Could you date/marry someone politically opposite?

Featured Replies

Thought Id extend this from Fritz's thread of family members. I have a friend who is so conservative that we call him the Patriot Act. He loves dating liberal women for some reason. I think it has something to do with how passionate things can get. Personally Im not sure I could avoid letting it get personal.

My gf is liberal, but she isnt as into politics as I am, so although we clash at times on views, for the most part we dont talk much politics. A good example is The ragin cajun and his wife mary matalin, different political views yet theyre married

yes, my world and personal view is not so narrow that i must surround myself with a spouse who must follow or agree with my ideology . If you cant seperate politics from an individual's personality and character you will miss out on meeting alot of wonderfull people . Besides who wants to live in an echo chamber ?

my ex-fiancee was the grand-daughter of a republican senator. She was more right wing then Accord is. Really it doesnt matter when you are with someone, if you are dating them you either make amends to agree to disagree or dont speak of it.

Just remember all you young Jedi's out there.

You date girls/women because they are hot. We all agree on that.

But dont get married to a woman JUST because she's hot.

Not unless you like divorces and alimony.

I've only dated liberal girls. Two of them were really feminist and that bothered me much more than their politics did. I've learned to deal with the fact that I'm not going to find someone with politics like mine.

I can, but I'm a pretty flexible dude. If someone was extremely one way or the other, I'd probably be irritated frequently, but if she's hot, so be it. It's more important that she shares her love of the Dolphins that politics. If she dislikes the Fins or likes one of the rivals of the Fins, things won't work out.

I have, and it's been fine. But if I dated someone who was both an extremist and an activist it might be a problem.

Her: "I hate Bush"

Me: "So do I, he's such a fascist and is destroying this country! So... wanna go see a movie?"

Women of a certain ideological bent are more likely to put out than those of the opposite ideological bent. The latter want to make sure that they get that ring before they'll do that thing.

Just telling it how I see it.

They were feminists? Well isn't that cute?
