May 1, 200620 yr - All the funding gaps have been resolved - The last step is for all the parties to meet and negotiate all the final details - He thinks the announcement would be done before May/15 (or the SA deadline) Stay tuned
May 1, 200620 yr Still not getting my hopes up. We've been here (more or less) before. Yep, once I hear an official announcement I will celebrate. We have been very close to many times...
May 1, 200620 yr Author Still not getting my hopes up. We've been here (more or less) before. my hopes are up, but I'm not assuming this is a done deal/slam dunk. However, we haven't be here before. Jerry made a point that State money won't be a requirement for this deal to work. so if this deal needs the Marlins, Miami-Dade, and Hialeah only. I think we are in much better shape than the OB deal.
May 1, 200620 yr However, we haven't be here before. Jerry made a point that State money won't be a requirement for this deal to work. Fantastic if true, but then I really fail to see how the gap could have been closed, and really find this even less likely.

Jerry hinted two things (however he was vague): - Tax district - Current bed tax, and bed tax collected for the next 3 years he also said, "don't be surprise to see news on the Herald tomorrow

It didn't seem that voters approval was needed, but I really don't know. it seems like they can close the deal between the parties and the Miami-Dade comission
May 1, 200620 yr Wow, great news. Hope this progresses further and we have a deal finalized soon. :thumbup
May 1, 200620 yr Awesome news if its true. However considering how "close" the deal with the OB was, I'm going to wait until they actually have a news conference with Art Boy and Mini Me to announce it.
May 1, 200620 yr I hope to hell its true, but lets wait for it to be official. I will be VERY happy if it is true.
May 1, 200620 yr Author Juan Martinez from the Marlins will be running the show tomorrow. so no news from Jerry until Wednesday

The tax district just needs county approval. We are nearing the light in the tunnel. This is unchartered territory, we have never had a deal so close.
May 2, 200620 yr Tax District would not need voter approval. As for Jerry's claim of news in the Herald tomorrow....that took me by surprise. Dade County seems to have its ducks in-a-row....the team and city were the ones haggling. If big news happens soon, then those two will have reached an agreement.
May 2, 200620 yr We are nearing the light in the tunnel. This is unchartered territory, we have never had a deal so close. From the comments it sounds more like a framework has been formulated. Details have to be agreed. Approvals of the County Commission and City Council have to be secured. There are still many hurdles before one can say this is a done deal. Still, they are encouraging words and indicate progress is being made. :thumbup
