College Football Discussion Week 8

In college sports you can root for as many teams as you want

Its not cool to have more than one favorite college team.

College sports are more personal than pro sports. I will be matriculating at Louisville, but I will never be a Louisville fan. I guess I am just not programmed that way. You acquire a favorite, you stick to that favorite, that 1 favorite, and thats your team. Letting other teams into your original fav teams orbit is just not right.

I never had a favorite team until I got to school. That seems about right to me.

Exactly, and getting to that school is what makes it personal. In a day and a half I will see a couple friends of mine who went to FSU back in Tally for the game Saturday sporting UM jerseys.

Thank god. I wonder how many USF "fans" show up to the next game in Tampa.

Those fans will be rooting for a team with less losses then your beloved Gators...Gonna be pretty funny when USF potentially is ranked ahead of the gators at the end of the season.

My comment was targeted at the nature of their fanbase (which consists 90% of bandwagoners who these past few weeks, out of nowhere, somehow became more cocky and more arrogant than even Ohio State fans last season), not how many losses they have and how many the Gators have.

But good one. *Zing!*

Well said, Spike. I totally agree with everything you just said.

Yeah, and one season in which a team finishes above better programs isnt all that hilarious.

Thank goodness USF went down tonight, I can finally stop hearing the idiotic talk of them being the best team in the state (I don't care how bad the big 3 are) or a top 5 team in the nation. :wacko

You honestly going to say FSU or Miami is better? Florida definately is but can you say the other two are? With a straight face?

Watching tonights game and how stupid USF plays and how bad their offense really can be, I think FSU beats em 6 or 7 times out of 10 this year. But yeah, 4-2 UF, no doubt theyre better!

Yeah, because FSU looked great at Clemson....and beat UAB so badly at home...It's too funny how everyone jumps out of the wood work now on USF when they lose but no one gives them credit on getting to #2

They got to number 2 because the teams in front of them weren't as good as previously thought. They were never the 2nd best team in the nation, this game helps proves that. Yea the WVU win was impressive (sloppy as hell though, and on a neutral field WVU wins 7 out of 10 times).

Auburn lost to a bad Mississippi State team the week after USF beat them, both at home, so I'm not that impressed with it. Solid win, note a "big" win for a great team.

They were overrated and I wouldn't be surprised if they lose again this season, and yes I do think UF is better, UM and FSU are equal or better and on a neutral field they would win the majority of the time. No way of knowing that unless maybe they play in a bowl game (which would be really cool).

Yeah, beating Auburn at home and #5 ranked West Virginia. What a bunch of chumps.

Uh, they aren't chumps and I never said that. I just said they aren't a top 5 team (clearly) and they aren't the best team in the state of Florida (clearly) which everyone was saying last week.

They had played like the best team in Florida. Whether they were or not is a different story.

I don't know man. FAU is in Florida and they didn't play all that much better than them.

umm ok? I still never implied they were a bunch of chumps.

lol pwn3d

nuff said.

I remember when CSU was actually good, and the Colorado-CSU rivalry meant something.

when was CSU good? and the rivalry still means everything to those living out there

The CU-CSU game is one of those games that no matter where each team is ranked each year, it ends up being a pretty solid game. This year for example was a real close one despite the fact that CU was by far the better team. (We're not great granted but still the better team.) Ramp is right though, the game still means everything to the fans and students in the state.

Hopefully that's the last we have to hear about USF this season. A lucky OT win at Auburn and beating an overrated team at home doesn't suddenly transform you from a second tier program to the best team in the nation.

Woot, Duke-FSU will be a blackout game! :cool

Welcome to three weeks ago

I saw something official for the first time today. 3 weeks ago I only heard rumors and Bobby said it was being considered.

I bought a Duke-FSU blackout shirt at the Garnet and Gold store two weeks ago.

I still have the one from last year. Man, I can't afford to keep buying more clothes.

I've a got my nice black Seminoles polo shirt for those occasions. Would be kinda cool to wear a black dress shirt and tie to the game though. :lol

*The Funeral of Duke*

Is Duke also doing to be wearing black? From I understand that was to be the case.

