Out of the Past
http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/sports/15691659.htm The 150 Marlins games on FSN and Sun finished with a 2.9 rating -- down from a 4.2 for 95 Marlins games on FSN last season but topping the 2.3 for regular-season 2005-06 Heat games on Sun. louiecastillo1
I can't believe the ratings were higher than the heat's. It's probably cuz heat fans actually go to the games.
TarHeel324
I can't believe the ratings were higher than the heat's. It's probably cuz heat fans actually go to the games. Or because the Heat didnt play too many meaningful regular season games. It was a given theyd cruise through and get a top seed
Out of the Past
are these good number's? Not at all. Big drop-off from last year. I can't believe the ratings were higher than the heat's. It's probably cuz heat fans actually go to the games. I can. There are more Marlins fans that Heat fans. The buzz around town for the Heat in the finals didn't compare to the '03 WS. Most people didn't start to watch the marlins in '03 until they started getting hot around mid-season. Shaq and Wade create more buzz alone than the entire marlins team IMO. Accord
We have the fan base and this is proof of it, it's just people don't go to the games, I think this will change once we get a stadium.
TSwift25
Wait wait wait, so we got spinned by all the claims of "fantastic numbers"? Sure seems like there was damage done... Even if we bettered the Heat, we still took a huge step backwards by our own standard. The Marlins truly shocked the world, whereas the Heat simply met expectations and fans had a "Well it's about damn time!" type of attitude. I can't think of a better way to measure it than TV ratings and the Marlins blow away the Heat in that department. If you go by talk radio one would think the Heat because talk radio is about the Dolphins and then the Heat but that's because the hosts are for the most part not baseball fans and if they are baseball fans they have baseball after football and basketball. Just my opinion.
chickenman04
They got better ratings than the Heat cause Baseball is a much better sport than Basketball.

Mabdul Doobakus
I'm surprised the ratings are that much higher than the Heat's ratings. It could be because the Heat play during a time of year when there's just a lot of other stuff on. There's absolutely nothing else to watch during most of the baseball season. Â But that probably only partly explains it, I'm sure. When you get right down to it, baseball is just a more popular sport than the basketball. I'm not saying this is whole reason for the drop-off but maybe a contributing factor...there was some confusion about the "additional games" not included on some cable packages and initially DirecTV. In fact, even after DirectTV announced they would be available you needed the Total Choice Plus plan. In other words, if you just had Total Choice you weren't getting those games. I know Comcast carried all the games but I think Adelphia did not.

Fishfan79
Also alot of the major heat games arent on FSN but ESPN, TNT, ABC, etc etc etc pretty much so their share for big games are elsewhere. But, I like me some baseball more then basketball personally.  any idea what the splits are between broward, palm beach and dade viewership? Hollyberry
Baseball > Anyother sport. Â Nice to see the ratings high :thumbup
CapeFish
These ratings are no surprise. The HEAt got beaten by the Marlins simply because baseball is nightly viewing while basketball is a couple times a week. BTW, Sun Sports got good enough ratings for the HEAT, basketball just does not bring in ratings when you have a game like Charlotte-Miami going against Chicago-Detroit on the same night over on TNT or ESPN. MLB on ESPN doesn't cannibalize itself or the local teams. EndLine
I can probably tell you an estimate amount of viewers if I knew if this was just regional or if its the whole country. Â I can tell you right now a 2.9 is still very good (around 4-5 million) if its country-wide.
