July 20, 200619 yr I havent been this psyched to see a movie since Episode III. With that said, I dont know much about it except one of my favorite directors, Michael Mann (Heat and Collateral) and the co-stars. Things I do know: Obviously Ricardo Tubbs and James "Sonny" Crockett are back. In addition, Lt.Castillo and Det. Switek return. There are no signs of "Izzy" at this time. That sucks bigtime. Anyone heard any rumblings about it? Thanks. :jackson
July 20, 200619 yr I saw the HBO making of Miami vice special. The whole movie is action packed It reminds me a lot of the bad boys series. I have never been more hyped up for a movie
July 20, 200619 yr The fact that it's just another cop movie doesn't do much for me. I mean, it's basically Heat or SWAT with the name Miami Vice name. If they could have found a way to set it in the eighties and include the other elements of the show, I'd be a little more amped.

July 20, 200619 yr Foxx, Farrell, Drugs, Sex, Beaches, Boats - this should make a decent amount at the box office. I read a few reviews that were absolutely brutal, but I might give it a shot.

If they could have found a way to set it in the eighties and include the other elements of the show, I'd be a little more amped. Have you seen the film? I've seen the trailer. Looked just like the movies I named. It didn't do anything for me. How is seeing the film relevant with what I've just said? I said it wasn't set in the eighties and it was a typical cop movie, BOTH are obvious from the trailer. It's Bad Boys with Colin Ferrell and Jamie Foxx. Until it comes out to critical, directorial, writing praise, maybe even an Oscar nod, then MAYBE I'll see it. It just didn't look that good. Looked like a retread of Bad Boys and SWAT to me. So, let me ask YOU a question: Have you seen the film? You haven't, so a dumb question like that isn't relevant. I've SEEN the trailer, just like you. And it looked like a rip off of every other serious cop movie I've ever seen. I'll say it again because I feel like it, Heat meets Bad Boys meets SWAT meets Tango and Cash. There I said it. I feel better.
July 20, 200619 yr Author How is seeing the movie relevant to what you said? You said it was "Heat or Swat with the Miami Vice name". But you didnt see the film. You just gave the thumbs down to a movie you did not see. Congratulations.

You just gave the thumbs down to a movie you did not see. Congratulations. From the trailer. Basically, from the trailer, it didn't look like anything special. And everything I mentioned as being a part of Miami Vice but NOT in the movie, I mentioned, aren't in the trailer. RELEVANCE. But, I know it's hard for the horny to take any criticism.
July 20, 200619 yr You are pretty talented to already review a movie not yet released, and base your opinion on a smattering of clips played along with catchy music over the span of 2-3 minutes and know what movies it is like and that it is bad. You need to write a book or have a daily newspaper column, a talent like this doesn't need to be buried in the depths of this message board.

You need to write a book or have a daily newspaper column, a talent like this doesn't need to be buried in the depths of this message board. You're pretty talented to be so horny over the same movie for the same reasons. It works both ways you big hypocrite. If you didn't already own 70% of this messageboard I'd tell you the same thing. IT'S THE PASSION SHOW! STARRING PASSION! You're always right. Even when you speak about yourself. "OH MY GOD! THAT MOVIE LOOKS SO GOOD BASED ON THAT TRAILER! Must see, must speak against anyone who doesn't like it. Must see." I just said it didn't look that good and based on the trailer I wasn't seeing it. Who said I had to see every movie. I mean, if I'm going to see movies, I might as well only watch ones that appeal to me. Unless there's some law where everyone has to see and like the same things? Or only good movies. If that's the case I'll jump in my time machine and see Brokeback Mountain, Lord of the Rings, King Kong and the Crying Game. Give me a break.
July 20, 200619 yr Amazing how you say I stated my opinion on the movie in here when I didn't. I didn't criticize you for not wanting to see the movie I just think it's nuts you already know what the movie is like yada yada yada. Why are you e-screaming and having a hissy fit?

