Breaking News on Comcast Philly Sportsnet:

Pat Gillick about to make some sorta announcement

David Bell traded to Milwaukee for a pitcher Lafredo Liriano

Abraham Nunez expected to play 3rd

Wow, and the pieces continue to fall.

The Phillies need to be revamped. That team is finished. Problem is, they don't have the talent we had this last offseason to trade for prospects.

Either Abreu or Burrell will probably be gone after this season if ABreu isnt gone by trade deadline

Always nice to see a team in our division lose a little bit of firepower.

Anyone know much about this Liriano guy? Any relation to Francisco?

that's actually addition by subtraction.....

It's Wilfredo Laureano and he's a big releif pitcher in A ball, he's 22.

Bell has a nice glove and hits lefties well, helps us out cuz he is one less person to worry about.

you mean someone out there was actually worried about him???

hes not a wrecking ball or anything but he is a pest, and does get some key base hits that have hurt us in the past.

Last time people worried about Bell was 2002 or 2003

Bell was considered the very worst every day player last year at his position. Worse than even Mike Lowell.

i think this move really hurts the marlins, i cant ever remember bell doing anything against the marlins...i also really miss millwood...it was fun watching the marlins beat him for so long

What? The Phillies are remodeling with the expectation of competing next year, they're not blowing up their team. They dumped Bell, as a quick salary dump and getting a sack of sh*t off the team. The way they're moving, they'll have a core group of young players who will be their years to come, a few solid players picked up in deals, a new core of prospects, and plenty of new cash to fill in the edges.

If anything the Phillies will be better off next year, then they were this year, when they were cash-committed to various underperforming players.

You get to remake a team around Chase Utley, Ryan Howard, and Cole Hamels, and you now have deep pockets.

I'd love to see how this qualifies a deam as "finished", but when you're looking for them to be, you'll find ways.
