Ironman idiot says Scotty O "not welcome" if convicted...

Im guessing samething goes for Willis. Right? his problem has'nt been resolved from what I remember.

Willis = Misdemeanor

Olsen = 2 Felony's and a misdemeanor

There is a difference.

Just saying.

He explained that the organization has a civic responsibility to field a team the community can be proud of (i.e. no criminal offenders).

A DUI is'nt something to be proud of. If you do something to one player you gotta do the same to the other.

Just saying.

Ralph, your a smart guy.

I didnt say a DUI was something to be proud of.

Im simply saying there is a vast difference between a misdemeanor charge and a misdemeanor charge accompanied by 2 felony charges. This isnt my personal opinion, its the opinion of the people that drew up the the state statutes that define Florida criminal law.

In summary, there is a big difference between what Willis did and what Olsen did.

Neither one will see jail time, they both refused to blow, and that's the crux of the case in a DUI.

However an "acceptable behavior policy" should not see one reprimanded and one let off the hook, IMO, both were reprehensible actions.

Not to mention the overall attitude of the two, and the other strikes Olsen has against him.

I just don't think you can compare the two in this situation. One is part of a pattern of poor behavior and another is, at this point, a single mis-step.

I'm not endorsing what Samson says/thinks, but like I said, I don't think you can fairly compare the two situations.

Not sure why you trying to make their two respective arrests seem like one in the same.

Dontrelle got charged with DUI.

Scott got charged with DUI, Fleeing and Eluding (felony in the eyes of the law) and Resisting Arrest With Violence (another felony in the eyes of the law).

Somewhere in this thread I wrote that I'm not saying that what Olsen did was worse than Willis. I just wanted to point out that if one player gets punished the other should too. Personally, I dont care if either gets punished just that they play fair. Oh and the DUI proud stuff I was talking the idiot (Samson) not you.

Man, the irrational hatred of Samson some of you guys have is quite ridiculous. You'd think the guy was advocating the mass slaughter and consumption of babies, or something.

I wouldn't be surprised.

I dislike the man for many reasons. But this is just another case where he would have been better off keeping his mouth shut. Mainly because it's not his decision to make. To me it just continues to show he is nothing more than a hypocritical, self rightous ass. And I'm beginning to think he dosen't carry much weight at all around the front office. I thought he would be gone at the start of this season, that he was kept around last year simply so he could keep his family living the life style they are accustmed to while he was prepping for that Iron Man thing. Loria taking care of his "family" type thing. And it wouldn't surprise me a bit if this is his last year with the team. Too bad they can't steroid test club presidents.

What does surprise me is that Dan, and all the others here commenting on Willis, have omitted. Jeff Allison. Need I say more on that?

Yeah, he should've kept his mouth shut on this. He didn't. Not an issue. He was asked a question, he answered it. Not the end of the world, guys.

Any reason to pounce on a guy we don't like, I guess..

And thus, that would be the only reason to be critical of someone in a position of authority who has embarrassed that position continuously? Mass slaughter or else to not be critical? I guess it is time to cancel all tv talk shows, radio shows, newspapers etc because you should only have an opinion or criticism of someone if they advocate murder. You just do not understand the whole basis behind a forum and discussion. It is not just to suit your rational for what someone wants to be discuss. Samson is and and has been a total jerk and he is fully worthy of the criticism.

I can say with pretty big certainty that Dan LeBatard probably has little to no clue who Jeff Allison is.

That said, can we at least get the full quote of what Samson said before he crucify the guy? I was listening to the show when Samson was on. Samson said that the decision of what to do with Scott Olsen is not completely in his hands to make, and that if he was convicted it would be for him, Beinfest, and Loria to decide. He said that if it was up to him and Olsen gets convicted, Olsen would be gone. However, Dan LeBatard said, "You know you're getting overruled in that situation David. Right?" and Samson agreed saying, "I'd say there's about an 80% chance I get overruled."

Let's take the comments for what their worth. A man stating how he'd make a decision he's not able to make on his own if he was able to make it on his own. I don't see much hypocrisy in that. If anything he seemed pretty consistent because he was also asked about the Michael Vick situation (LeBatard was asking all his guests) and whether Vick would play football again. Samson then went on to say that some owner would probably give him a second chance. He said it was an unfortunate aspect of sports that talent earns you second chances and that things shouldn't be that way.

