The Cf situation is overrated in many people's minds.

:lol

We are clearly set for the next 20 years at that position.

He is what he is. Anyone who knows baseball should know hes one of the best in the biz.

All you guys that are bashing the cf situation are crazy. Where was Bienfast supposed to get the money to fill the cf spot. His hands were tied. They have been tied since 2004. Give the guy a break. Sanchez was a long shot that was a cheap gamble. Reed is not ready to be a starting cf. Bienfast kept Ross over Reed who was batting .351 verses Ross with .076. All you stat guys would say keep Reed over Ross. Balony. Ross has way more threat, and is a much more rounded player than Reed will ever be. De Aza was strong in spring training. You guys are going to slam the only rookie on the team. What about last year? Get over it dudes. De Aza deserves the job right now. Bienfast has covered cf if De Aza washes.

All with minimum salary. THATS THE WHOLE POINT remember the payroll cuts. Give Bienfast a break. Give the players a break that have made the team. Lets get ready for opening day on Tuesday. Bienfast gets a thumbs up from me.

all the "stat guys" hate Eric Reed

and getting a young CF has nothing to do with money

beinfest could have traded a young arm for a young centerfielder.

but then he said he didn't want to risk that, because you never know what will happen in the future with young dudes with lots of talent.

and then he trades petit for dirt.

His hands were definitely tied on the CF situation. Next year will be a lot easier to acquire one.

I think we take a step backwards this year before taking two or three steps forward next year.

ya, I didn't like that move either. Petit is worth more than Julio, at least in the future he will be. But who knows, if Julio turns out to be another closer-in-the-ruff, we'll all be praising Beinfest and saying we liked this move from the start.

In the very near future, Petit isn't going to have any value. He's Bazardo part 2.. one of our better pitching prospects by default. Once this new wave comes crashing in, his value on the market is going to be a glorified throw-in.

Slightly underrated. This offseason hasn't been good, but I don't think it's been a total disaster considering the financial limitations he works under.

I would like to see a trade for SOME kind of outfielder. It's not just CF that is a problem, we have no depth out there. The Brewers have six outfielders that are better than De Aza or Borchard.

On a national stage he's thought of exactly where he should be but in terms of the local audience and Marlin fans he's overrated.

Although as a player he's nothing like Bazardo. Bazardo was all talent, no production. The guy with the great fastball and no sense to strike anyone out. Petit got production out of little. He hasn't been able to translate that to the major league level

You don't know how good De Aza is yet...Borchard is a role player and is fine in that role

I am not thrilled with the Julio trade but I wouldn't call him "dirt". I felt it as an unnecessary move. Both Owens and Lindstrom may be much better. However it puts less pressure on the 2 rookies

Extremely average. He has had a lot of tools to deal with as far as trades go, so what he has done is nice, but not overly impressive.

He is better at drafting in the Rule V Draft than the regular MLB Draft. The lack of position player in our system is inexcusable, regardless of how valuable pitching is in trades. We need hitters, have none in the system, have no money to sign any, and none of our prospects are going to get back a stud as of now.

Sorry, I just don't see how anyone can claim him to be one of the elite in the business.

Beinfest inherited a team stacked with young talented players and molded it into a WS with a series of great moves in '02 and '03 so he deserves a lot of credit for his work back then but from then on he's had a few hits and misses. He's a good GM but not among the elite. I think his career W / L as a GM is below .500.

It is utterly amazing that Beinfest gets slammed at all. No one ever seems to remember that one of his first moves was ditching Preston Wilson and Charles Johnson (and their awful contracts) for Juan Pierre- a move that had a huge role in the 03' championship. People always bring up the D-Lee trade when NO ONE saw derek elevating his game to crazy MVP levels...every other team should get slammed for not going after him.

And why has he got so little credit for upgrading this year's bullpen? Yes I said it. Bringing in Owens, Lindstrom, and Kevin Gregg for basically nothing is solid work. Add those 3 to Tank and that's four live, young, cheap arms. Throw in Julio and that's 5 guys who can all bring it. In other words he's put our bullpen in a great position to succeed for very little money. 3/4 of baseball has an unstable bullpen.

And what exactly was he suspose to do about the CF situation. You can't make a trade for the sake of making one. Would I like to see Chris Young in a Marlins uniform- hell yeah. But I don't think he really ever had a fair trade presented. Now if next year comes along and we have no CF and a plethora of SP prospects then I think we can fairly bitch.

It's all good to complain, bitch, and play arm chair GM's but why don't we point out the holes in Miguel's swing as long as we're overly analyzing one of baseball's best GM's hands f***ing down.

actually many of us believed Derrek would be an All Star player, and put up good numbers in Chitown

To properly evaluate Admin Beinfest we need to stop comparing apples to oranges and instead compare apples to apples. His team has been in the lower third of payroll almost every year he's been GM. How have the Marlins done compared to the other teams that are in the lower third of payroll? Have we outperformed most? I think we probably have. Therefore, he's very good with his financial constraints.

God bless you if you even remotely anticipated D-Lee's crazy jump in his HR's/on base numbers. I really thought he had basically peaked as a player and never, ever thought he would even jump into the Carlos Delgado level much less top 10 hitters in the game level. Great player and i'm happy for him.

Common sense would dictate a spike in his HR total just upon leaving Dolphin Stadium and going to Wrigley alone.

Look at his splits when he was with the Marlins, DS zapped him of his power. In his career with the Marlins, he hit 161 HR, 102 of which were on the road.
