June 23, 200620 yr http://baltimore.orioles.mlb.com/NASApp/ml...t=.jsp&c_id=bal Reliever Todd Williams, who normally throws from the side and not directly over the top, has trouble trying to throw intentional walks. He softly tossed the first pitch of the sequence too close to home plate, and Cabrera alertly swung and hit an RBI single into center field, giving the Marlins the lead. "He has a little trouble with his intentional walks," manager Sam Perlozzo said. "It's something that shouldn't happen." How do you have trouble throwing intential balls?
June 23, 200620 yr I know right. The guy can locate a 90+ mph fastball, but he can't intentionally walk a guy? WHAT!?!?! Doing that should be like... playing catch!
June 23, 200620 yr Well, just lobbing it in there for a sidearmer would be tough. Then throw overhand!
June 23, 200620 yr Some people cant. I never could throw overhand(I never did throw sidearm either). I threw like a boxer throws a punch... arm at a 90 degree angle, forearm parallel with my head, and I just forced the ball forward. Horrible on the arm-espicially the shoulder-, but got good velocity, almost too much for a 2nd baseman(I played 2nd my whole life because there was always someone a year or 2 older playing 3rd). And thats the exact same reason I couldnt throw overhand, I threw like that from a young age by the time I got to highschool I couldnt physicially throw overhand comfortably. Everytime I overthrew the 1st baseman I had to suit up in catchers gear the next day at practice and run suicides while the pitchers used me for target practice. Fun times. Memory lane sucks.
June 23, 200620 yr i was always of the opinion that a team should never have to actually the ball to employ an intentional walk...but with what happened last night, it reminded me why they make em pitch the 4 ball out and why baseball is truly an amazing game...anything can happen and most likely will...awesome game guys and keep up the great work!
June 23, 200620 yr If this is the case, the catcher needs to setup ridiculously far away He has to start in the catchers box or else it's a balk so he can only go out as far as the pitcher throws the ball.
June 23, 200620 yr I can't throw over-hand either. It's kind of in the middle of overhand and side-arm how I throw.
June 23, 200620 yr A lot of pitchers have trouble throwing IBB. This is usually due to forced adjustment. They are used to throwing hard during the game at a specific target. IBB is a dramatic change (as is a throw to first at times). It seems like you always see pitchers almost throw a ball to the backstop while trying to walk a guy. thats why they should just throw BP fastballs on the IBB. not difficult. its more a matter of laziness more than anything.
June 24, 200619 yr Its a soft pitch. So your control should be almost perfect. Just point where you are throwing and threow a softer. There are no rule on how you should throw it so there are no excuse. That was plain laziness frokm that pitcher and he should be emberess!
