To be quite honest, Lowell might be our worst fielder. I cant think of any of our starters who I would say is worse. But, that doesnt mean hes a bad fielder. I think hes above average as a third basmean. It just speaks to how good our defense overall is.

He is the 2nd best 3rd baseman in this league...

I didnt mean to put down Lowell as a third baseman, he could be the 2nd best. I was replying to the last post that said Lowell was our best fielder. He could be the 2nd best in the league and still be the worst of our fielders, which is a very good thing.

 

On another note, if you needed some cheering up after our first series, look at the Braves-they got demolished by the Expos in Atlanta. The Expos swept the series, outscoring the Braves 17-2, shutting them out twice.

I cannot think of any other third baseman in the league as good as lowell.....

My thoughts on Lowell: I'm sick of looking at his errant throws - I say trade him now and get something for him - we will lose him anyway at the end of the season. Bring in Cabrera. I'm over this sloppy play. It's not like he is a franchise player or something - he will be a gonner in 6 months - see ya.

hey ramp, i do think lowell is better than castillo deffensively, way better actually. lowell is the only 3rd basemen i've never seen turn his face from a ball hit to him, and you know how hot the hot corner really is. the only critique on lowell is that he's range is not that great, but those hands of his are swift. He picks up everything and makes it look so easily, the guy is a beast. i've seen castillo turn his face from balls at second base, come on, what's that. castillo is a good fielder, but i don't really see him as great as some do, i don't think he has such great hands. i mean, he's abover average, but not as good as you would think he is with all the props he gets for his defense. the only infielder other than pudge that i would consider better than lowell is alex gonzalez, the boy can't hit but has one of the best pair of hands i've ever seen.

Bottom line is they've got a very very good infield. Defensively AND offensively I think it's very solid. Only weak spot is Alex's hitting.
