April 25, 200620 yr Who mentioned the site? Is this in Spanish ? MarlinFanMan77 mentioned the site. Yes, it is in Spanish. Thanks.
April 25, 200620 yr Summary of what was said on the show today. 1. The Hialeah Heights site is the one. 2. There are pretty ambitious plans as to the complex that will be near the stadium. This would include restaurants , movie theaters etc. This will be on Codina owned land. The Mayor praised Codina and his professionalism. 3. The Marlins are frequent discussions with the city officials and are now talking about the details of the deal. They can't be sure about the date, but they hope that they will be able to announce something positive within the next few weeks. 4. Del Castillo frequently mentioned this blog in a positive way and encouraged people to join us. 5. The funding gap is significantly reduced. The Mayor did not specify how much. 6. The Mayor is 70% sure that the deal will be finalized. 7. The mayor favor not changing the name of the team. Good job on the summary. From looking at point #2, this looks to be a very complex set of arrangements. And the lack of support cited from the English media may have served, ironically, as a shield of silence needed for serious negotiating.
April 25, 200620 yr Something that hasn't been mentioned yet, but the mayor was hinting that the tax revenues generated at the HH site will help pay for the ballpark. i.e: A Ballpark Tax District
April 25, 200620 yr soo really the maypr said that the gap was significantly reduced thats funny in a very good way
April 25, 200620 yr And the lack of support cited from the English media may have served, ironically, as a shield of silence needed for serious negotiating. Totally agree. I will be so happy if they announce a deal that will appear out of nowhere to the vast majority of the media. The Marlins call a newsconference and the media will think they are annoucing their intentions to relocate... and then BAM!!! Stadium in Hialeah. I hope this happens.
April 25, 200620 yr rick williams is ban from nfl that breaking news :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol This isn't funny. :thumbdown
April 25, 200620 yr that day that san antonio have giving to marlins as dead line Oh, so Jerry thinks that there will be some sort of announcement on or before May 15 because that's the deadline San Antonio gave to the Marlins. I get it.
April 25, 200620 yr u guys think codina got involved Yes I think Codina is somehow involved. He owns the land and is building the surrounding complex of the proposed stadium. I don't think he would have been successful in moving the UDB by himself. He needed the City of Hialeah to go to bat for him. He may have to donate the land for the stadium in return, but that still sounds like a good deal for him, since he would no have been able to develop the land if the UDB had not been moved. We all know that the UBD was moved to be able to build the stadium there.
April 25, 200620 yr holy sh*t ricky williams was suspended Yes and they have a thead about it in the "Other Sports" forum. :thumbup
April 26, 200620 yr This seems like good news. I'm just shocked at the apathy fromthe English speaking media. Thank god for Descarga Deportiva & Mayor Robaina. For a team that has won 2 WS we deserve alot more respect than this. Let's all pray this comes about it sounds like the makings of some good plans
April 26, 200620 yr that day that san antonio have giving to marlins as dead line Now would that be sweet for Marlins fans. Everything sounds great and I appreciate Jerry, miamibaseball. marlinsfanman77, Rachel, BasesLoadedWalk and everyone else who has contributed to this thread.
April 26, 200620 yr All of this sounds great. I am hoping that my team makes Hialeah, my home town, its home as well.
April 26, 200620 yr That would be just fine with me. The HH site is really not more than 5 minutes further than the drive to JRS. Plus I have the option of taking the Sawgrass Expressway and can avoid traffic jams. It may not be a downtown site, but it has all the advantages of the JRS site to service the tri-county area.
April 26, 200620 yr man i would hope Hank says something in the morning about this or tires to get robiana for a interview. 2 sports stations and the barely say anything you kn ow tomorrow they will talk footbll draft and ricky. nite everyone
April 26, 200620 yr Something that hasn't been mentioned yet, but the mayor was hinting that the tax revenues generated at the HH site will help pay for the ballpark. i.e: A Ballpark Tax District So in otherwords an extra few dollars could be added to ticket, parking, etc of that nature to pay for it? Could it be that after all of this time and people saying it that somebody finally could go with this?? That would be just fine with me. It may not be a downtown site, but it has all the advantages of the JRS site to service the tri-county area. It really is. I mean this is a site that is accessible to the people of South Dade and Kendall who moaned for years that DS was too far, it's accessible to people coming from the west coast as they can take 75 all the way to the stadium, people in Palm Beach County only have to drive a few more extra minutes, but significantly less than they would have if the stadium had been put in Downtown Miami and there is even a MetroRail line south of the area where they can have buses shuttle fans back and forth to and from games. No one is ever going to be truly happy about a location, but besides having it right next to DS, this really is the next best place that they could have put it to please everybody.

Could it be that after all of this time and people saying it that somebody finally could go with this?? I'm not totally sure but I think it has to do with the city using a certain % of the revenue that comes in via property or sales tax in an area around the ballpark. I'll have to do some research on this subject.
