January 7, 200718 yr Article says they would only do it if a conventional attack was ruled out and if the US did not intervene, which I'm sure the US would. But Iran isn't leaving Israel with a whole lot of choices. Iran's leader seems hell bent on eradicating Israel, which means that Israel simply can't allow Iran to develop nuclear weapons. They will do whatever they must to prevent this development, at whatever cost to themselves and to the world. It would be nice if the rest of the world would step in before Israel is forced to do something drastic.
January 8, 200718 yr When any country ever seriously contemplates nuking another country, it is NEVER good news. A nuclear attack will open a can of worms that no one on this board wants to see.

January 8, 200718 yr I'm sorry, but the reality is, the Iran thing is WAY overblown. The Iranian president does not have much real power in that country. He is merely a figurehead who answers to the Ayatollahs who actually run Iran. They themselves have no desire to go to war with the United States. I have also heard that Iran has good reason to want nuclear power and NOT nuclear bombs. Their oil supply is reportedly running low, and may be too costly to access in 10-15 years. They believe that nuclear power would be far less costly than the recovery of the oil. I also feel like this whole thing is Israel trying to get the U.S. to solve their regional security problems. We have no reason to attack Iran. They represent no threat to the USA, but a potential threat to Israel.
January 8, 200718 yr Military contigency plans are not an idication that a government is thinking of doing anything. Also, Iran wanting weapons and Iran wanting legitimate nuclear power are not opposites. It is entirely possible and reasonable to deduce that Iran has a legitimate desire of nuclear power AND that Iran desires nuclear weapons.
January 8, 200718 yr Military contigency plans are not an idication that a government is thinking of doing anything. This is true. The Pentagon has drawn up plans on how to attack pretty much every country in the world that are regularly updated. Doesn't mean there are any plans of using them ever. Just good to be prepared.

It's not that they can legitimately hurt us, but through their exercise of 'terrorism' with the nukes, they are defying democracy and posing a threat to others we are allied with. I mean, that's what Iraq was about anyway. The only countries that can hold their own against us are already on our side.
January 8, 200718 yr Even the CIA has said that Iran is at least 10 years away from a nuclear weapon.

January 8, 200718 yr Our track record with intervening in middle east affairs isn't very good. We need to do NOTHING until the UN asks for help. Then we have our representative say something witty like, "remember Iraq?" And sit right back down.
