The Golden Boy Vs The Pretty Boy

Featured Replies

Mark it down, the first great Boxing Superfight, in too long. May 5th, Live from Las Vegas.

The most popular fighter of the past 10 years, Oscar De La Hoya Vs the Greatest fighter of the past 10 years Floyd Mayweather Jr at 154 for De La Hoya's WBC Belt

It may be the last great superfight on the horizon, so it's going to be something special and it may be these legends last fight(if you believe them).

You have to go with Floyd here, he's easily the best fighter out there but I'm not writing off the Golden Boy.

Ticket prices are a wee bit ridiculous.

From Dan Rafael's espn.com notebook:

? Even though tickets ranging in price from $350 to $2,000 apiece for the May 5 Oscar De La Hoya-Floyd Mayweather Jr. fight have not yet gone on public sale, the fight is steaming toward a sellout, according to Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer. Of the approximately 16,000 seats available at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Schaefer said 12,832 are already spoken for because of advance requests from casinos, sponsors, HBO, Golden Boy and the Mayweather camp. "Tickets are almost gone even though they are not even on sale yet," Schaefer said. "I have never ever seen something like it." If all tickets are sold, the live gate will be $19.3 million, which would shatter the American record of $16.83 million done by the 1999 Lennox Lewis-Evander Holyfield rematch at the Thomas & Mack Center.

Both men will be in Miami tomorrow to hype their upcoming bout as part of their 11 city tour. The event is free to the public and will feature a stready stream of hype for the fight including, both fighters fielding questions, interviews with their respective camps, boxing dignitaries, video packages, and of course a stare down, because for christs sakes its not a title bout with out a pre planned staredown.

Here's the info if you're interested in seeing them, again its free to attend

Miami, noon: Bayside Marketplace Marina Stage, 401 Biscayne Blvd.

Hey, look, it's another boxing match I will never see because it will cost like $75 just to watch it on TV.

So get 15 people together and it's 5 bucks each.

Yeah, Mabdul that's what I usually do, and this is one fight that is going to be worth it. Its more of an event rather than a fight. This will be one of the few times where it seems everyone will be looking at the sport, at once.

BTW, the price is 50 bucks on PPV

I hope De La Hoya wins because I think for PBF to win he was to stink out the fight by tapping(you'll notice i did not say punching) and moving , that said i think PBF will win a boring fight in which he rarely engages De La Hoya hopefully i am wrong

Ok, well the fight is here in about two weeks. HBO during this time is airing old mayweather, and de la hoya bouts including Mayweather Vs Gatti, Mayweather Vs Corrales, De La Hoya Vs Vargas and Mayorga. They are also running De La Hoya/Mayweather 24/7 after Entourage on Sundays about the ins and outs of this super fight.

I'm ready for my final pick in the fight and that is, Mayweather will dance around and score for the first four rounds but De La Hoya will be doing an excellent job timing him and eventually this timing will slow Mayweather down and by the 6th or 7th round Mayweathers attempts to come in will be met with De La Hoya's ever present left hook. De La Hoya will have no problem landing and slowing him down towards the end of the fight and much like the DLH/Ike Quartey fight DLH clearly wins the last rounds giving him the edge on the judge's scorecard in a fight that either man could be seen as the winner.

Let's hope the Golden Boy doesn't try and protect his face like he did with Hopkins! That fight pissed me off, it cost me 50 dollars plus 15 pizza, 3 heiny beers of 24, and my time! LOL!

Well Floyd's on the cover of this weeks ESPN magazine, I don't know whether SI will be doing a cover but I'm sure they'll feature a story.

Also because this makes it OH SO much more important of a fight than it already is 50 Cent will be doing the entrance for Floyd this saturday.

Yeah, it's oddly addicting. I originally laughed it off as shameless promotion but its actually quite good. Anytime Roger Mayweather starts talking = gold.

Or as Bill Simmons put it... "Have you ever imagined as Flavor Flav as a boxing trainer... that's Roger"

The Hbo show is fantastic, both are in incredible shape. Yes Roger Mayweather is awesome, Floyd JR and SR are quite funny. Floyd SR looks terrible. Im cant decided who im rooting for.

What about the Klitschko Brothers..........I love them both......both have their phd's

Mayweather as always is in peak physical condition.

DLH as he appeared he would looks as good as ever. Much more cut up than he was for the Mayorga fight.

I think Mayweather has a clear edge but De La Hoya will do his usual backing and waiting and waiting and backing until the end of the fight to take it on points.

if there's a KO it will be De La Hoya within the first 4 rounds

hooray for a couple of midgets duking it out.

Umm Floyd is 5'8" and Oscar 5'10"

if there's a KO it'll be floyd. His whole family has a glass chin and oscar has only being only ko by Hopkins. Oscar wins fights early becuase he gets tired in the late rounds.

hooray for a couple of midgets duking it out.

Hurray for an ignorant peon trying to wax philosophical.

It's the richest bout in boxing history but yeah no one cares.

I watched the Mayweather, Jose Luis Castillo bout last night which is the only bout where Mayweather's even come close to losing. I don't know is Oscar can or even should try to fight like JLC, which is simply to rush forward and hammer to the body but I do think Oscar is going to be going almost exclusively to the body for the first few rounds and that's where the differnence will be. Floyd is not going to like that at all.

what I meant was that if De La Hoya has a chance to KO Mayweather it will be in the first 4 rounds
