August 17, 200620 yr HIS NAME IS... (you know the rest) :mischief JJ a very close second. But the last month or so of the year could change my mind on it.
August 17, 200620 yr EVEN I will go against Uggla. Nolasco is the first to 11* on the Fish and he didn't even start half the season. *=he had 2 W as a reliever, however
August 17, 200620 yr HIS NAME IS... (you know the rest) :mischief JJ a very close second. But the last month or so of the year could change my mind on it. I agree, all he has to do is continue to play consitent baseball. The long way that Uggla has come to get to the majors and improve dramatically on his defense. Then be able to become a All Start from a Rule 5 Draft Pick, is nothing short of amazing. The guy is hitting for power, average and is only becoming better as a solid double play partner to Hanley. He has been consistent for the most part, he went into a little funk after the All-Start game. Went 1 for 8 in the first 2 games of the Dodgers series. Though in Game 3 he bounces back just as he should. That right there is my ROY choice. Josh Johnson does come in very strong at 2nd, for the simple fact he has been able to have good control, stop the losing streaks and he can show he can pitch against the best. Josh has come through on big pressure situations and if he isn't already the ace of the staff, it won't be long till he is. The ceiling is high for both of them, but Uggla has my pick. :thumbup
August 17, 200620 yr I doubt a Marlin wins it simply because too many will split the vote. IMO tho it's Josh Johnson. As many wins or more than Schmidt, Carpenter and Oswalt and a lower ERA than everyone except Webb. Uggla is having a great season for a rookie. Josh Johnson is having a great season, period.
August 17, 200620 yr JJ is a legitimate CY candidate and is hands down the top rookie pitcher. Uggla is not an MVP candidate and is one of several rookie position players having outstanding rookie seasons but he has not separated himself from the pack. JJ is our best ROY candidate and this should not even be up for debate.
August 17, 200620 yr I don't follow baseball too much. Are there legitimate candidates in the NL outside the Marlins? I doubt a Marlin player will win because they'll take each other's votes.
August 17, 200620 yr I don't follow baseball too much. Are there legitimate candidates in the NL outside the Marlins? I doubt a Marlin player will win because they'll take each other's votes. Ryan Zimmerman and Prince Fielder are the favorites outside of the Marlins

August 17, 200620 yr The 22-year-old pitcher who has managed to have the top ERA in the NL for much of the season, Josh Johnson. He has been nearly unhittable when he is on and when he doesn't have his best stuff, he still manages to put the Marlins in a position to win almost every time he takes the mound. Like Stag5 mentioned though, the Marlins have a lot of players who will get ROTY consideration and could (probably will) split the vote. I don't follow baseball too much. Are there legitimate candidates in the NL outside the Marlins? I doubt a Marlin player will win because they'll take each other's votes. Ryan Zimmerman and Prince Fielder are the favorites outside of the Marlins Andre Eithier as well. This has been a great year for rookies, in both the NL and AL.
August 17, 200620 yr Josh Johnson has won 10 games but DAN UGGLA has HELPED win in 56 games. You do the math to whose more valuable. Without Uggla's bat, we'd be approaching 80 losses right now. YES, even with Johnson in the lineup.
August 17, 200620 yr since pitching is more important than hitting, the answer is josh johnson...he is our stopper and has pitched great all year long...and while i think all the marlins candidates will split the votes up a bit...it would be in very good taste by baseball writers to reward the young marlins with this award...as the feeling on the team would be a shared one more than an individual award i would think
August 17, 200620 yr This has been discussed. Right now, it has to be Josh Johnson. Granted Uggla has been great thus far, Johnson has been awesome. Even after a bad outing, he still has the second best ERA in the league, behind Brandon Webb and ahead of Jason Schmidt. Pretty good company.
August 17, 200620 yr I don't think that Josh Johnson deserves it. Uggla has been a driving force in our lineup, AND he made the All-Star Game as a RULE 5 Rookie. When does that ever happen?
August 17, 200620 yr gotta go with uggla. a hitter has the advantage over the pitcher because he plays everyday. I don't think that Josh Johnson deserves it. Uggla has been a driving force in our lineup, AND he made the All-Star Game as a RULE 5 Rookie. When does that ever happen? ..doesn't deserve it? he's had an awesome season, he's not the BEST candidate in my mind, though.
August 17, 200620 yr A pitcher with a lower ERA tends to stand out. I think JJ is a more attractive candidate for voters. Dan Uggla is the other candidate. He went to the All-Star game out of nowhere.
August 17, 200620 yr Ethier could steal it. Uggla should get it, Zimmerman may get it, and I'd be surprised if either Johnson or Nolasco get it.
August 17, 200620 yr nolasco and ramirez shouldn't be candidates. this is betwee uggla/JJ/prince/zimmerman.
August 17, 200620 yr nolasco and ramirez shouldn't be candidates. this is betwee uggla/JJ/prince/zimmerman. You have to put Ethier and Russell Martin among the favorites with JJ, Uggla, Fielder and Zimmerman. Willingham is also in the mix. If it ended right now JJ should win it in landslide.
August 17, 200620 yr I think, though, that if we can make a good run, just so we are competitors in the WC race, it will boost JJ's or danny's chances.

Hammer could sneak in there. Because he had such a torrid start, his numbers arent too far off and with a strong finish these next 6 weeks, he could jump to the top of the list.
August 17, 200620 yr I know, some might disagree with me here, but I think JJ has a better chance of winning the Cy Young this year, best ERA,T3 in Wins. It could happen...