Duke can't wear black. Two teams can't be wearing same color uniforms on the field. They'll probably be in their white uniforms.

Duke doesn't have black football uniforms since they changed styles.

lol @ the USF 'hate'

I love how the Gators, Seminoles fans are threatened by USF....in 10 years they've achieved a lot and somehow your threatened?

lol @ you guys moaning about the great story.

Seriously.

All these adamant opinions/stances/predictions after they lose. I know it is different for me because Coach Leavitt is a family friend, but I don't know how people can hate on the Bulls. It was/is a great story. Those who think that program is going away are absolute clowns.

Florida Fan is starting to annoy me a bit. I like Florida a lot, it is Spurrier's stomping grounds. I have a ton of respect for what that school has done. But newsflash to their fans, you have two losses so far this season. Two. I don't care if those came to '95 Nebraska or '72 USC. They are still two and even though you guys are champs, that will be coming to an end.

You're not as good as you think you are and you definitely aren't good enough to prance around and take shots at teams like no tomorrow.

I don't hate USF's team. I just hate how their "fans" had become so arrogant and cocky after half a season of good play.

Also, we know we aren't as good as our potential yet. This is a rebuilding year. We have inexperienced players. We didn't expect to win a national championship. We expected a few losses. But the fact that both of those losses came down to the wire speaks volumes, considering how young a team this is. And we still have a shot to win the SEC.

Reminding me that the Gators have two losses doesn't hurt my feelings. The future is very bright.

I don't think threatened is the right word. Taken by surprise yes. For the last 30+ years it's been all about FSU, UF, and UM in the state and then all of a sudden, outta nowhere, USF is #2 in the nation and getting all the media love that no one would have ever imagined. Especially fans of the Big 3 schools. I for one, like that USF is having success, but they still have a long way to go to even be compared to FSU, UF or UM. And furthermore, I'd be surprised to see any big time recruits turn down offers from the Big 3 to go to USF, but Levitt has done a good job of finding that talent that FSU, UM, and UF don't want and turning them into playmakers.

There is no love lost for me with South Florida because they used to decimate my Salukis no matter what football field the game was played on.

But until Florida, Miami, and Florida State(Miami and Florida State fans especially need to give it a rest, your programs are only shells of what they used to be and you have no right to talk smack...history means nothing when in the here and now when your teams are crap...and also, Florida State fans, what did you do to earn your preseason ranking that went away in the blink of an eye?) until those 3 programs put the Bulls on the schedule every year.

Ok, two years ago it was seen as a downgrade to put USF on a schedule, but now all of a sudden it's a plus, right? I don't know about Miami, but I'm pretty sure FSU and UF don't have room to schedule any other games for the next 5 years. And please don't try to give me crap about FSU being scared to schedule USF. Bobby Bowden built FSU on a play anyone, anytime, anywhere reputation and has lived up to it since he's been in Tallahassee.

As far as your pre-season ranking question goes, I for one didn't think FSU deserved to be ranked, but obviously the pollsters did. Maybe they thought the new coaching staff could turn things around with the snap of their fingers, I don't know. Last year, FSU hit the lowest of lows as far as their football program is concerned. You have to be retarded if you thought things were gonna change immediately. So far it's almost an exact replica as last season with FSU losing close games that they basically hand over to the other team to win.

From what I understood, FSU was considering doing a neutral site game (ala BAMA in JAX this year where 1 FSU home game would be played at Raymond James Stadium against USF with the Outback Bowl running it and both teams splitting everything 50/50) in Tampa against USF not that long ago. FSU's schedule isn't light either, next year we may have a neutral site game in Atlanta at the Georgia Dome.

Seriously.

Florida fans at least think we're good and our team has done something. Meanwhile, a lot USF fans suddenly think they're the best team in the state, but I guess what else can you expect from people who aren't even smart enough to get into the University of Central Florida.

Don't worry Gators and Seminoles and Canes fans, You guys can reclaim the state spotlight once another one of your criminal players gets arrested. See while you guys headline the police blotter, USF is actually doing it on the field.
