERY sweet sequence.

 

For the last 3 minutes of the game, they had D Wright play the point guard, both offensively and defensively. He looked very comfortable on both sides and had no problems handling the ball against semi-pressure. He also wanted to post up Tyrone Lue many times but players like Posey and Kapono seemed to want to get their shots in as well in this kind of atmosphere and never gave him the chance.

 

However, after a great night, it ended pretty sour for him. Tyrone Lue made the game winning 3 while Wright was guarding him. They isolated those 2 on each other and Wright actually played him very well and was in his face as he hit it. Nothing he could have done really. Then out of the timeout with 8 seconds left, it looked as if they drew up a play for Kapono. However, that play didn't work and Wright seemed confused as to what to do and didn't make a move until it was too late, launching a prayer about 6 feet behind the line that was highly contested and had about no chance to go in. Really showed his youth there.

 

However, I am VERY happy with his play tonight and he really showed what a stud he can become. Him and Wade could make a great future duo. Career night for him tonight and hopefully something he can build on in Boston tomorrow night in the season finale. And fishfan, he has a 3-year rookie contract and we have a player option on him for a 4th and then own his restricted rights in his 5th as well.
