May 24, 200620 yr They are all really good players, all with a lot of hype as well. Cabrera, Ramirez and Wright have been phenomenal thus far, Reyes has struggled a bit. But long-term they all should be great players. Even better, they should all be playing in the same division for a long time. My question is: What tandem would you prefer to have, not just now, but long-term. IMO Cabs and HanRam should have better careers than Wright and Reyes.

Arod + Jeter is pretty nice if I was gonna win now. but for the future right now? None. There is no other 3B in the catagory with potential of Miggy

Its a wash, maybe a slight edge to the Marlins due to HanRam.
May 24, 200620 yr Ummm...yeah. Cabs and Ramirez are exponentially better than any other left side of the infield both short and long term in baseball except maybe the Yankees, and even that, I'd venture to be debateable. It just sucks Hanley and Miggy play in Florida, that'll hurt them in the "hype machine" I mean, can you imagine if they did this with, oh say the Dodgers?

Reyes has speed but is not a good leadoff hitter with all thos K's and let's not talk about OBP

Of course it may be just the New York spin machine, though.
May 25, 200620 yr Reyes is the weak link in this arguement. With Cabs and HanRam, and probably for Wright as well, you can look at their production to date and say, if these guys keep this up for 12-15 years or so, they'll each be a first ballot HOFer. Of course, it's a little ridiculous to take HanRam's production and extrapolate it out that far, at this point, but still...what I said isn't wrong. With Reyes, on the other hand...dude ain't sniffing the HOF at this rate. I'll take our guys for this season and for the future.

I don't think I'm ready to say Reyes is or isn't going to the HOF at the ripe old age of 22. For what it is worth, all of the scouting reports I've read suggest that Reyes "projects" as a better power-hitter, base stealer, and defensive player than Hanley. I'm not saying this is so, I'm just saying that calling Reyes the "weak-link" in this argument is a bit premature. Hanley is a stud...there is no doubt about it. But Reyes is pretty good too, and I'd bet his numbers would be better if he played in Miami without any of the NY pressure.

Because say whatever you want about his potential, his career numbers at the dish are somewhere between bad and horrendous thus far. He's also about 2 weeks from his 23rd birthday and he needs to make the leap soon or it may never happen.
May 25, 200620 yr I think the only people who would rather have Wright and Reyes are Met fans. David Wright and Cabrera are about the same on D but Cabrera hasnt played there in a while so he kind of has an excuse. Wright is good on offense and all but Miguel is a monster, I dont think David Wright will come close to what Miguel is. And he's younger then Wright and allready has done so much more. If David Wright wasnt playing in NY I dont think he would have as much hype as he does. Id have to say Reyes is better on D then Hanley, but not by much. Reyes is also faster which will help with more stolen bases but Hanley has almost 100 points higher OBP then Reyes so the speed means nothing if you cant get on base. Hanley is better on offense and so far a much better lead off hitter then Reyes and I think Hanley is more of a 2 spot hitter. So without a question Id rather have Cabs and Hanley.
May 25, 200620 yr this is kinda gonna shift the main point here but I ask this... our announcers and many other "baseball people" will tell you that Hanley is not a typical leadoff hitter and is only there because he's simply the best for the job on our team...BUT he has shown he can and does handle the spot beyond expectations...Tommy Hutton says that he may be more suited for a number 3 spot... my obvious question...will Hanley end up as a long time leadoff man because of his current success? Or will he eventually shift to a lower lineup spot?

Reyes has speed but is not a good leadoff hitter with all thos K's and let's not talk about OBP Marlins really have the begininngs of something special in the infield. Miguelito, HanRam and Uggy along with a future really standout first baseman (sorry but I think Jacobs will eventually be replaced) could make for a 6 or 7 year run like the Dodgers had with their infield back in the late 1970's and early 1980's.

He projects to be a 20-30 HR hitter like Miguel Tejada so no he will end up at the number 3 spot Down the road expect a new lead off hitter 1st new CF most likely 2nd Dan Uggla 2B 3rd Hanely Ramirez SS 4th Miguel Cabrera 3B 5th Jeremy Hermida RF 6th Josh Willingham LF 7th new 1st baseman 8th new catcher 9th pitcher except dtrain whom bats 7th because he rocks
May 25, 200620 yr Fishfan don't you think Abercrombie has a chance to stay ? He seems to be playing a bit better as of late.

Jacobs is a guy that the team expects much from, but there is no answer @ CF or C in the organization.
May 25, 200620 yr I have no idea how that double posted. I wasn't even still online when the second went!
May 25, 200620 yr Another left side of the infield to compare Shadez and Cabs is with Young and Blalock, although i favor our guys! Kool Aid will have a long MLB career maybe just not with the Marlins...and Jacobs will be fine!
May 26, 200620 yr I like to stir the pot sometimes.... http://nysportsday.com/themofo/showthread....4141#post614141
May 26, 200620 yr No doubt. Alex Gonzalez and Mike Lowell were the best defensive SS/3B combo in the league, and now we have the best hitting combo in Ramirez and Cabrera.
