May 11, 200719 yr Just heard on QAM that Henry the VIII put on the 15 day DL with shoulder tendinitis-this is all the fault of that Yankee Director of Performance Enhancement.
May 11, 200719 yr o O that means Julio will be closing....GOD HELP US!!!! Doubt it. I would think either Tank, Lindstrom, or Gregg would get a shot before Julio...at least until Julio throws a few more scoreless innings.
May 11, 200719 yr Author It was retroactive to May 9 for Henry. Thanks for correcting the topic heading.
May 11, 200719 yr This afternoon, the Marlins placed closer Henry Owens on the 15 day DL with shoulder tendonitis in his pitching arm. So far this season, Owens has been awesome out of the bullpen. In 18.1 innings, he had a 1.96era, a 1.25whip and a .225 batting average against. He also has a 2-0 record and has saved 4 ball games. Being recalled from AAA Albuquerque is outfielder John Gall. The 29 year old was hitting .309/.358/.496 with 3 homeruns in 127 at bats so far this season. Gall played the last 2 seasons in the St. Louis organization. His career line in the majors is .265/.275/.250 with 2 homeruns in 49 at bats. In over 3,000 minor league at bats, Gall is hitting .296/.354/.456 with 90 homeruns and 452 driven in. With the closer spot now vacant the Marlins have a few options. The easy choice would be fireballer Matt Lindstrom. He has been terrific this season with a 2.51era and .212baa in 14.1 innings of work this season. Taylor Tankersley could be an option too with his 2.70era, 1.10whip, and .200baa. There is also Jorge Julio who was brought in during Spring Training to be the closer but that backfired in a big way, as he blew 2 saves and lost 2 games in just a few innings of work. He looked good in his last outing on May 7th, and don't be surprised to see him in the 9th inning. Just make sure you have plenty of Maalox around. Other choices could be Renyel Pinto, Lee Gardner and Kevin Gregg.

May 11, 200719 yr Manager Fredi Gonzalez said that Owens' hold on the closer's job is not permanent, with the return of Jorge Julio from the DL, the Palm Beach Post reports. Spin: Julio pitched two hitless innings on Monday, but will remain working non-save situations until Gonzalez feels comfortable giving him a more significant role. While there is no timetable for a shift in the bullpen hierarchy, Owens' hold on the job doesn't appear to be as strong as one would think. Rotowire from 2 days ago. Dont be surprised if Julio is anointed the new closer now that Owens is on the DL.
May 11, 200719 yr Henry. Get well very soon. Hopefully the Marlins will lead every game by 4 or more runs so we dont have to think about the closers job.
May 11, 200719 yr These injuries are ridiculous. As is the thought of putting Julio back in as closer. We have a bullpen loaded with ERAs of 3.00 or lower...6 guys if you include Owens. But, hey, let's put the guy with a 14.09 ERA back in the job...those two innings he pitched in that blowout loss were mind-blowing.
May 11, 200719 yr well that blows. and does this mean that Gall would block Hermida at least for a few more days?
May 11, 200719 yr well that blows. and does this mean that Gall would block Hermida at least for a few more days? Doubt it, Abercrombie is still on the roster along with Jason Wood. I think they would be moved out if Hermida was ready.
May 11, 200719 yr the amazing thing, which really says a lot about the potential of this team, is we're getting along pretty well, even with the injuries.
May 11, 200719 yr Author Henry. Get well very soon. Hopefully the Marlins will lead every game by 4 or more runs so we dont have to think about the closers job. With Julio, that is not enough
May 11, 200719 yr Why would the team call up Gall, another position player, when the bullpen has already been overworked this season?
May 11, 200719 yr Why would the team call up Gall, another position player, when the bullpen has already been overworked this season? I am guessing because Jeremy is going to be coming back soon. If we brought up a pitcher, a position player (Borch, Reggie etc) would leave when Jeremy came off the DL. In this case we just have to send Gall back to the minors when Jerms comes back. I am not sure if this is the case or not.
