Barry Bonds breaks All-Time Home Run Record

Featured Replies

ESPN can't get rights to Sunday games unless it's at 8 p.m., I believe. That's the impression I got from Cape.

Ah, he's not starting. Did ESPN know about this in advance?

Yes, they knew as they made mention to the fact that if he was playing today, they would have been televising it

Was out havin some beers watching it on a big screen last night.

A majestic blast! Im happy for Barry. A LOT of relief in that clap he did after he hit it.

Bud Selig, you are dead to me after you put your hands in your pocket. Why did you even bother to go?

Lookin forward to Monday night.

I thought that was pretty cool on Selig's part

at least Selig showed up, it will be interesting to see the on field ceremony when the steroid freak breaks the record....please hurry A-Rod, and get the record away from this freak of nature.....

I guess if Barry is innocent, so was OJ!!! innocent till proven guilty , right??? isn;t it strange how they haven't found the REAL killer 13 years later, but innocent right guys???

no one will ever convince me this record is legit....all hail Aaron and the Babe.....

Bonds and 756??!!!!................YAWN, YAWN

Yea. Standing idly by while this whole steroid mess ballooned out of proportion because baseball was making money hand over fist for the first time since after the strike, and then having the nerve to give Barry Bonds, the greatest player of this generation with or without steroids, that reaction. Really big of him.

Besides, I'm sure Bud was clapping like an idiot when this guy (

) was breaking a pretty important record.

No one will ever convince me Ruth's record is any more legit than Bonds'.

And yes, innocent until proven guilty. It's called the justic system, and I really hope you are never chosen to a jury.

he's probably guilty of taking steroids, him and at least 40% of the rest of the MLB (IMO), but lo and behold, those other 40% aren't about to hit their 756th HR.

The guy is unbelievable, this is just as much talent (much moreso, really) than it is steroids

what little respect I had for selig got destroyed when I saw his reaction to 755

and for the person ranting about the alleged 'roids that Bonds took, quick question for ya... did you ever see bonds being injected? has anyone CREDIBLE witness this happen? has there ever been any test results showing elevated levels?

if your answer is no to any of those questions then go play in the corner.

OJ got off because of shoddy prosecution.

My 2 cents.

Bonds is a great hitter. Whatever he did chemically to his body is something that was legal at the time, and many, many, many other players did similar. The difference is that IMO, what Bonds did added 20-50 home runs to his already great total. And I'm not sure he makes the record without that extra 20-50. And baseball is a game of stats and records, beyond the fun.

It's ludicrous to think that Bonds did not indulge. Look no further than the guy sitting in prison, for no reason other than protecting Bonds from perjuring himself.

Just to play devil's advocate.

Let's say it's unequivocal Bonds not only took something, but turned his body into a chemistry set. Let's say you believe he was on Stanozolol, Nandrolone and any other of the myriad testosterone boosters that pump you up.

Now, let's also say that you believe that the devil is in the details, that there's existing proof out there, that Bonds was juicing from 1999-2002 as alleged.

One more step, let's say that Bonds did juice, that everything that happened was because of 'roids. Bonds has had 2 serious injuries that some could argue are the result of steroids. He missed 60 games in '99 and 140ish games in 2005. Let's just pretend he hits to his career averages those years, he cost himself 46 homeruns from those two seasons. And if you say he duplicates his past season, he cost himself 43 homeruns. And if you play the "on pace game" he cost himself around 30 homeruns in 1999 alone.

So, it's quite easy to make the argument steroid use "negated" any perceived added production.

Even if bonds did or didn't use steroids its not fair to discount his record. I think he used steroids but the record should still be celebrated because he is a talented athlete and one of the games greatest hitters. It takes more than muscle to hit 755 homers. If you look at his numbers steroids may have even hurt his career, he was a very consistent home run hitter and then he got all those leg injuries. The real person though that is celebrated these past couple weeks is Hank Aaron. Hank got to 755 without any help and was racially harassed his whole career.

The only problem he never had that type of power till McGwire broke the record after which Bonds made a deliberate effort to cheat and increase his power output. There lies the difference between Big Mac and Bonds. McGwire did what he did to heal faster while Bonds did it to cheat on his performance and hit Homers

anyone else not getting much sleep these days cause they've been stayin up past 1:00 AM to watch Giants games?

Ive been draggin a** lately.

I had been going to bed at 2 and waking up at noon, but i'm afraid two a days will change all that

I think i'm going to stay up for one at bat a night, maybe two if it's a fast paced game

Bonds had .600+ slugging seasons 7 times before 2000.

I would be so pumped if he deposits the first pitch he sees tonight into McCovey Cove.
