Posted September 23, 200321 yr It looks like TJ has Urbina as our new closer. He came in in a save situation and did as well as anybody could have, and certainly Looper. Chad Fox was the set-up man today instead of Urbina, and that worked out pretty good. I am excited about our chances of succeeding in the postseason with these new bullpen roles!
September 23, 200321 yr I wouldn't mind Fox as our closer next year if he can pitch like this. yeah, all that matters are results. if he can handle it than why not?
September 23, 200321 yr Every time Jack pulls the trigger on one of these moves, and The Fish win, it furthers his ability within the clubhouse to drive these guys to the finish line.  Luis hitting in the 1 spot, flipping him with Pierre, Fox and Urbina closing out the game (I thought it was very illiminating that he was going to do this the other night but never got the chance), as much as the local media has tried to downplay his role, its Jack driving the bus. Urbina just looks ferocious. I hear when he's not on the mound he's very mild-mannered. Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. It takes alot of guts by the FO to make the change at the helm, and then with virtually no money they go out and get Urbina (yeah, yeah I know, the prospects...) and Fox and Harris and Helling. We are d*mn lucky to have the current group running this team. H*ll, we're d*mn lucky to have a team. I unabashedly admit it. I'm on Jack's bus. If he starts Hollandsworth at third tomorrow night I say "Jack, you the man". He's brought us this far, he's knows the players better than anyone else, and he's a man with a dream.

September 23, 200321 yr but he walks alot of ppl. Go find his stats in Florida, then come talk to me.
September 23, 200321 yr Go find his stats in Florida, then come talk to me. 13 bb in 21 inn is alot bud. he had 19 in 18 in w/ boston to.  he improve but it still isnt tha t good.

September 23, 200321 yr I'm not sure if this role is permanent. It could be just for the Brave series. Regardless, I like the fact that Fox was setup, and Urbina closed. Â Also, I called it yesterday that this is what would happened.
September 23, 200321 yr the moves are always great in victories.....  crap in losses.  Luckily we've had more of the former than the latter :thumbup
September 23, 200321 yr i wouldnt be shocked if this move wasnt just for the Braves, Loop much like robby nen just cant get ATL hitters out as a marlin. either way our late inning crew is miles ahead of ::gasp:: opening day.
September 23, 200321 yr Yes! I think Mckeon read my Sig..... It was about time he wanted to win and not lose with Loop being the closer. Finally some common sense. If urbina was the best closer in the AL and is trustworthy why not put him with Braden Struggling in this Hunt for the playoffs.
September 23, 200321 yr my guess is that he let Urbina close the game out instead of Loop because he knows how inconsistent Loop is on the road. Wouldnt be suprised to see Loop back at the closer this series at the Pro.
September 23, 200321 yr Wouldnt be suprised to see Loop back at the closer this series at the Pro. I hope not....we cant afford another Blown Save from now on. Specially against the Phillies.
September 23, 200321 yr I hope to see Braden get another chance at home tonight if the game is a save situation. I have faith in him still.
September 23, 200321 yr Looper is the closer. I would be shocked if he has been put on the shelf now. That would contradict everything this team is about. We have a team, guys who do their jobs, know their roles, and get it done. Taking Loop out of his and putting someone else in his just messes with things. I too am tempted to have UU as our closer, but Loop is already getting the job done. Sure, he blew a save against the Phils, but that had more to do with the weather it seems than just his own mistakes. Give Loop the ball, you cant go wrong with trusting those who have gotten you here. It is called faith, it is called guts. This team has it. This team believes. It transcends those on the outside.
September 23, 200321 yr Ugueth Urbina pitched a perfect ninth tonight to get the save against the Braves. Considering that both of Braden Looper's recent poor outings came against Atlanta, picking Urbina over him tonight was probably a good move. Looper shouldn't lose his because job of two bad appearances, but since this is the final week of the season and the Marlins are in the race, manager Jack McKeon isn't going to worry about who deserves what and how players feel when he makes his moves. September 23, 200321 yr That is precisely why Loop keeps the closer job and vindicates himself. Watch...
