May 8, 200719 yr Another 6 spot from a starter, another abysmal K showing from this "vaunted" offense against a good pitcher. We run it up big time on bad pitching, but we're seriously unable to do anything consistent, like make a pitcher work, unless it's just running it to 2-2 before the strikeout.
May 8, 200719 yr The beauty is, we have no idea what goes on behind the scenes, what suggestions the coaches make, how much they meddle in what hitters are doing, etc. Who knows, maybe they're trying, just the guys aren't getting the jobs done on the field.

It's not like one or two players are struggling, the rotation is among the worst in baseball in every imaginable category and the offense is on pace for historic K numbers and the puffed up stats are very misleading.

I understand, but with all the good they did last year, shouldn't we wait a little more than one month of the season before jumping on them?
May 8, 200719 yr Maybe we're just not that good. That's what I was thinking.....the last few series, we've come upon games against teams that may be simply better than us.
May 8, 200719 yr Doing some quick mathematics, at the current pace (not including tonight's result) the Marlins offense will set the all-time strike out record this season with 1,409. http://mlb.mlb.com/stats/historical/team_s...p;sortByStat=SO On the pitching side, they are on pace to walk 713 batters for the season, which would tie them with the '61 Angels for 25th worst all-time BB total by a team. The 1998 Marlins are 24th on the list. http://mlb.mlb.com/stats/historical/team_s...p;sortByStat=BB

So...what are you saying? You think we should fire both Presley and Kranitz?
May 8, 200719 yr Author I do think, aside from Julio, the bullpen has been better than at least I expected. I agree with that.
May 8, 200719 yr First we fire the manager of the year then we fire the hitting coach of the best hitting team in the Majors. What must the baseball world think of us crazy Marlins? :lol
May 8, 200719 yr Author First we fire the manager of the year then we fire the hitting coach of the best hitting team in the Majors. What must the baseball world think of us crazy Marlins? :lol I was one of like 4 pro Girardi people here. All I'm saying is that the offense looks unprepared out there more times than not. We've been no-hit into the 6th inning 3 times this year and twice into the 7th. We're on pace for historic K numbers and aside from Hanley and Miggy and Hammer, none of our guys have made that adjustment, and in the case of Olivo and Uggla, they've been in a funk since the ASB last year. Kranitz had a mixed bag last season with a bad bullpen and a good rotation, now the scenario is reversed. I'm not saying fire all of them, but this team is sucking big time...a lot worse than the numbers indicated, and the team hasn't shown itself to be afraid of making moves on the week of Mother's Day.
May 8, 200719 yr Presley got fired? Or am I reading something wrong? Just a suggestion at this point, I believe.
May 8, 200719 yr Pressley just may be worse than Bill Robinson, but then Pressly is dealing with a bunch of youngsters. The offense is good because of the talent alone.

Even I'm not sure I'd go that far, but they sure are just getting by on solely talent right now. They seem beyond unprepared.
May 8, 200719 yr Ok, so we got two runs in two games against two of the best pitchers in the National League. Of course, people forget Olsen's improvement from the beginning, the bullpen, and the fact that the lineup we have been trotting out there isn't our best lineup due to injuries. If this was late June and still like this than start calling for the heads.
May 8, 200719 yr Fantasy statements and half-truths passed off as fact still remain what they are, fantasies and half-truths, regardless of how often they are repeated. Ignoring the role injuries have played on this team invalidates anything said in the absense of that recognition. And blaming coaches with decades of success in the game for the shortcomings of a shorthanded team populated by walking wounded is not only foolish, it's plain wrong and probably just meant to be spiteful. Unlike their previous boss who couldn't even win a job in Washington or his beloved Chicago so bereft of social skills and integrity was he, Kranitz and Presley would have no problem finding employment were the Marlins to make them available. It's just more of the same daily rage against the organization finding problems where there aren't ones (not that there aren't problems) just to find something new each day to complain about. Jacobs has hit a soft patch after he and Willingham carried the team quite a way. Eight more hits in his thirty game season makes Uggla a .300 hitter. Eight hits. Four more hits and Miguel Olivo is batting almost .285. Four lousy stinkin' hits. Don't tell me Presley is a failure when 12 hits turns around the seasons of not one but two players. sh*t happens, defenses make plays they didn't last season, line drives that fell last season get hit right at someone. Yes this is a team that strikes out far too much but this also a team that offensively was until about a week ago among the leaders if not the leader in a half dozen offensive categories. This is a game where failing at the plate two out of three times earns you superstar status. Even Barry Bonds hasn't done that well, he's a career .299 hitter but I don't think too many think his hitting coach ought to be fired. That is except some clown in the 104th row who's still mad they moved out of Candlestick where his seats used to cost him $3.00.

Pressley deserves a pass because of injuries? You mean, the injury to the one player you would be content to toss on the scrap heap because of his unrealized potential in Hermida? Or the injury that opened up playing time for your demi-God Alfredo Amezaga? Last I checked, all of the players you feel are of consequence to the lineup are in there everyday. And my point still remains, the numbers are not a fair indication of the offense's "average" production. They are so high in some categories because they run it up there against bad pitchers. Over our first 31 games we average 5.2 runs per game, but have equaled or exceeded that total in less than half of our games. To me, that's very indicative of a high/low offense.
