July 24, 200718 yr We've had credit unions like forever but after my wallet and checkbook got stolen in December, we had a hard time fixing everything. We couldn't close the account because I had other outstanding checks but their brillian suggestion was to put a stop payment on all the check numbers in that succession. Then I had to explain to the companies whose checks were stopped why it was stopped instead of reported as stolen. Anyways------ We went with Wachovia and I couldn't be happier. We even have an equity line of credit with them and I couldn't be more satisfied with their customer service or their branch hours. They have Saturday hours and it's very convienent. Bank of America should be ashamed of themselves. They rip you off and you can't seem to find anyone who will help resolve your issue.

FSU Credit Union and the Suncoast Schools Credit Union (I live in Lee County which is one of the districts involved....goes from Naples up to Crystal River) were getting some looks from me, esp. since credit unions have really nice ATM rights including Publix usage which SunTrust (outside of Georgians) does not. But the lack of features in terms of modern online bill pay (most use ancient systems for online banking or GASP Quicken) and security guarantees for stolen checks/cards don't make me easy. But CUs are modernizing quick from what I hear....so maybe. Which credit union did you use? My parents still have their accounts at Dade County Federal Credit Union, but those don't get much use anymore since they retired.

This is something that has been rumored for at least 20 years now, and occassionally the rumors are stronger than other times......but has there been some story you've read that makes you think it's more than a strong rumor this time?

The rumors are always there, but there seems to be a strong feeling about it since SunTrust sold some Coca-Cola shares and will decide soon what to do with the rest of their Coca-Cola stock. They could be getting cash in hand to buy something....or improving stock value to avoid a buyout....but either way it seems odd. SunTrust is a nice bank, but if they get bought out I would consider leaving.

Personally I rather put my money in a decent money market account and get nearly as much as on a CD without tying up the money. If you have any questions on CDs let me know, I just spent a whole summer learning about this stuff.

August 7, 200718 yr Stay away from Fifth/Third. They will let you overdraw, and instead of suspending your cards use or notifying you, will let you continue to overdraw for an additional 4 days to a week. I stopped in and got coffee every day before work, and all said I had only overdrafted $10...but for that $10 I had $144 in overdraft fees.

FDIC Insured 2. 6.01% APY 3. Free ATMs Nationwide (they reimburse ATM fees for ATM usage at the end of the month) 4. No Minimum Balance 5. No Monthly Fees Monthly Requirements: These are to keep the interest from going to 0.51% APY and keep ATM refunds for the month... 1. 10 Check Card Transactions (easy for me since I do around 4 a day with SunTrust) 2. 1 Direct Deposit or Pre-Authorized Electronic Payment (I use SunTrust Bill Pay...just need to find 1 bill to set for the same amount each month) 3. Online E-Statements (I already do this at SunTrust...so no problemo!)
August 7, 200718 yr I'm with TD BankNorth. Honestly, I'd switch to Rockland Savings & Loan because they treat me a lot better when it comes to getting alone. Unfortunately, they only have two locations that I know of, and with my in various locations, I can't always get to RS&L, so I stick with TD for the convenience that they are in most every town.
