When do we Fire Joe Girardi?

Featured Replies

I can see him quitting midseason, this is a lose lose situation...

I'm not a fan of Girardi, but after all I've read/heard the one thing I'm sure of is he's not is one to walk away.

I don't think he's happy, unless he has an epiphany this season regarding the basics of baseball IQ he may not survive the life of his contract or get rehired, but I'll be absolutely floored if he isn't the manager at the end of this season.

I highly doubt he quits or is fired this season. He's learning on the job too, and the blame should be spread among his bench coaches, who don't exactly lack in experience.

This is true, he some guys with 20+ years as coaches I think.

He can't coach these guys. If you are going to load a team with players coming from the minors you need an established majors coach who know how to teach. Its obvious they spent Spring Training trying to win games and not learning about the fundamentals.

I know the Yankee fans will be dissappointed because they want us to groom him, but Joe its time to go.

There are already two threads on Joe Girardi.

News flash

Joe G is not the problem.

He's no Jim Leyland but the problem is a 15 million payroll and a &$*@ load of tough losses

What does Girardi have to do with any of this? You could dig up Conny Mack and he wouldnt do better. Girardi cant hit for Jacobs or field for Uggla. This is a 10 million club in a league where the average is around 80 m. It's like you buy a house in Miami for 50,000 and you want it to be as nice as those in Coral Gables. You get what you pay for. Rag on the owners.

Girardi can't hit.

But he is supposed to teach these kids how to run the bases and catch balls.

If he can't teach (which has been proven so far) then he is just wasting all this young talent and the prospects will never reach full potential

And you have to ask yourself why cant these kids hit and run the bases, catch balls? It's like Hutton said yesterday, it's not like you dont do fundamentals in AAA or college.

If teams could win with 10 million budgets why would they spend way more?

Nobody's claiming you can win with a payroll of $14M. But you can certainly build a future pennant contender with $14M. As opposed to the Royals who have a payroll around $45M and do not project to be a team that can finish at .500 for the next several years.

Give me a break, this thread is a JOKE!!! Joe is not going anywhere, give the guy a break.. this is his first year not to mention the players play the game not him..

like someone mentioned previously, bring back Bolesy. He's accustomed to managing under these conditions :D

but seriously, I wouldn't expect Girardi to be fired anytime soon. Everyone predicted this team would lose at least 100 games this year so its not like anything unexpected is happening.

I doubt Girardi will be fired before the final year of his contract. Loria doesn't like to pay managers to not work for him. I think that's one reason he brought Torborg back to start 2003. Girardi signed a 3-year deal with the Marlins so I imagine he'll be our manager at least into the 2008 season.

I think calling for Girardi to be fired is about a year premature right now. He's having serious problems with his game management but he has the players playing hard which is the most important part of the job anyway. With this roster, even if he'd made every move correctly we wouldn't have more than 1 or 2 more wins, if that.

When they hired Girardi, I thought they gave him a bit too much power in selecting his coaching staff. I thought his bench coach should've been an ex-manager. Nothing against Gary Tuck - he's supposed to be a fine catching instructor - but I'd rather the bench coach be an ex major league manager or at least somebody who's managed 1000 games or so in the minors. This reminds me a little of when Luis Pujols took over Detroit and he was so overmatched they had to bring in Felipe Alou as his bench coach. I hope they don't do something like that here because it'll undermine Girardi but a more experienced coaching staff would be a big help right now.

Getting swept by the Rockies at home falls on the manager....I don't care (they didn't even have Helton!).

Even minor league teams would not be swept by the Rockies at home. I think that Girardi was made numerous bad moves.

Everyone knows that the Marlins are bad this year but we can't even win the games we're supposed to win.

:cheers

Finally someone who is thinking logically!

Joe G is in utter pain watching the team lose these heartbreakers. He is behind these kids 110%. Not only should he NOT be fired, he is probably the perfect fit for bunch of young prospects.

I really respect many peoples opinions on this board and Ive learned a tremendous amount myself from reading posts but I think this shark frenzy calling for Girardi's job is simply misplaced frustration.

He DOES care about wins and losses and yes he did care about winning games in Spring Training. Winning breeds winning. Was he supposed to try and lose games in Spring Training?????

You do realize that the Rockies are in first place right? (EVEN WITHOUT Helton!)

cant see anyone doing much better

more than half our team wouldnt start for any other team

yet for some reason people here expect this team to be around .500

He won't be fired and I doubt he'll quit. Quitting pretty much ends his chances of ever managing again. Firing him loses more money for Loria.

That having been said, a lot of the blame IS on him rather than the players. He is making terrible, terrible decisions left and right.

I am actually suprised at the "Girardi apologists." We are ONE MONTH into the season, and it is clear that Girardi is the wrong manager for this team. We do not need someone to "learn on the job." We need someone who will give our young players the best chance of winning, and put each one of them in the best position to succeed, despite their youth and their faults. Someone who will allow them the win when they deserve it, and not throw games away when our players put forth 110% effort on the field. These players need to know that Girardi will not allow the game to be stolen from them...HOW MANY LEADS HAVE WE BLOWN IN THE 7TH AND BEYOND?? HOW MANY ONE-RUN GAMES HAVE WE WON??

I will not accept that our payroll is 100% of the reason of our failure. Girardi is part of the problem. With a true manager, I believe we could be .500.

He has mismanaged the bullpen. He has unquestionably cost us games with his mismanagement of our bench. Why is he the "right" manager....because he's young too? That is absurd.

In fact, the only thing I thought he could do well, was to get Willy in the lineup as a catcher (with all of his "catching" expertise), and that has not happened.

I pray he has a quick learning curve, and things turn around. I have faith that he will come around, and bring our young players along so that they develop into their fullest potential. But, how can anybody at this point say Girardi is doing a good job?

we grow together, we win together...correct me if im wrong, but saban wasnt supposed to win many games last year with an "old" team...guys...season is 162 games and it will be a frustrating season at many many times...but they will grow up and learn how to win the close games, do yall think cleveland got good in a season...no...it took like 3 managers and alot of smart trades to build them into a contender...the young marlins will grow up and grow up fast, the talent for them is there, the focus will come and STOP making fire joe threads, its pointless...and heywood...do you ever have anything positive to say about this team? ever?

This thread is a joke, right?

I KNEW this was going to happen when you guys built up all these unreasonable expectations going into the season. Seriously, with the talent and experience level on this team, they're really right about where they should be. This IS a historically bad team, people. If anything, I think the pitching staff has been overachieving just a little. Now, on the other hand, they have been extremely unlucky up to this point, with all those one-run losses. I expect the luck and the talent to balance out...and, in the end, if Hermida comes back, and everyone stays healthly, you will see some improvement. But I think with everyone talking about .500 before the season, a lot of you actually started to believe that...and it's just not realisitic.
