August 1, 200620 yr Sources also said the Philadelphia Phillies asked for Ichiro in any deal with the Mariners involving outfielder Bobby Abreu, who was later traded to the New Yank Yankees for several marginal players. http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/spor...arinotes01.html
August 1, 200620 yr I guess the Phillies were smoking some phillies :lol Semi-off-topic: The Mariners would be better served batting Ichiro 3rd.

I don't know about that...it's such a demoralizing thing if he gets on early, steals 2nd, bunted over to 3rd and scores on the next play. You really gotta get him out in order to force Seattle to manufacture other runs.
August 1, 200620 yr I guess the Phillies were smoking some phillies :lol Semi-off-topic: The Mariners would be better served batting Ichiro 3rd. this debate has been going on for awhile i think the M's are better served with Ichiro setting the table and getting as many ABs as possible
August 1, 200620 yr haha stupid philly blunts I guess the Phillies were smoking some phillies :lol Semi-off-topic: The Mariners would be better served batting Ichiro 3rd. this debate has been going on for awhile i think the M's are better served with Ichiro setting the table and getting as many ABs as possible Well even though I agree with you I would like to see them play him in the 2 hole at least; Yuniesky Betancourt has been batting over 300 this season, and even though I don't know if he will be that good for the remainder of his career, they could try hitting him lead off, then ichiro, then someone else. He still gets a lot of ABs while getting more chances of driving runs in.
August 1, 200620 yr So to get Abreu the Mariners have to give up their star player, but New York has to give up nothing to get him.
August 1, 200620 yr So to get Abreu the Mariners have to give up their star player, but New York has to give up nothing to get him. Perhaps the M's wouldn't have had to pickup as much of his salary then the Yanks?
August 1, 200620 yr I guess the Phillies were smoking some phillies :lol And double :lol at that trade proposition
August 1, 200620 yr I'd have never given Ichiro up, he's the best. it's kinda like asking the yanks for jeter and posada
August 1, 200620 yr Ichiro straight up for Abreu? :lol Im sure the Seattle FO got a kick out of that prop.
August 2, 200620 yr Ya its a fun debate. Ichrio could do both easily...but its probably more to their advantage to bat him first. Who else would handle that job anyway?
