McFly
Shaquille O'Neal will have one additional game to re-establish his chemistry with Dwyane Wade as he works his way back into game shape following November knee surgery. The Heat players will be teammates -- and starters -- on the Eastern Conference team at the Feb. 18 NBA All-Star Game in Las Vegas. O'Neal and Wade join Washington's Gilbert Arenas, Toronto's Chris Bosh and Cleveland's LeBron James as the East's starters and top vote-getters. It is the 14th All-Star appearance for O'Neal, who was voted a starter by fans despite missing 37 of the Heat's first 41 games with a knee injury. O'Neal has surgery Nov. 19 to repair torn cartilage in his left knee. O'Neal played in Wednesday's road loss to the Pacers, his first game since he sustained the injury in a Nov. 12 home loss to the Rockets. Wade will make his third All-Star appearance in four seasons in the league. Wade, last season's NBA Finals Most Valuable Player, is the league's fourth-leading scorer at 28.3 points a game. Houston's Yao Ming and Tracy McGrady, Minnesota's Kevin Garnett, San Antonio's Tim Duncan and the Los Angeles Lakers' Kobe Bryant will start for the West. Marlins97-03
No offense to Shaq, but I think the all-star game has got to be more than a popularity contest. How can a guy play in only 4 games or so all season, end up starting in an all-star game. Fans I think should have a little less emphasis in voting and put into the hands of owners, players, and a panel of media. Yes, yes, I know the fans buy the tickets and fill the arenas, and stadiums in other sports, but I'm sure there are more deserving players who statistically are more deserving. Mabdul Doobakus
The game exists for the fans. If the fans want to see Shaq, they should get to see Shaq. Truth is, the fans have very little say in who plays in the game as it is. They get to pick 5 spots on each squad, and it's very rare that the players voted in wouldn't have been picked anyway. Every once in a blue moon, the fans get to put in someone they wouldn't have otherwise had a chance to see. So, power to the people. Shaq is always good for a few laughs in the All-Star Game, and we'll all have a better time watching it with him in it.

We should also be allowed to vote in retired players, players in jail, NFLers no involed in the postseason, NHLers, NASCAR drivers and politicians in as well. I just want Jordan and Bird back. Mabdul Doobakus
Let's not be ridiculous. The player pool consists of active NBA players. Though they did let Magic back that one year after he got voted in (he was retired).
MoveFishToOrlando
simply said. baseball is the best A-S game. the voting is done right for the most part. the rule for every team to have one player is acceptable. nba is a waste, the pro-bowl is a joke. nhl was cool in 2003, in florida but otherwise its always a blowout and the fan basis is rare now a days anyway. MLB is the only all star game with competetion, always close. nba...no1 plays defense and they all show off their harlem globtrotter skills and final scores seem to always be 140's to 130's. and the voting is never done right. example: shaq over howard?!?!?! maybe in HISTORY, not this year McGrady over Nash?!?!?! gimme a break. whens the last time a back-2-back MVP didnt start the AS game the following year and i also read, if iverson were in the EAST still, hed be voted over GILBERT? fans dont know crap in NBA, its all popularity
BeefWillingham
Right, MLB fans do a great job with the voting. Thats why the NL staters closely resemble the Mets and the AL starters are the Sox-Yankees.

MLB fans dont have a clue either The one player for each team rule is stupid. either a player is all-star caliber or not, there shouldnt be a rule requiring an undeserving player to be added I dont see whats wrong with the NBA ASG as it is. If a player deserves to make it, they will. It doesnt matter who starts the game, everyone who should be in will get good minutes. And youre complaining about the style of the game? An ASG is all about entertaining the fans, not playing good fundamental basketball

Buckeye
The NBA All-Star game is a joke. The fanbase just continues to prove how moronic they are by their voting. And Steve Nash>All And whoever said the NHL All Star game isn't still fun or is always a blowout... LEAVE. I could care less how little hockey fans their are in this country, that game Wednesday ruled.
