October 15, 200718 yr Why do you say y'all? Miami is a lot of things, but it's also in "The South". Hence, we say "y'all". Why do you talk about Miami and say "we" when you're from Orlando? You must have never been to Miami if you consider it part of the South. I'd be surprised if you can even find it on a map after a comment like that.
October 15, 200718 yr I don't I've seen a confederate flag in Miami-Dade County not more than 3-4 times. The confederate flag is what constitutes whether a place is part of the 'south'? I agree with what you guys are saying but that is a retarded 'benchmark'. Well, in this case it goes with the image the guy posted IMO
October 15, 200718 yr The confederate battle flag isn't southern, it's confederate. Thank you. I don't have a problem with the confederate flag for a variety of reasons. As someone who has lived in the 'south' for all but 5 years of my life (Ohio, Tampa) I do have a problem with someone using the Confederate flag as an indicator of what is or isn't the south or to characterize the area.
October 15, 200718 yr Never been to Miami, have you? We are not part of the South and we most definitely do not associate ourselves with that loser rag called the Confederate flag. There are neighborhoods in the greater Miami area that are still comprised of a majority of white Americans and "y'all" is most definitely used. Down by your parts I'd be shocked to hear anything but 'oye brode'.
October 15, 200718 yr It's not Greater Miami, but I'm from a white majority part of South Florida and ya'll isn't used. However, terms like "ov vey", "meshugine" and "guyim" are. :mischief
October 15, 200718 yr Funny how two area within miles of each other can be so different. I don't I've ever spoken to someone who used Yiddish terms and phrases when they speak. Unless of course you were kidding.

Dade County? for the record Im from a Cuban family and i live in Miami Lakes and ive lived in south florida my whole life except for maybe 4 years when i was a kid. i really dont have any white friends that i hangout with except for one dude. me and his friends are mostly either black(carribean/american) or spanish and i work at a very latin company where if you dont speak spanish your f***ed. im really never around gringos that much, especially the Southern ones and i hear yall all the time so im not really sure why its being considered a white southern term.
October 15, 200718 yr Second Person, Plural English: you all or all of you Spanish: ustedes y'all = uds.
October 15, 200718 yr Second Person, Plural English: you all or all of you Spanish: ustedes y'all = uds. Nobody uses uds.
October 16, 200718 yr Wtf so many people use ya'll, why is this even a discussion? I know I'm not from miami per se but in this day and age its not just used by southerners. Its like asking someone why they say 'you guys'...just another term for the same thang.
October 16, 200718 yr so hows the smoking going? :lol I think the distraction and the Chewbacca defenses are helping him keep his mind off his habit.

October 16, 200718 yr I may start smoking again if I lose my ALCS bet. Nah, you can find another habit to pick up from it.
October 16, 200718 yr I was referring to the Cutler Ridge area...hell even Pinecrest. So 'oye brode' = Hialeah? Arguments make me want to smoke.
October 16, 200718 yr :lol I like how you changed the title. Good stuff, this has be the most random thread jacking ever. BTW, I think it has to do with how you say it, more than just saying it. People from the real "south" say it slower "hey yaaaaaaaaaaaa'll", while people down here in Miami or more urban areas say it quicker, almost like yo, as in "whatsup yal"

I have a ton of friends whom most people here would consider 'hicks' and 'rednecks' and it isn't used like that.
October 17, 200718 yr I find myself saying y'all more now that i moved to Richmond.... And I consider people from Richmond to be Yankees. My Dad used to live there back when he was a teenager ( foster child ) He said that everyone down there loved the way he talked and would ask him to repeat stuff because of his southern accent.
