Reports: Marlins owner, Girardi had 'heated discussion'

1st off, I want to say that I don't like Girardi very much as a manager.

When we started 11-31, I said on the boards that we should fire him. I think he gets too much credit because he was "in the Yankees organization". Don't get me wrong, he's done a good job, but our record is an indication of our great GM Admin Beinfest and our great scouts....not Joe Girardi.

I think he's a control freak. He doesn't let our players have facial hair. He doesn't like celebrations from players. And now he tells his boss to be quiet?!?!

Not to mention, while under contract with the Marlins, he tells the press that the Chicago Cubs managing position is his "dream job"??? This guy doesn't bleed teal like we do and like McKeon and Leyland did! This guy is using us as a stepping stone to get back to New York!

I just don't like this guy.....I've always liked Fredi Gonzalez (2 time minor league manager of the year and Latino influence) as a better option. It's not too late to get him!

I agree with you on that,i wanted Fredi all along. But i have no problem with Girardi.

My sentiments exactly. Although, I could care less about the facial hair thing. Nevertheless, Girardi isn't going anywhere though.

Leyland bleeds teal?!?! He came in to manage a team bought to win a championship and then bailed when the team was taken apart. Leyland. Bahahaha.

It's nice to hear Girardi say that his heart is in South Florida, and that he sold his house in Chicago to move down here, and that he loves his pool.lol

Anyone would have been pissed that Huizenga sold them off.....you obviously aren't a Marlins fan if you think we "bought" a championship. The 2 stars of the World Series (Renteria and Livan) were home grown players and EVERY TEAM TRIES to buy a championship every year......can't believe a real Marlin fan would make that statement.

that Leyland bleeding teal thing is funny

Leyland LOVED South Florida and wanted to keep the team he had.....how can you blame him for getting mad at Huizenga? Leyland has said over and over....winning the series in Florida was his greatest accomplishment in life.

Leyland is a great manager....look at what he's doing in Detroit. If we kept the 1997 team together, who knows how good they could have been.

Not really sure how Mckeon 'bled' teal either...man has been in baseball for 30+ years and spent 2.75 of those with the Marlins. Sure he won a World Series, but he didn't necessarily 'bleed teal'.

Hell Girardi is doing something right now that McKeon probably wasn't willing to do by coaching a 15 million team.

great... still dont see how he "bled" teal

Point is he likes South Florida.....Girardi would rather be in Chicago or New York.

I'm a 39 year old Marlins fan that watched the expansion draft on ESPN and has been there every since. Matter of fact I watched the very first Portland Sea Dogs game that was televised in our area.....remember that?

Signed November 1996 and later: Alou, Cook, Fernandez, Eisenreich, Bonilla

Signed December 1995: Leiter and Kevin Brown

As compared to 2003 where our bought pieces were Pudge and ???

Nice try though.

edit: I see you were born in 1984. Nothing wrong with that....wish I could say that. This makes sense now. You were 13 years old in 1997....of course you didn't have the feeling it was a bought team. I am not trying to trash a great memory for ya....but ya gotta be realistic. This is why every poll taken in this forum that asks what felt better, 1997 or 2003, 2003 wins by a landslide.

What is this with managers having to bleed the colors of their team anyway? They take the jobs they can get and do the best job with them. How many managers have strong ties to the team they are manging? Does Willie Randolph bleed Met blue, Grady Little Dodger Blue, Joe Maddon Ray green, Dusty Baker Cub blue, you could name 90% of managers who have no connection to their team beside it being their current job.

And I can tell you without a doubt Leyland did not bleed Marlin teal, I knew him somewhat personally when he was here. Sure, he liked living here, so does Girardi, so do a lot of people.

Because Houston is a veteran/proven (2nd half) team led by Roger Clemens and Roy Oswalt

And also was in the WS last season. Until the Marlins prove something, like getting above .500 and getting close to the wildcard, it's not unfair for ESPN to not mention us that much. Personally I like flying under the radar, as I think it helps when we play other teams. They think we stink and we can sneak up on them and bite them in the behind, like we did to the Mets in the last two series with them, and with Toronto a few weeks ago.

No disrespect meant to Leyland or any Leyland fan. He came, he conquered and will forever be a big part of Marlins history.

These men are professionals, and they bleed whatever team is paying them. The minute the $$$ stop flowing from that team, they stop bleeding that teams colors. Its business, not pleasure -- always remember that.

Of course he was a big part of our history, but I was respoding to the post that claimed he bled Marlin teal, like he had some strong connection to the team, beside it being his job to manage the players he had.

Is it true that he has a clause on his contract that his contract could be voided to coach for the cubs?

"People like to speculate that I am going to Chicago. If I was going to Chicago, I wouldn't have sold my house. ... I don't have a house there. I sold my house. My kids are enrolled in school in south Florida. I love jumping in my pool every day. It's a nice life. ... There are no outs. I signed a three-year deal," he said.

I don't really think there is anything Girardi can say to completely quiet the rumors, but this quote is about the best thing he can say. Hopefully this will all die down so the Marlins can concentrate on the Nats, and Girardi can revisit these rumors in the off-season (when Dusty gets canned).

I think its nice that we have a thread like this once in a while so the Girardi Hate Crew (all 5 of them) can get together and blow off steam about how he mismanages his 15 million dollar ballclub that even in August is occasionally mentioned in Wild Card talk.

Girardi has over acheived (just like his ballclub) in his rookie year as manager.

But by all means keep reaching for stories and rumours, it makes for some very entertaining reading.

Now I see somebody agrees with me about Joey Pitbull being a control freak. Actually, if he wants his "dream job" (assuming Dusty Baker is let go), let's see if Beinfest will demand compensation and try to get another Willis from the Cubs.

I used to go to Miracle games all the time in Pompano..I remember Gonzalez fondly and he's a great handler of young players. Plus, he's a local boy as well who has been another Willie Randolph/Joe Maddon...mentioned/interviewed for jobs and getting passed over too many times. Like Randolph and Maddon, he'll eventually get a gig.

I won't be surprised if Girardi is let go. Yeah, I know it's his first year managing, but look what happened to Les Moss with the '79 Tigers and Tony Perez with the '94 Reds...how long did they last in their first year managing? Oh..I forgot to mention Karl Kuehl with the '76 Expos...he didn't last a full season in his only year either...

I'd personally like to see Perez get another chance...or bring Cookie Rojas down from the booth...or even Dawson, besides Gonzalez.

(It might not be a bad idea to have a LOCAL GUY managing the team in order to help get a STADIUM DEAL IN SOUTH FLORIDA)
