Riding a bit of momentum, the Marlins head to Philadelphia with a modest two-game win streak.

 

Considering how their luck has been of late, finishing up a homestand at 3-3 and taking two of three from Houston is something they hope to build upon.

 

Off on Monday, the Marlins look to continue working their way back to the .500 mark.

 

Rookie Rick VandenHurk (3-2, 6.75 ERA) takes the mound in the first game of the series. This will be the right-hander's first appearance against the Phillies.

 

On the road, VandenHurk is 2-0 with a 6.05 ERA in four games with three starts.

 

Initially, VandenHurk was slated to pitch on Wednesday. But he and the rest of the rotation were pushed up a day because Byung-Hyun Kim was claimed off waivers by Arizona on Friday. Kim was originally in line to make Tuesday's start.

 

The Marlins' offense will look to figure out veteran Jamie Moyer.

 

The Marlins are expecting Miguel Cabrera, who was hit with a pitch just above the left elbow on Sunday, to be in the starting lineup on Tuesday. And catcher Matt Treanor, who had a collision at home plate while running the bases on Sunday, should also be ready to go.

 

Moyer has baffled the Marlins in both of his starts against them this season, going 2-0 with a 1.29 ERA. On April 29 at Philadelphia, the veteran lefty had a no-hit bid broken up on Cabrera's two-out double in the seventh inning.

 

Pitching matchup

FLA: RHP Rick VandenHurk (3-2, 6.75 ERA)

VandenHurk threw 4 1/3 innings in his last outing and was in line for the win, but he didn't complete the necessary five innings. VandenHurk has now had three straight no-decisions. Counting 65 2/3 innings in the Minor Leagues this season, the right-hander has logged 115 total frames in 2007.

 

PHI: LHP Jamie Moyer (9-8, 4.84 ERA)

Moyer lost out on his bid for win No. 10 in his last start when he allowed four runs to the Cubs over three innings. He held the Cubs scoreless for the next two innings, and the Phillies took him off the hook for the loss with a fifth-inning rally. Moyer won his two starts prior to that.

 

Player to watch

Phillies slugger Ryan Howard has a career average of .366 against the Marlins in 36 games with 11 home runs and 29 RBIs. This season, however, Howard is just 5-for-20 (.250) with one double and two RBIs off Florida pitching.
