October 21, 200619 yr Oh man, I couldn't stand his voice. It took me like half an hour to get used to it. Anyhow, I really enjoyed the movie. It was suspenseful even with the clues they gave throughout. It definitely was disoriented but once you get the hang of the movie, it's pretty simple to make sense of. I just love clever movies when there's a bunch of little things throughout the film that you don't really think much of and then you find out at the end that they fit with what's really going on. I'd recommend it. It's fun and the cast is great.

October 22, 200619 yr EDIT: I originally wrote 9/10 because I felt I had already given out too many 10/10's this year (The Departed, V for Vendetta), but that seems silly to me. 10/10. Fantastic. Nolan hits a home run again.

October 30, 200619 yr Saw it today, very well done film. The twists and turns are exactly what more movies need to have. The science-fiction aspect was very intriguing, and unexpected.

I liked the Prestige better - it was more visually entertaining - my wife like the Illusionist better - she liked the love story better. All I can tell you is that you need to understand that when you leave the theater you will not like either character and will think they were both mentally screwed up! I have a question for those who HAVE seen it: Does the original or the replica stay in place? If it is the original, then who is getting droped into the tank every night? If it is the replica, then the original died in the first attempt. It doesn't make any sense!
November 1, 200619 yr The original is the one who drops into the tank, the replica appears in the second level of the theater. He has no idea what he's really doing to himself, though. He believes drowning is "like going home" when in reality it's terrifying. However, the replica has no idea that it's really as bad, and will have it happen to him the next night.

I'm almost positive that was the first time Tesla built the machine. Bale never used it from what I can remember, and I think you can trace the twin back to before even Jackman's wife died.
November 2, 200619 yr I believe they were twins and thats why he can never say which noose he used. Overall a great film, I just didnt like the idea of the cloning machine, they could have come up with something more realistic and more clever IMO.

It's a thriller and without the machine I don't see any original way to continue the story and stay true to the book while keeping the surprising elements.