I didn't criticize you for not wanting to see the movie I just think it's nuts you already know what the movie is like yada yada yada. Why are you e-screaming and having a hissy fit? I have no idea what an e-scream is. That being said, you've stated in other places you "can't wait for this movie," if memory serves correctly. That and you felt the need to criticize me not wanting to see this movie when I was merely stating my opinion. Trailers are MERELY commercials for the movie and based on said commercials I don't want to see Miami Vice for the above reasons. It'd be like a McDondalds commercial for them selling poop on their dollar value menu. I'm not going to jump in my car and run, not walk, to McDondalds to go get it, because it doesn't appeal to me.
July 20, 200619 yr I never criticized you for not wanting to see the movie. Where did I do this? I honestly don't care either way. (FYI an e-scream is that little emo moment you had with the caps lock on a post or two above)
July 20, 200619 yr Author I would like to issue a formal apology to Buckeye for being psyched about the upcoming Michael Mann film, "Miami Vice". I promise not to launch any positive, friendly banter threads in the future. To even suggest that it may be a good film based on the the directors past efforts (Heat and Collateral) was complete blasphemy on my part and I ensure all of you it will never hapen again.
July 21, 200619 yr I wouldn't compare Bad Boys to this upcoming Miami Vice movie. From the looks of the trailer it appears to be a serious cop drama instead of a comedy that Bad Boys was. About the reviews being on the negative it is mostly due to how long this production took to complete this film.

If Michael's Mann's directing past and the TV series itself are any indication, the movie looks to be much different than a Bad Boys type film.
July 23, 200619 yr Author I read somewhere (i think it was Entertainment) that Michael Mann banned the color red entirely from the set of Miami Vice. It also stated that Colin Ferrel busted a rib early on in the shooting because he was lifting weights like crazy to bulk up for the role.
July 24, 200619 yr Miami Vice really remains in name only. Colin Farrell and Jaime Foxx happen to be called Crockett and Tubbs, but that’s it. Michael Mann, who served as one of the driving forces behind the original wildly fluorescent Television series, jettisons everything else in favor of his unique directorial hallmarks. It pays off. Not only is Miami Vice a great film, it’s one of the best examples we as moviegoers have to watch a skilled force like Mann using his talents to push his own signature styles from film to film. I feel that Vice is a great extension from Heat to Ali to this – each one informing the other. Just make sure you venture to the theatre to see it – it’s aesthetically progressive and is peppered with great scenes throughout. http://www.chud.com/index.php?type=interviews&id=7171
July 24, 200619 yr I'll wait till it comes out in DVD.... I just can't see C.F. as Sunny and i think they should have gone wth someone else.. J. Foxx as crockett i could probably live with but not enough to go see at the the movies.....
July 24, 200619 yr Author thanks for posting that passion. I could be wrong but I disagree slightly with the writer. I do think the show and the movie will share more than just the name, Miami Vice. The movie is directed by Mann, set in Miami and deals with the same undercover narcotics unit so there will be similarities. But maybe im just hoping. I'll wait till it comes out in DVD.... I just can't see C.F. as Sunny and i think they should have gone wth someone else.. J. Foxx as crockett i could probably live with but not enough to go see at the the movies..... Im sure you mean J. Foxx as Tubbs. I can relate a little to your feeling that C.F. may have been a strange casting for Crockett. We'll see how it works out after it comes out. At least its not Keanu Reeves.
July 25, 200619 yr This past weekend I was watching the sleuth channel and it was fun watching the Miami Vice marathon. It brought back some great memories when I was in the service and we finally got a chance to watch the series after someone would tape it for us so we could see what was going on with the show. My favorite one was when Crockett lost his memory and he played a bad guy. The one with Ted Nugent was a great one. I also enjoyed the very last show where Crockett and Tubbs defied the Feds by destroying a sea plane carrying some dictator who was heading back to his country after Crockett and Tubbs had fought hard to get him in the states.
July 25, 200619 yr Miami Herald has a story about the movie premiering tonight on South Beach and some more 411 on the actual film LINK
