You people are funny.

You go out there whining and complaining about everything. You fail to realize that this year means zero in the grand scheme of things. So we lose games now and a lot of them, did you expect more?

I mean really, you have a ton of rookies, guided by a rookie manager, did you expect flawless execution.

The simple truth is that this team will get better as the year goes along.

Last year's team was disgusting in their ability to quit like they did. These guys are playing hard and giving all they have. So mistakes are made both on the field and in the dugout. So what?

So we win an extra 5-8 games as a result. That gets us what?

So tell me...

Why are you really a Marlin fan?

question

I'm a Marlin fan because I live in South Florida and personally don't really have a problem with this season as long as the club stays down here.

I haven't seen anyone demanding perfection.

Is the execution of the basic plays of the game to much to ask?

not sure why we need a thread like this, whining is common among sports fans.

Or do they do less of that in Houston?

I am a Marlins fan because I use to live in South Florida and was born in Miami. Also because the Isotopes are the Marlins triple-A team.

The way I look at it is, the more losses we get then the better draft pick we get in 2007 and another incredible prospect to help us in the future.

The more wins we get, the better our young kids get.

So tell me...

Why are you really a Marlin fan?

question

To spite Huizenga, Selig, Berardino, The Miami Herald, Fat Hank, Arriola, 'Terrorist' Tom Lee, '6th Borough' NY fans, ESPN, and all the rest who'd like to see us do miserable so they can laugh at our discord.

And, I love baseball. :bandit

I wouldnt know, I dont live in that cesspool known as Houston. I'm simply amazed at the number of fire Giardi threads and calling for his head among other things.

What exactly do some of you want?

To spite ... Selig

?

you mean the guy who found an owner for the team when no one else wanted them by giving loria a sweetheart deal to buy the team. i might have missed something but i never realized selig was anti-marlins or even anti-south florida. i would say he has been quite the opposite.

why keep bringing up the 2005 team and how they "quit" ... yes they collapsed. big f***ing deal. a lot of teams have collapsed in the past but you know they still gave ME something to root for and cheer for 80% of the season ... this team makes me want to puke, I honestly dont even enjoy watching it anymore. Ill wait till 2008 when they dont look like a little league team

call me what you want

stop using last year's team as a scapegoat for everything

and yes im still a fan

Trust me... Selig is not our friend.

Hey... that's MY line! :bandit

Why are you questioning people, Das?

If you even give half a sh*t about this team this year, you're beyond a good fan in my book.

It takes a special kind of fan (or a special kind of stupid) to be lied to, deceived, ripped off and threatened by an ownership group and stick around.

We're not talking about a team like the Royals who misguidedly try hard to win but still fail, we're talking about a group of SOB's who ripped the team apart, spit in the face of all the fans, threatened relocation and then blamed the entire process on the fans. To stick around after that kind of treatment is unfathomable. Lay off, mmmkay?

its called rooting for laundry.

Because they were the local team when I was a kid.

Great post man. I am a fan of the Marlins b/c I am a huge homer. I root for my local teams whether good or bad. I am a fan of the sport first, then the team.

I mean the "I hate Joe" threads are rediculous. How can people expect him to make wine out of water. It's called patience people. Cubs fans learned about it a long time ago.

Think about it. How would Jack have handled this team? Exactly.

Because I can.

No it means you are a fan even when the times arent great.

It takes a special kind of fan (or a special kind of stupid) to be lied to, deceived, ripped off and threatened by an ownership group and stick around.

As far as I'm concerned the ownership group did everything they were promised and it was others that did the lying (aka 2003 when a stadium was essentially promised by Miami politicos). This ownership group has done more good for this franchise than any other. If you want to debate it, fine. We had the most winning seasons and the highest payrolls while under the watch of Jeff Loria. So our payroll now is crap, what do you expect, fans didnt show up for a winning product, why put the effort in?

We're not talking about a team like the Royals who misguidedly try hard to win but still fail, we're talking about a group of SOB's who ripped the team apart, spit in the face of all the fans, threatened relocation and then blamed the entire process on the fans. Ya, the Royals havent won dick in 20 years. We have won 2 titles in the last 9 years. The Royals are just clueless ran by a bunch of clueless people. When they get real baseball people in to run the franchise they will turn it around. The fan base is a pretty good one, albeit tired of sh*tty baseball. For the record I dont blame the ownership group any. I dont even blame them for making San Antonio a pawn, it was pretty much expected. What do you want them to do? Simply say we are going to let things stay as they are, and not try to improve our conditions. As I've said, Miami has never stepped up and actually paid their cost for having a MLB team in their city. That my friends is simple fact.

Great post, Das.

So you don't blame them for holding the fans or players hostage?

You don't have any issue with anything they've done to drive this franchise into the ground over the past 6 months? Even with a new stadium, this fanbase is on life support. New stadiums aren't the panacea everyone's making them out to be.

And as for the lying from others, maybe if the Marlins made more of an effort to be honest (IE, opening books, not using fungible numbers) then it would be a different story. Samson and Loria are a bunch of lying sacks of crap too and we as fans deserve better.

I really, really take issue with you saying this ownership group has done more good than any other...you're giving far too much credit for one flukey World Series win.

...

Everything turned up roses in 2003 and when Loria and Beinfest tried to build a juggernaut in '04 and '05 it feel to sh*t right in front of them.

Huizenga's villified daily yet he did more for this team than Loria. He brought them into existance, he housed them, he spent on them and they won. He didn't get a stadium so he found someone to buy the team, Don Smiley wanted salary purged so Huizenga purged it, it's not Wayne's fault Smiley's investors backed out at the last minute. Loria purged an obscene (and overdone) amount of talent and salary so he could simply rake in MLB welfare all while threatening relocation and telling the fans it's your fault that I have the financial wherewithall to not even honor contracts my own employees negotiated.

I'm sorry, Loria's only a step above Henry because we won a World Series with Loria here, and Huizenga's light-years better.

They might be douchebag liars but they did lose money to put a winning product on the field for years. While I do not agree with choices made, in no way would I stop being a fan of a team due to its ownership. No sense getting all hot and bothered when its out of your control.

I guess I am in the minority of people who feel they aren't owed something from this team. But like I said I am a fan of the sport first.

We have had 3 winning seasons with them.

We had 1 combined with all the others.

Thanks for playing.

You do what you have to do....so while you basically call the ownership group the devil, does that mean that the politicos get a free pass? Cause thats the idea I get.

Has this ownership group screwed up? Sure.

But they have still done more good than any other.

I as a fan deserve more than for a city to dick around my team. Why should they open up their books when the other 29 teams are not doing this?

And Huizenga continues to make money off this team, making it pretty much impossible for the current ownership to make money off us.

Thanks Wayne!

Or you mean the man who foisted off on the Marlins franchise an owner he KNEW didn't have the money to keep this team going in So Fla, because that is a market that had already been poisoned & destroyed by Huizenga & Henry and of course with his own hand by taking away the 1999 All-Star Game.

Yes the man who sent a franchise to Washington without Loria, who he knew would alienate the DC populace and destroy that market once again. The man who knew we have several very wealthy local men who would have jumped at buying the Marlins and would have a new stadium opening next year.

Yeah -- that Selig

IM getting an early jump on my fellow PORTLANDERS and seeing who I like and why... I love the Marlins :D :D
