Last year, he was very very close to hitting 715 @ Pro Player (hit it on the Sunday before the Monday Marlins home-stand) and there were like 8,000 people there, for an event like that, usually the walk up is minimized by heavy advanced sale. If he comes into town within shouting distance (as I suspect he will) I'd be SHOCKED to see more than 22,000 people there

Its not even the record 755 is the record, I am sure it will be much higher than an average crowd if he comes one away. I remember in 98 when Mcquire came to pro player when he was on his pace and the stadium was packed. The marlins drew 118,000 for a mid week 3 game series despited being almost 50 games under. The next night against montreal they drew 15,000. I think we would see big crowds (atleast over 22,000) if he comes in at 754.

June 28, 200719 yr it's a moot point. I really can't see him hitting it on the road, the people in charge of this don't want that happenning. Unless he's in the middle of a long road trip, I can't see them letting him sniff it on the road. I definitely feel like they'd sit him out a whole series if they had to if they were not in the hunt for anything.

I dont think that happens. If anything everyone will sit in the outfield and leave the seats behind home play vacant. With the chance of a million dollar ball landing in the outfield, you will see people show up even if their only intent is to catch a $$$ ball.
July 2, 200719 yr A lot of Bonds hate in this thread. Start a hate thread and leave this one alone. In fairness, you can't talk about Bonds in a vacuum. He is a polarizing player and his legacy is what it is. You have to take the good with the bad. When people talk about Ruth, they talk about his penchant for booze, cigars, and hot dogs about as much as his ability to hit homeruns at a clip unseen in the sport prior to his arrival. When people talk about Cobb, his numerous achievements on the field are almost eclipsed by his reputation for dirty play, racism, and all around bad attitude. I think Bonds will end up in his own category; respected for his hitting, disliked for his personality, despised for being the poster-child for steroids. To me, it was not only unsurprising but inevitable that Bonds haterade would spill out into a thread like this. The two go hand-in-hand.
