September 7, 200718 yr I'm not surprised by the move, I was more surprised when they called Linden up after they DFA'ed him earlier this year, right now the roster sits a 39 so there is room for one more of those AAA guys, I'd rather see Seabol or Pascucci.
September 7, 200718 yr With Borchard, we know what we have, a spot on the 40 man (and an open spot at that) is more valuable.
September 7, 200718 yr Joe Borchard will have an opportunity to win a spot with us or someone else next spring, or perhaps overseas, but there is no rush to put him on the the 40 man roster even if it means we lose him in the upcoming Rule 5 draft (anyone know if he's eligible???). He's a good ballplayer but unfortunately not good enough, the story of so many players with talent but not the extraordinary skills needed to stick in the major leagues.

He's a good ballplayer but unfortunately not good enough, the story of so many players with talent but not the extraordinary skills needed to stick in the major leagues. Very well said. Borchard is exactly the same guy most of his current bashers were wanting to start in CF during ST. Even while those of us that actually liked the guy said he wasn't a legitimate CFer or even a legitimate every day OFer. I have a soft spot for Joe. Only because he was a Stanford QB and I am a long time Denver Broncos fan. No other reason. I wish him well where ever he may end up. I do believe he will be a good bench player someplace because of his work ethic and attitude.

I mean the guy did have a bad season, right from the start as I recall, but it's not as though he has ever gotten that much regular playing time to ever sort out his issues. Last season he has the highest OPS of any OF not named Willingham, even moreso vs RHP, making him (from an offensive POV) the best option at the time IMO to platoon w/ Cody.

Shut up, Joe Borchard is the worst player ever, strikeouts suck, he's the reason we suck this year, etc.
September 9, 200718 yr Shut up, Joe Borchard is the worst player ever, strikeouts suck, he's the reason we suck this year, etc. Shouldn't you be spending this time posting .291 a hundred more times in the thread about Pudge? I mean that is really important.

I mean that is really important. I personally didn't think he was that bad. He hit some clutch bombs for us last year if I recall. He just never got much of a chance this year. Not saying he should be in CF but he is not as bad as he is made out. What has Linden done that makes him more deserving of the 4th-5th OF spot?

Every day player is something else. As long as it's not CF. He plays a decent RF, IMO. But, from the club's POV, no one is going to take that field away from Jeremy and his sweet swing. And once Jeremy started showing off that cannon of an arm I can see why the club wants him out there. Joe would never be more than a bench player for us. And I don't believe we have the room on the bench for him. You may be right in that if he were an every day player he could work the kinks out and be a productive player. I think it is in his best interests to move on. As I said, I like the guy and wish him the best.

September 9, 200718 yr Joe Borchard days as a Marlin are done. Hermida and Willy are our corner Outflielders and Cody is our best backup . CF as always is not settled but Borchard isn't a CF nor he is a reliable Outfielder off the bench. Maybe we should bring in Joe Dillon...wait...He is a Brewer now and hitting close to .400. Borchard had his chance maybe there is a place for him in the Mexican Summer League
September 9, 200718 yr Borchard > Dillon. If you think Dillon's gonna keep up anything like the line he has you are a fool. Dillon left us to play in Japan. Screw him.

From what I can see Dillon is doing much better than Borchard at this moment. Dillon is colecting a major league paycheck right now while Joe Borchard is looking at the Sunday Funnies
