Top 10 College Stadiums

Featured Replies

1. Neyland Stadium: Tennessee has a great game day setup, thanks in part to the Volunteer Navy and a 100,000-person sea of orange.

2. Notre Dame Stadium: The place reeks of tradition, and the sight of Touchdown Jesus would give even the biggest cynic goose bumps.

3. Rose Bowl: I know UCLA rarely sells this place out, but I'm focusing mainly on the picturesque setting -- with the stadium nestled into the Arroyo Seco against the backdrop of the San Gabriel Mountains -- and all the magical moments that have happened here.

4. Ohio Stadium: Ohio State's Horseshoe gets extra points for the dotting of the "i".

5. Husky Stadium: U-Dub has really struggled lately, but when Washington was a top-20 program, there might not have been a louder place in the country. It is also very scenic; you can watch from behind the end zone as the boats drift in Lake Washington.

6. Michie Stadium: Even if Army never gets back in the top 20, this charming spot in the Hudson Valley is must-see territory for every serious college fan.

7. Lane Stadium:Loud and nasty. Come see the Hokies and you might get sick of hearing "Enter Sandman" or the turkey calls, but the place sizzles. I think this is one of the more underrated places in the country, although I'd probably feel more strongly about that had Miami not gone in there on a Saturday night in 2005 and whupped the Hokies.

8. Michigan Stadium: If the Michigan crowd were louder, the Big House would be much higher on the list.

9. Florida Field: The building itself isn't anything too special, but the noise factor in The Swamp is.

10. Memorial Stadium: The thing that jumps out at you in Nebraska's home is that you won't find a more gracious bunch than the Huskers fans.

LOL. Leave it up to Bruce Feldman.

I think Ben Hill(Florida field) should be higher then 9. Has he seen the stadium since the '03 additions.

When I went to the Florida @Tenn game in 04, Neyland stadium wasn't as impressive as it's reputation. Sound and in Appearance .

It seems like he just compiled this together arbitrarily.

The Rose Bowl is tight (I was there for the UM-Nebaska title game), but I wouldn't put it as high as Mr. Feldman did. I mean I thought it was a fun place to watch a game but at the same time felt it was kind of overrated for all the hype it got.

even though I hate the gators florida field is dang nice for a stadium.

absolutely beautiful when I went to visit the unniversity a few times and all :)

If we are going by tradition here, the Orange Bowl is up there. But eh I can't find anything too wrong with the list. Just seems like there was no rhyme or reason to the order.

The subject is best stadiums. I'm only ranking the ones I've actually been to, which omits Texas A&M's Kyle Field and both Alabama's Bryant-Denny and Auburn's Jordan-Hare.

Then why is he making this article.

I thought that Alabama's Field and stands area were pretty nice. Everything else wasing so great. They only had hot dogs, hambugers and nachos. No selction like all other stadiums plus the facts that they don't know what KETCHUP is, none in the whole stadium.

I don't know a stadium I've been where they offer MORE than that (maye some candy), well at least with ketchup.

That being said, concessions has little to do with the stadium experience in my mind. That'd be like complaining about the pro shop not having enough merchandise.

It's part of the stadium. If I can get something at then stadium then it is part of my experience. Stadiums usually have pizza, pretzels and stuff like that.

Anyway I just thought it was wierd.

Oh come on, the Gators' stadium is identical to Doak Campbell!

This is about as incorrect as you could possibly be.

This is about as incorrect as you could possibly be. Yeah. Doak Campbell has nothing on the Swamp. Or the Orange Bowl for that matter.

Ben Hill Griffin Stadium is a real nice stadium. I've only been there once. I've only been to mostly SEC schools, but I agree with Neyland Stadium. Huge ass stadium with an awesome Vol Navy scene on the Tennessee River. Only downside is assloads of trashy fans.

I prefer Bryant Denny (Alabama) and Sanford Stadium (UGA) over Neyland Stadium though. I'd probably go UGA, Alabama, then UT.

There really is nothing like "between the hedges". Athens is an insane college town, with a great mix of loud, rowdy, stereotypical college football fans from the South with classy alum in dress pants and ties. Throw in a pretty great Greek section also dorned in ties and sundresses and the odor of bourbon and boiled peanuts in the air, and you have an awesome stadium.

Plus, Athens' downtown bar scene is incredible for post-game and Friday night pre-game. General Beauregard's, Bourbon Street, Roadhouse, etc.....You've gotta try it.

Yes, Athens is very cool. I just spent a night there, never went to a football game between the hedges though. From my experience UGA fans aren't the best in the world, but that's because they're very bitter towards UF (for obvious reasons)...plus my experiences have all occurred in Jacksonville, and that is a whole different breed of UGA fans.

Bryant-Denny was awesome. Just everything about it. Definitely the best tailgating and overall gameday experience outside of Gainesville. Although the Gators got absolutely destroyed (31-3) there were still many positives from that trip. 'Bama has great fans.

I think Knoxville is a beautiful town, very scenic, but the nightlife isn't the same as a Tuscaloosa or a Gainesville. Neyland is almost overwhelming when you're approaching it, due to its massive size. I felt the crowd could have been louder, but hey, not everyone fanbase can be like the University of Florida's.

I've been to a handful of college football stadiums: Ohio Stadium, Kyle Field, Michigan Stadium, The Metrodome, Wallace Wade Stadium, Carter-Finley Stadium, and Jones SBC Stadium.

I'll rank these, only because I've been to these:

1. Ohio Stadium (Ohio State)

2. Kyle Field (Texas A&M)

3. Michigan Stadium (Michigan)

4. Carter-Finley Stadium (N.C State)

5. Jones SBC Stadium (Texas Tech)

6. Wallace Wade Stadium (Duke)

7. The Metrodome (Minnesota)

Oh please. I've been to the Orange Bowl plenty of times before, and that place is a dump. I have no idea why they keep it around. One day the stands are going to collapse, and they'll finally close it because of that.

The Orange Bowl has a great view of Downtown Miami. It's old sure. But the mystique of the stadium more than makes up for it. I've had plenty an enjoyable game there. Even if it was 100 degrees out.