We may disagree with the guy's opinion, but let's frame the discussion properly and not assume he's speaking on behalf of the entire organization. I mean, the guy comes on the LeBatard Show each week to talk about movies. Is it the official position of the Marlins that The Simpsons isn't funny? I certainly hope not.

ok, its not a huge problem. but he wasn't asked if olsen would be welcome even if he's convicted. he came up with all of that garbage by himself, pulling it out of Josh Willingham's ass. he wasn't asked because no one would ever believe the president of a team would hang a player out to dry like that. the bottom line is this moron continues to exhibit totally unprofessional behavior and needs to go before 08. maybe loria's daughter will divorce him!!

I'm still amazed that everyone does not appreciate Samson's role with the team. It is not as "president." That's simply a title. It's as "bad cop" to Loria's "god cop." His job is to make Loria look great. Samson can be the hard a$$, and Loria can swoop in and say "well, our team is all about second chances - let's keep him and see if we can help him turn things around." This has been going on forever, with the stadium issue, roster moves, etc. Everything Samson says has to be taken with a grain of salt, knowing that it is his job to say things Loria can't say. Loria has never once uttered the word "fiscal (in)sanity", or "relocation." It doesn't mean he's not thinking it, but he's the owner - and he simply can't go on record on certain issues, particularly when it is a no-win situation. For example, the Ichiro contract. Loria didn't say a word. Why?? Well, how about another owner pointing out that Loria has turned the economics of baseball on its head by literally pocketing revenue sharing, rather than spending it on the ballclub. I'm fairly certain some owners think that's a lot worse than the Mariners overpaying some of their players (um...Sexson and Beltre anyone?).

He makes Loria look like an idiot for keeping him on the payroll. Loria is not considered by most people as somehow independent of his employees. He's responsible for--and associated with--all of them. Bad employees make their bosses look bad, not good. So your assessment of the situation doesn't really agree with mine.

You hear that sound? Thats the sound of the point rushing by your head. Try and wave to it next time it whizzes past you, at least.

Olsen did more than just refuse to blow. He committed two felonies. But I do agree with the original poster. How the hell can you go on a radio station and throw one of your own players under the bus?

He's not married to Loria's daughter. He is the son of Loria's ex-wife.

Miami Herald

OLSEN TROUBLES

The Marlins have other problems: Specifically what to do if pitcher Scott Olsen is convicted of charges of DUI and resisting arrest.

The Marlins haven't talked much about Olsen since his July 21 arrest, but Marlins president David Samson said, as far as he was concerned, if Olsen was convicted, he would not be welcomed back to the team.

''He is in therapy, behavioral therapy, trying to deal with his anger issues,'' Samson told The Miami Herald's Dan Le Batard on Le Batard's radio show on 790 The Ticket. ``We have got to let the legal system play out. We are getting him help and that is what is most important.

``We do not condone what he did. If we have someone on our team who is convicted, that person would certainly not be welcome any longer.''

Samson said any decision would have to be discussed with general manager Admin Beinfest and owner Jeffrey Loria.

''If I [had] the only say, yes, that is certainly where I am and I will try to convince Admin and our owner, Jeffrey, to get there, too,'' Samson said. ``I think we have to set an example in our community, and people who are convicted of those types of crimes, I really would prefer them not to be on the team.''

In the interview, Samson didn't address Dontrelle Willis, who was arrested and charged with DUI in December. Willis has yet to stand trial.

Samson said the Marlins are waiting for the legal process to run its course, and pointed out the difference between the two situations.

''The Marlins are taking the charges very seriously,'' Samson said by phone from Toronto on Wednesday night. ``There is a felony charge in the Olsen case and not in the Willis case. And that is a significant difference.''

Incidentally, there was also a blurb in the Herald recently saying Olsen had gained some respect among teammates by apologizing individually to them.

And how long do you say you have been a Marlin's fan? I would have a hard time myself choosing between Hitler and Samson

Then you're a f***ing moron.
