July 18, 200620 yr Average .276, slugging .614, hit safely 29 of his last 38 games, has 18 home runs. Since May 28: .313 six doubles, 11 home runs, 23 runs and 24 RBIs. He's also hit 2 home runs tonight.
July 18, 200620 yr wish we wouldn't of given him up..but ugie urbina really helped in the playoff run of 2003.
July 18, 200620 yr wish we wouldn't of given him up..but ugie urbina really helped in the playoff run of 2003. it was either him or stokes. we rated stokes higher from all indications. too bad for the injuries.

Stokes hit 2 homers last night too and is healthy now! :shifty If we deal Helms at the break, I'd love to see him get a chance. I think he hit like .360 in the spring.
July 18, 200620 yr 10 times out of 10, you make that trade...no regrets. I agree with you...if you know the outcome. Ask Red Sox fans if they regret trading Jeff Bagwell for a much needed arm during a post-season run. You have to win to have "no regrets." By the way, do you think we could have traded Stokes for Uggie?? If that is the case, then perhaps we should regret (a little bit) trading Adrian Gonz. We might have been able to get Lastings Milledge and Petit for Delgado instead of Jacobs (not saying I don't like Jacobs...I do...I'm just staying we'd have solved our CF problem). Then, perhaps our team might be a little more balanced at the moment.
July 19, 200620 yr Jacobs is better than Gonzalez offensively but defensively Gonzalez is way better than Jake. But I personally would take Jake's offense over Adrians defense.

July 19, 200620 yr Author Jacobs is better than Gonzalez offensively but defensively Gonzalez is way better than Jake. But I personally would take Jake's offense over Adrians defense. Jacobs: .287 AVG, .356 OBP, .521 SLG, .877 OPS, 13 HR Gonzalez: .281 AVG, .320 OBP, .500 SLG, .824 OPS, 18 HR They're pretty damn close. And while we're on the topic of Jacobs and Gonzalez, I wonder if they know each other. They're both from Chula Vista. Which is where I go to school, believe it or not.

I know I may sound like a broken record, but OPS is really the most important stat for a power hitter. And Jacobs' OPS is 53 points higher. Jacobs>Gonzalez.
July 19, 200620 yr They both play their home games in ballparks that are borderline abusive to left-handed hitters. I think it's incredible what they're both doing, and I wouldn't be ashamed to have either on my team. However unpopular this may be, I don't think either are true 'corner-stones,' though.

If what I think you're saying is true, I'll agree with you. Neither one is a player to base a team around. But they're both solid ballplayers offensivly and defensivly. They both bring a lot to their respective teams.
July 19, 200620 yr Gonzalez is almost two years younger than Jacobs. If I was San Diego, I'd be happy to have him. I like Jacobs a lot. If you throw out his early troubles at the plate, his offensive numbers are not just good - they are great. But, you can say the same thing about Gonzalez too. Gonzalez also does not have Miguel Cabrera hitting behind him.
July 19, 200620 yr Author No, it's just Khalil Greene that is hitting behind him. Who has a .908 OPS as the #6 batter.
July 19, 200620 yr I'd rather have Jacobs anyway. Lefty with pop, can't find that too easily. Adrian Gonzalez is a lefty with more home runs than Jacobs. No, it's just Khalil Greene that is hitting behind him. Who has a .908 OPS as the #6 batter. I know you're not comparing Khalil Greene to Miggy, right?? I mean, I'm not even going to justify this with an answer...other than to say that Miggy has a higher OPS than Greene.
