September 29, 200719 yr The Baseball Gods cannot say no to an 80 year old, 5 foot even senior citizen in a Marlins jersey. Lets hope it stays like that for a few more days. :mischief
September 29, 200719 yr From MetsBlog.com... "?the moment of truth came in the seventh, with the Mets down by three, Luis Castillo at third, David Wright at the plate, the crowd on its feet, screaming, believing, doing its best to will this team to a win, and the tying run at the plate, both Carlos Beltran and Moises Alou struck out to end the rally?the crowd went silent, in absolute disbelief?to add insult to injury, Matt Lindstrom shut them down?i would love to know what was running through Omar Minaya?s mind at the time?ouch?" And from our "friend" Luis Castillo via tonight's Sun-Sentinel... Castillo makes his home in Plantation, but a return is unlikely, even if the Marlins trade Dan Uggla. Castillo said he will have his right knee cleaned up in the offseason. Once he undergoes that procedure, Castillo, 31, anticipates being completely healthy and ready for at least three more seasons. "That's my home," Castillo said, with a smile, at the notion of putting on a Marlins uniform again. "There are a lot of teams that need a starting second baseman. I don't want to go to a bad team." Enjoy the off-season Luis, you might want to schedule that surgery for next week.

September 29, 200719 yr wow i do not like that quote by luis. the fact that if starting pitching was healthy would have made this team at least a .500 club. with some starting pitching coming back and more pitchers being major league ready according to this organization standards which i believe are alot lower than other clubs for pitching IMHO which does seem to work out but i do believe that alot of pitching injuries would be avoided if the club let these pitchers not have huge pitches thrown or innings pitched increases like they do. but the fact that it seems he believes that this team cannot compete next year and let alone be a "bad team" is just ridiculous. look at the bullpen and the line up and the starting pitching can only improve. a willis not under kranitz, olsen cant get much worse, most injured pitchers return (anything is better than nothing), RVH actually has logged some innings and isnt basically 1 years in the minors anymore, volsad and gaby should contribute sometine, the 4A pitchers that never seem to go anywhere (this includes being brought up). its not like this team is not in a position to dominate next year if the club wants them to. Even without signing anyone they could compete. one of baker, treanor, hayes could become a decent starting catcher(not likely treanor but he has enough defense to keep him in the majors). one of the center fielders could step up (not likely but to make this club compete its not even needed. they just need to put someone who can make contact and play defense out there) andino could show up to spring training and be productive and if all else fails use him or AA in center and the other as the utility man. yes i know andino has not played the outfield in pro ball but the point is the club can compete without making any moves. do i think its going to happen? no. i think if they sign a starter to log innings and either a center fielder or catcher to eliminate 1 of the huge holes they will compete. even with just a starter that can log 7 decent innings a game the team would be fine. imagine if the bullpen had not been used as much as it was this year, it could have been even better with some occassional rest

Louie deserves more money than we will give him and this is currently a bad team. We show potential, but you can't buy as much as a stick of gum with that.

September 29, 200719 yr The Mets are an embarrassment to the colors orange and blue. It doesn't make beating them any less awesome, though.
September 29, 200719 yr What's this talk of trading Uggla? Did I miss something? I wasn't aware we really had a 2nd baseman to replace him.

So we'll probably fall just ever so short next year. < SIGH > :banghead
September 29, 200719 yr gimme Uggla Agreed. Although I am a huge Castillo fan, I have to agree. Louis isn't the player he once was. He's still great but just not what we need this off season. Uggla is continuing to improve his defense and is much better at the plate than his current average shows. Spend the $$$ where we need it the most. At this particular time it would still be catcher and CF. But if Alejandro can show he can hit that off speed crap then maybe just catcher. And I'm still holding out hope against all odds to trade for Salty. Kinda like holding out hope against all odds for the Hialeah site, but...
