WTF is going on?

First let me just say that those who are pissed at Girardi for not pinch hitting for Dontrelle have a right to be pissed. It was a very questionable move.

BUT.......

Who had the BEST swings the entire game for the Marlins?

Dontrelle Willis did.

I agree with Ramp though......Based on numbers alone you have to go with Helms in that situation.

But lets not act like Girardi didnt have a REASON to go with Dontrelle. The kid tripled and then almost corked one out to right.

And again, Hanley Ramirez defensive blunders seem to escape the wrath of who gets blamed for a tough loss. Make the f****** plays Hanley. :banghead

I think our best bet right now is to try and stick Helms bat in our everyday lineup,it takes a bat off the bench but adds alot of pop in the lineup.Helms can be put into LF,then Hermida to Center and Willy to RF.

I'm sure Girardi was doing the best he could with a $15 million payroll. :plain

I know because teams with a ridiculously low payroll should always be a lock to make the playoffs.

:lol

Who said anything about playoffs?

Im not quite sure what your getting at then.....

The Marlins are going to lose games. They're young, inexperienced and they get very little support in SoFla.

Are we expecting them to not lose baseball games?

They cant score runs, they're shortstop cant make routine plays but its all Girardi's fault because he kept the hottest hitter of the game in (Willis).

If your not concerned about them making the playoff then what are you complaining about?

I'm sure Girardi was doing the best he could with a $15 million payroll. :plain

It's not even about the playoffs man...he has made a countless number of idiotic mistakes this year. At first I was in the category that he's a rookie manager, he's going to make some mistakes, but cooommme on. How can you not pinch hit for a pitcher who has thrown 100 pitches with men on 2nd and 3rd? It's baffling. The team has a pretty good record right now(compared to what was expected), but in all honesty I'm not too sure that has much to do with how well Girardi has managed this year.

It's about the manager giving his players the BEST chance to win a game and he has not done that on several occasions this year

I agree with you about Willis. I had no problem letting him hit because he had the 2 best swings of the entire game prior to that at bat. Not pinch hitting for Amezaga had me more upset. I personally would have hit Ross for him because you needed a fly ball and Ross's swing seems to produce a lot of those. Plus, you can complain all you want about that inning, but there were at least 2 others in which we had runners at 3rd with less than 2 out and could not bring them in. That type of non-situational hitting has cost the Marlins at least 5 games this season.

Seriously the $15 Million payroll excuse is really not excuse at all and needs to stop being used. As I've said before, it is an arbitrary figure that doesn't really measure the talent on this team. It is not as if Beinfest went out ala "Major League" and acquired a bunch of washed up veterans that nobody else wanted and paid them the league minimum. There are many people on this team that would start for several organizations. Next year, the team's payroll will double if we retain the exact same players and don't add a single person. If you want to chalk up a loss to inexperience, that's fine with me (although I'd disagree with you). But, PLEASE stop invoking the $15 Million excuse why Girardi (or this team) is allowed to stink.

They are running willis way too deeply into games pressing him for innings nad pitches. He has to be one of the most over-worked pitchers in the league. I am worried that might cause bad problems in the future.

As for pinch hitting yes, it should of been done in both cases. I dont like amazaga there at all as he is terrible with RISP. There is a reason he should just be a utility player upon this team.

Specially when Helms is the best player in the league pretty much with Close/Late situations.

Agreed 100%. I like Ross/Helms over Amezega too in that spot. Girardi made a mistake there.

I just think its comical the way Girardi gets hammered after losses. He made a very questionable call last night but the entire offense is accountable for the loss as well (Hanley's botched play didnt help either).

It won't matter in the future because Willis won't be here....

Helms should have pinch-hit for Amezaga. And since Dontrelle was the only player (aside from Hermida) to make good contact against Lowe, that really didn't bother me. It bothered me a little... but not as much as seeing Amezaga at the plate... f***in Alfredo Amexican

i agree.. team doesnt come through in clutch situations with runners on 3rd with 1 out, and girardi gets the blame for 1 questionable call.. people here just overreact for every loss like its the end of the world, and girardi gets the brunt of the blame, ignoring to place blame on people like hanley who had an awful at bat with a guy on third and 1 out, and botched routine plays on the field.

2 things this club needs to become a playoff team:

1) a CFer

2) Become more clutch (just hit SAC flies like veterans). I remember the game I went to vs. the Red Sox. We should have won that game because we had bases juiced and 0 outs and didn't score. Then later in the game we had bases juiced and 1 out and didn't score.....that erked me. But clutch hits and ABs will come in time I guess....at least Miguel is becoming a little more clutch this year.

