Well I think guys like Lebron and Kobe proved that you don't need a helluva lot to make the playoffs. As long as Miami has Wade, they'll be fine.

Gimme a break dude the organization isnt being ran by a mouse on a turning wheel like some other franchises. Look I give credit to the Magic's late season resurgance but the fact of the matter is the Heat are still the 2nd seed in the East. Yes the second best team. As long as Wade is on this team I do not see any drastic decline in the quality of Miami Heat basketball for years to come.

It really has nothing to do with the Bull's success.

The Bulls deserved to be in, it's just a shame that the Magic are playing so well and aren't going to get a chance to see what they could do in the playoffs. As far as the Heat go, I was pissed yesterday that they didn't play their main guys down the stretch, but if I were a Heat fan I probably would've wanted it that way. All I know is that the Heat won't be having as easy a time in Southeast division as they did this year.

Oh yeah, our future looks terrible! We only have a 24-year-old 3rd year SG who is among one of the top 2 young players in the game and is drawing comparisons to MJ to fall back on! Wayne Simien has also looked pretty impressive at PF when given minutes and at 6'9'', 250 he has the size and skills to become an above average PF in this league. Oh yeah, and he is all of 23. Last year we took Dorell Wright in the draft, a 6'8'', 19yr old SF out of HS who has drawn comparisons in his game to TMac. Maybe he will develop, maybe he won't but you are banking the same thing on Darko. Wright has not been able to showcase his skills in the NBA because he is on a WINNING team with CHAMPIONSHIP ASPIRATIONS, something the Magic have not known about for a while now. If Wright comes close to filling his potential, combined with Wade and Simien and whoever else we add, our future is looking just fine.

Howard gets a lot of comparisons to Alonzo Mourning, while Nelson with his stature and game has been called a lesser Tim Hardaway by many. Darko? Once Shaq leaves you guys will be in trouble simple as that. Teams built around the 1 guy just do not work, believe me it didn't work with T-Mac, it hasn't worked with Kobe in LA, and it's not working in Minnesota with KG. Wayne Simien, ok, seems like he plays hard got an ok outside shot, doesn't really strike me as a big time impact player. Dorrell Wright, I can't comment on because I haven't seen him play, no one has. You've named 3 young guys, is that all the Heat have?

 

As for your comments about Darko, ask anyone who has seen him play since coming to the Magic and they will tell you that he will be a solid player in this league. Maybe not a superstar, but he'll be a solid starter in this league for a long time. He's already a fantastic defensive player, he's got a good outside shot, he just needs to work on his post-game. The combo of Jameer and Dwight is going to be one of the best duos in the league in the very near future.

 

Those 3 guys aren't the only young guys on our team though that will have a huge impact for years to come. Trevor Ariza who they picked up in the Francis deal is an extremely athletic player, and already a great defender. Keyon Dooling and Carlos Arroyo are the perfect guys for coming off the bench, and Hedo Turkoglu has really stepped up his game over the past 2 years, and has earned that starting SF spot. And none of those guys are over the age of 27. You add a shooting guard who can shoot the 3 and be a complimentary player to Jameer and Dwight, and maybe another big man to come off the bench, and I think you've got a team that will contend for a long time.

Ya once Shaq's 20 million annual salary is off the books, we're not going to spend any of it.

 

As long as J-Will's knees get better over the summer (and I think rest will help), we have our backcourt of the relative future (3-4 years). Haslem isn't going anywhere (he is signed long term), and Antoine Walker isn't chopped liver.

You obviously missed the points I made. I like Darko, I wasn't knocking him but I was making the point you don't know what you have in him yet and your future looks bright and all but you never know. You should also not to expect us to just erode and stand still forever only to decline and vanish. We will make moves in the future when we need to. Not sure what you are referring too. He got rid of Steve Francis, and got Darko Milicic and Carlos Arroyo for basically nothing. (an injured Kelvin Cato, not sure if he has even played for them yet) He's good in my book.

And yet with all of these awful and over the hill players, we still finished 2nd in the East.

 

Not too long ago we fielded a team with Eddie Jones as our go-to-guy and Brian Grant as our "post presence" that finished with the 4th worst record in the NBA. Could anyone predict us getting Shaq, Walker, Williams, Wade, etc...and being where we are now so soon?

 

Only time will tell the Heat's future. With the playoffs ahead, we should all be concentrating on that and not the 2009-10 Miami Heat.

Oh that is 100% true. But there are a few factors in that:

 

1. The Heat obviously knew that ahead of time and were willing to sacrafice for the chance to win now.

 

2. Shaq may retire before the contract ends and I believe we would get salary cap relief then, not positive though.

 

3. Even though his skills have declined, and his stats have gone down, he still is a commanding presence who makes his teammates better and I don't see that changing anytime soon. Even an old Shaq commands double and triple teams and if that stops, he will plow right through anybody 1 on 1, even a few years from now. When the Pistons do it, he makes Ben Wallace, a 2-time DPOY look like a bench warmer.

 

4. I think Riley fielded the wrong kind of surrounding cast and Shaq would be better off with more shooters around him, ala a Damon Jones. He creates a lot of open opportunities with the spacing he creates off the double teams. This year we don't have any real true shooters and we could use some, like a JJ Redick. I would not be shocked to see this team make some more decent sized moves in the future to get this done.

Shaq's still worth the money, and he'll still be worth the money next year. It's hard to say how far down the road he can keep it up, but we'll worry about that when we get there. Hopefully, Isiah is still around; we can just trade him to the Knicks.
