screw that he hit a HR today :whistle

Not really an exageration. More of a spotlight on the fact that the quality of catchers has declined alot in recent years.

Olivo is not starter quality. 27 years old, 4th team in 5 seasons. Not good defensively.

:lol

How come Girardi insists upon having a .220 hitter in the 3rd spot?

Any more questions?

:plain

Not sure what you are laughing at Shamrock. Point out something that says Olivo is starter quality. Because he's not.

Will you please stop it with the "he's not good defensively" stuff. And if your gonna stick with it......DEFEND THAT STATEMENT.

Of catchers that have started at least 30 games...

tied for 1st in errors with 4, 3rd in past balls, lowest fielding %, average range, average at throwing out baserunners.

He is not good defensively. On his best day, he's average.

the fact that someone used fake stats and then you backed him up with a "ownage"... yea I think the idiot line was suited perfectly.

wow Mike Jacobs had a nice night at the plate. He is still hitting .225 or so

good thing I never said that...what's laughable are your comments saying he's terrible.

nice job of using 30 on and off games in 2006 as his actual ability. god, now I remember why I left. this place would be a million times (no exaggeration) better without your crap.

Some stats on Olivo...

in only 264 innings...Olivo has thrown out 10 runners (only Paulino & Matheny have thrown out more (11)).

Olivo also has 22 assists, only LoDuca has more (24).

Also, the stats I see have him with only two passed balls.

I wouldn't say he is below average defensively.

No it wasn't.

there was no need for the idiot comments as stated before, we are marlins fans here and were here to back each other up. i applaud him for being positive.

Marlins played great today and they will continue to if they keep playing like this.

I have no problem with him being positive but he made up a stat to prove a point.

I just think we can do much better than Olivo. I am sorry, but we can. He likely wont be here next year.

we have nobody even close to replacing him in our system and we arn't going to sign an expensive player through free agency. If we can do much better, where will this player come from?

When we are ready to be a good team we will need a good catcher. Olivo is not one.

Unless you think that Olivo is good enough to be a starting catcher at the MLB level(you said the same thing about Gathright too)

I just think we can do much better than Olivo. I am sorry, but we can. He likely wont be here next year.

You have every right to say that we can do much better than Olivo. But please stop making statements that he is a below average defender (and you have done so many times in the past). Maybe your right that he wont be here next year and you may be right that he wont be our catcher when we are a contender but to call him a poor defender is no different than saying Hermida has poor plate discipline.

olivo could be an average major league catcher...I dont think we'll need anything more than an average catcher to be a good team as we'll likely have above average offense from ss, 2b, lf, rf, and 3b. I do think if we trade dtrain we should get a catcher in return, though. Saying he sucks is stupid though, and you've said he's terrible.

gathright could be an average major league centerfielder

you brought gathright up in your post.

what are we disagreeeing about? do we need a good catcher to be a good team? or that olivo has no chance to be a good catcher, and is in fact, garbage?

A good catcher is needed to be a good team IMO. And Olivo is on his best day, average. We need a better catcher than that. So yes.

All i reamber is Olivo smacking it out agianst pedro :whistle