Why is Amezaga not being PH for?

Why is Train hitting for himself?

:banghead :banghead :banghead :banghead

Amezaga shouldn't have been PH for

Why not?

he is hitting .143 with RISPEvery person on the bench at that time, except Hoover, Mitre and Abercrombie, are batting less than .230 with RISP. We needed a hit or atleast contact. No one was a significantly better option than Amezaga.

Helms should have been up there in Amezaga's spot

no ifs ands buts or whatevers

Not really. Helms is equally as terrible at getting a hit in that situation. He's batting .227 for the year with RISP (Ok, .233 vs. LHP w/ RISP in 30 ABs). And strikes out at a rate of 28% to Amezaga's 16%. It's not the slamdunk decision you suggest it is.

Didn't see the game, but Girardi with two runners in scoring position and 2 outs did not pinch hit for Dontrelle? What the hell? AND he was already at 99 pitches? That has to be common sense there. I'm sure Loria/FO isn't exactly happy with this move. Really just doesn't make any sense why he would leave him in the game.

Maybe they should fire the guy. That would send a great message to anybody else ever considering being Marlins manager. Firing a manager who's got a very good shot of being named manager of the year......even though the half of you here want him thrown out with yesterday's jockstraps.

yes, let's allow Punch And Judy to go up there and ground out... oh wait, he did that!

inexcusable... you have the best hitter in the NL this year in getting big hits late and you allow Mr .143 with a chance to drive them in. Absolutely absurd. It's an absolute slamdunk decision. Absolute.

dont get me wrong, i didnt blame the loss on Joe.... but I felt like he didnt give us the best chance to win, especially in the 7th inning

The second Dontrelle started bobbing his head (oh how I hate that) in the 6th inning after getting jacked by Nomar, I knew the game was over so I went to bed, looks like I'm glad I didn't stay up even later.

I will say this, I was not a huge fan of Girardi at the start of the year, and I'm still not completely won over.

HOWEVER, the rap of ALL Torre disciples is that they (like Torre) are bad in-game managers...just the way they are. BUT, Girardi's impact as a motivator cannot be underestimated. Say what you want about Cabrera, Uggla etc. being the reason for the success and not Joe, but Girardi has Cabrera caring again a lot...he didn't last year, and he sure as hell checked out in September even when we had the Goddamn lead in the Wild Card.

Just saying...

That's a ridiculous exaggeration. Helms has done well in "close and late" but the best in the NL? Let's get real. With that said, he should have hit for DTrain.

statistically.

anyone complaining about last night should be shot.

this second-guessing garbage is so silly and pointless i don't understand why these threads keep getting created, but lets play along.

so you guys wanted amezaga pinch hit for? i wouldn't complain, but i also don't think its a catastrophic mistake to not pinch hit like some of you try and make it out to be. talk about over-exaggerating a move (or non-move)

pinch hit for willis? again, wouldn't complain, but i see clearly what girardi's reason for not doing it.

what did willis do his first two swings this game? just miss a home run twice? did all you second-guessers just happen to forget that or what? yes, he's only hitting .111 or whatever it is, but every single one of us knows he's a better hitter than that...if you don't, you're an idiot.

second, what has been the problem plaguing this team for the last month? yep, you guessed it, 7th inning relief. what inning was coming up next? hmmmmmmmmm

what happens if he pinch hits helms, puts in someone from the Pen (Messenger?) who gives up a couple of runs...what are you guys going to say then? yes, in hindsight, willis gave up two runs himself, but who would you rather have in there? especially how willis was throwing last night?

if he makes the moves you wanted him to and we end up losing..i guaran-fricken-tee some of the posters bitching and moaning would be doing the same under that scenario. damned if you do, damned if you don't.

we lost this game because our hitters didn't hit and our defense was shoddy, not because of girardi.

a bloop hit and a groundball up the middle vs a triple to the deepest part of the park and a fly ball that just missed a HR...

yep, hermida definatley had the better swings against lowe. :plain

He had 2 hits and lined out in either his 1st or 2nd at bat.

Willis hit the ball hard 1 time.

Hermida had better swing.

alfredo amezaga has super sub written all over him in the near future. he is our chone figgins. he will be a major part off the bench for the next several years. :thumbup

bulls***. Alfredo Amezaga has scrub written all over him.
