CLEMENTS TO NINERS

A fan site known as 49erswebzone.com reports that Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com reports that the 49ers have signed or are in the process of signing cornerback Nate Clements.

However, no such story currently appears on Bengals.com.

With all that said, we have reason to believe that the report is on the money. Stay tuned.

PLUMMER TO THE BUCS

Several media outlets report that the Broncos have shipped quarterback Jake Plummer to the Buccaneers, for a fourth-round draft pick.

The move gives Plummer a chance to compete with Chris Simms for the starting job, and likely relegates 2006 rookie Bruce Gradkowski to the bottom of the depth chart.

It also removes Tampa from the Jeff Garcia derby.

i dont get it, Jeff Garcia is not good, not good at all, he proved it with the lions and browns, granted that both those teams dont have the talent level that the eagles have..... but isnt it a QB's job to make the people around em look good?

anyways the smartest thing this dumb ass could do is stay with the eagles and not go anywhere........

THEY DIDN'T OFFER HIM A CONTRACT EXTENSION.

The Dolphins are letting go of all their offensive lineman. Bennie Anderson and McKinney are gone, they just released Jeno James...and McIntosh and Jacox are FAs....I mean, they are literally rebuilding the line.

ya i kno, thats what i wannted to say, but nobody posted it, what does this say about our past decisions? we need to get rid of shelton to and time to face it that carey might just be a bust.......

this is freaking awosome man, a whole new o line everyone is gonna be new except hadnot and carey

I still like Carey, like to see him again this year....But we need to get some big hitters through free agency. I remember when we picked up McIntosh and James, they were both coming off very good seasons....and then they came here and died.

This is one of the worsts posts I have seen.

The lions and browns are terrible. It doesnt matter who plays qb. Look at their records the past 10 years and all the qb's they've had.

Garcia was a pro bowler on the 49ers and carried the eagles to the playoffs this season. With a decent core around him he is a good player.

Someone will sign him soon enough. I wonder if the bears take a look at him?

Plummer's going to retire although some think it's a ploy for him to get with the Texans

NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports the 49ers have signed cornerback Nate Clements to an eight-year, $80 million contract.

Wow.

It's a mind-boggling eight-year, $80 million deal, with $22 million in guaranteed money, and it makes Clements the highest-paid defensive player in NFL history. Clements was expected to be pursued by several teams. But he never got out of San Fran.

Vernon Carey is easily our best offensive lineman. He is a top ten right tackle. I have no idea how you can call him a bust, just look at the yards per run the dolphins get when they run to the right side. Plus he doesnt commit dumb penalties like macintosh or give up that many sacks.

Today the Bills signed three offensive linemen - Derrick Dockery (LG), Langston Walker (RT), and Jason Whittle (utility backup). None are all-pro's but all should be solid additions to what was the Bills' biggest weakness for the last few years.

Also, the Broncos are going hard after Willis McGahee. I have no idea where the Bills will go for a RB if they trade McGahee (Ahman Green was rumored at one point but he's too injury prone for my liking), but I'm guessing it's someone like Kenny Irons in the second round of the draft.

edit: Apparently they are looking at Chris Brown, formerly of Tennessee, as a backup to replace the A-Train.

I believe that Jeff Garcia signed in oakland.

80 million for clements is alot. I think some teams may be wise to wait a few days and let other teams over pay for players.

Clements is not that good to warrant him the highest payed Defensive player in history.

I believe that Jeff Garcia signed in oakland.

Nancy Gay of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that the Raiders and free-agent quarterback Jeff Garcia are at impasse after several hours of negotiations.

"He's going to keep exploring his options and the Raiders will, too,'' an NFL source said Friday afternoon.

The basis for the impasse, as we see it, could be Garcia's request for a promise that the Raiders won't select JaMarcus Russell with the first overall pick in the draft. Though Garcia turns 37 this year, he likely doesn't want to play mentor to the guy who would eventually bump him to the bench.

Agreed. I don't know why Carey gets the reputation as a bust. Like you said, he's already a top right tackle and he's only going to get better. He should be anchoring that side of the line for years.

I'm glad the Bengals don't spend ridiculous money on what I consider the worst FA market in years. Thomas and Clements were the ONLY guys I think we'd really need, but they want too much damn money.

The thing is, our fanbase is so fickle they complain about it. But, not structuring these huge free agent deals with the 9 mil cap we have allows us to resign our own guys and pay the rookies, meanwhile NOT giving these dudes the huge money they think they deserve also means we don't have to restructure our team every year, which I like. It allows TJ, Chad, Carson, Rudi, Kenny and co. to actually be teammates for four years or longer.

That being said, I don't really want Takeo but he's definitely an upgrade at LB. So, hopefully we go after him or Porter. Porter wants too much money and was never the player advertised, but that flexing and taunting stuff is funny when he's on your team. Plus, we need a vocal dude who can yell at people on D.

Horrible deal for the Bills who are about to lose McGahee too!

Derrick Dockery's contract is worth $49 million over seven years, including a stunning $18 million guaranteed.

To put in perspective, future Hall of Fame LT Orlando Pace got a $15 million bonus to sign two years ago. Dockery has never made the Pro Bowl

i dont think i have ever seen money thrown away like this before in the NFL

i mean Clements is good but 80 million good? i dont think so, but we can sign whomever and say we give him 10 years 100 million dollars and only like 10 mil is guranteed, NFL contracts are a joke, they only make there money on the signing bouns....

now MLB thats where ya rich, u can be in the minors ya whole carrer and still be a millionaire thats AWOSOME.....

Thats true. The 9ers had over 30 million in cap room, so its not a huge hit. Clements is only 25 I believe. So they'll probably keep the current contract for 3 years, then start restructuring it. If not they could just get like 4 years out of him and cut him.

Last year the jets signed ty law to a 6 year deal, and cut him after one year.

I know that contracts don't really matter in the NFL because none of them are 100% guaranteed...but why in the hell would you sign ANYONE to an 8 freakin' year deal? I would understand if it were an established franchise QB like a Manning or Brady, but a defensive player? Blehhh.

Aaand Jeffy Boy Garcia continues his NFL journey...in Tampa. Good luck. And my condolences to you Bucs fans.
