July 10, 200620 yr Sergio Mitre, SP FLA News: Sergio Mitre (shoulder) has stepped up his rehab program but won't be ready until at least August. "I don't even think you can look at early August," Girardi told MLB.com. Pain during throwing only recently has subsided and he will need a lengthy rehab program once he finally gets on a mound again.
July 10, 200620 yr Who cares...he won't be a Marlin for long anyway i wish any guy that wore the teal short of ramon castro good health, but yeah...i might even go so far to say we will see him throw as many innings in the future as spooneybarger threw in the past
July 10, 200620 yr Author Whats all the hate on Mirte for? Yea he aint CY Young but sh*t he isnt that bad...
July 10, 200620 yr Whats all the hate on Mirte for? Yea he aint CY Young but sh*t he isnt that bad... he isnt that good either...not as good as any one of the million pitching prospects that he would be taking PT from
July 10, 200620 yr Prospects like petit, snchez, and nolasco. Many of them are better off fine tuning in the minors than getting shelled in the majors. Eventually they will take mitres spot most likely, but in the meantime once hes healthy its good to have him to eat up innings
July 10, 200620 yr He can take as long as he likes. What I saw of him this season (and previous seasons with Cubs) makes me think this guy is a 5th starter at best. I'd rather have a rotation spot for one of the younger kids.
July 10, 200620 yr He doesnt eat innings either. He more often than not gives you 5 extremely mediocre inning.
July 10, 200620 yr Mitre could have a role on this team. Looking to the future there are a number of ways he could be on this team. Probably not as a stater but as a long reliever. Next year our rotation will be something like: Willis, Olsen, Johnson, Nolasco, Sanchez, maybe Petit or Vargas. Assuming these guys are big leaguers, put 2 of them in the bullpen. Then of the final 5 spots, there are three locks(as of know): Messenger, Kensing, Tank. The final two spots can go to any of the following: Resop, Pinto, Jose Garica,Mitre, Bowyer, maybe even Trevor Hutchinson. Mitre could fill the role of long relief/ spot starter. This is all assuming there are no injuries, trades, or player breakdowns, which are all bound to happen. Mitre has good stuff, and he has the problem of giving up big innings. If he could solve that, he wouldn't be that bad.
July 10, 200620 yr Well if its mid august, it may as well be september as then they won't have to make a roster move. Of course they will have to have a spot open on the 40 man for him. I know Mitre isn't popular here, but he still has a decent fastball and could make a good relief pitcher. Going into spring training, how many people here thought that Logan Kensing or Randy Messenger had any value?

Me. but olivo sucks right? lol...i liked logan and randy(wasnt a huge fan) but i did believe in them...i just never thought of logan as a set up guy...and i thought randy needed to learn some control...which he apparently has done...i love these guys in the pen...and our team is only gonna get stronger
July 11, 200620 yr Oh you're so right! There is no way that Mitre should even be considered for a spot on the Marlins staff. He's just awful. Johnson IP 85 ERA 2.21 | WHIP 1.27 Willis IP 123 ERA 3.94 | WHIP 1.41 Olsen IP 91 ERA 4.24 | WHIP 1.26 Mitre IP 35 ERA 4.89 | WHIP 1.49 Nolasco IP 72 ERA 5.00 | WHIP 1.46 Moehler IP 77 ERA 6.84 | WHIP 1.75 Sanchez IP 15 ERA 6.60 | WHIP 1.87 Petit IP 17 ERA 7.41 | WHIP 1.71
July 11, 200620 yr He is averaging 5 IP/start. High WHIP. He hasnt been anything besides AWFUL at home. He is not part of the Marlins future plans. He was hammered in limited appearances in May. So, he's not an innings eater and is extremely hittable...why should he come back to the rotation?
July 11, 200620 yr Why is he not part of the Marlins future plans? It's not like he is an aging vet like Moehler... He is still relatively young He is averaging 5 IP/start. High WHIP. He has 35 innings in 7 starts, but in one of those starts he threw all of 3 pitches, so he is almost averaging 6 innings a start :thumbup

Let's give him a 100 innings first before we're ready to throw in the towel on this guy.
