Game Thoughts - June 28th

Featured Replies

I really think Treanor should be catching Olsen again, he did it last year and it produced good results. It also helps out that Treanor is hitting good right now.

Despite the game being far closer than it should have, there were quite a few positives coming from it:

-Everyone with the exception of Hermida contributed at the plate, especially the back of the order.

-Olsen looked great through six innings despite what the box score may indicate

-Gregg bounced back strong from his 2 HR blunder two nights ago

Was the game pretty? No. But there were enough positives to come from it that I'm happy with it.

Treanor should be our primary catcher until we get somebody better. He is a better catcher than Olivo, and will give a similar OPS, and a superior OBP, if given the ABs.

I didn't watch the game but I have a hard time believing someone who allowed 5 ER, 7 hits and 2 BBs in 6 innings had a great game. It looks like the offense once again bailed out poor pitching.

Another time stats don't tell the whole story. He pitched a nice game. K'd the first 5 he faced (a team record). Kept his cool during the game until the meltdown in the 7th. The pen let him down after he was pulled, namely Lindstrom.

The pen is not going to be perfect, but they did allow 5 runs which is a lot. Olsen pitched really well, but they allowed the two inherited runners to score, and that's why his line looks messed up. Hopefully he can keep it up. He's been pitching better as of late.

I think some of you are missing what Polo is implying: It doesnt matter that he K'd 5 ppl in a row. An out is essentially an out (except for instances when a guy is getting rocked but the balls are hit right at someone).

He had another meltdown (this time in the 7th and not the 4th). It was not his fault though that he was left out there so long. Thats the manager's blunder.

He pitched a good game, NOT a great game. His stat line says so.

In regards to pitching, a strikeout is not just another out, because a strikeout (along with HR allowed, and walks allowed) are truly the only thing a pitcher has full control over. Once the ball is put in play on a pitcher, he has almost no control over where it goes.

You bring up a good point. My main point was basically, he did not have a great game. There's a lot of Olsen fellating going on here but his stat line begs to differ.

Totally off topic but I just love watchin Olsen hit. I think he's batting like .210 for his career! He is a total grinder in the box.
