June 19, 200620 yr At first I didn't care for Waltz because I thought he made way too many mistakes but I have grown to like him. He's far and away the most honest among all of the So Fla team employee announcers and I appreciate that. The only thing I find annoying is how he calls everyone a kid, even guys in their 30s.
June 19, 200620 yr Here's one Waltz-ism I find particularly annoying. Batter comes to the plate. Ball one. Ball two. Waltz: "And all of the sudden Willis can't throw strikes!" Really? Can't throw strikes? After two pitches? All of the sudden? :bangdesk I will say that he's gotten a little better, but he's still probably my least favorite of all the play-by-play guys we've had here.
June 19, 200620 yr I can't stand his voice and a lot of times there are awkward pauses or he says things that just don't make any sense, other than that he's decent. It's not that Rich Waltz is bad, but there are just so many others who are far and away better than him at calling games. I think the Devil Rays have the best TV play-by-play man in the game, second only to Vin Scully. Here's one Waltz-ism I find particularly annoying. Batter comes to the plate. Ball one. Ball two. I can't stand his "LOOKIN UP....................." comment anytime a ball is hit even remotely close to the warning track or the wall. And sometimes during a big play instead of calling the play smoothly, he'll say a word and pause, say a word and pause, say a word and pause... it's so annoying and takes a lot of the excitement out of the play. "CABRERA..... ROUND...... THIRD.......... RUNNING...... HARD......... HE.......... WILL......... SCORE.......!!!" :banghead It's like clockwork, he does it anytime there is a big play. It's as if he can't gather his thoughts quick enough or something.

June 19, 200620 yr After Uggla does something good: HIS NAME IS "DAN UGGLA!" That is a funny line. I'm guessing it is because they have probably been asked by other broadcasters how to pronounce his name about 100 times already.
June 19, 200620 yr I always felt len was mediocre; did the job well but nothing great. Joe angel was always my favorite
June 19, 200620 yr bring back boog? That would be awesome. I loved Boog doing the radio games and Im sure he could hack the TV gig too because Ive caught a few of his ESPN games. Boog and Len left the MARLINS not the other way around. I personally dont want them back. This is true but I would still take Boog back. To the Waltz lovers, Rich is at times funny and Im sure he is a really nice guy but have any of you noticed that he knows VERY little about baseball? Dont you think this may be important criteria for being a baseball announcer? :mischief

I think it has more to do with them campaigning to get Uggla some recognition nationally.
