Super Blockbuster Trade Idea

Featured Replies

Marlins trade:

The corpse of Charlie Hough

Red Sox trade:

Dustin Pedroia

Jacoby Ellsbury

Jonathan Papelbon

Josh Beckett

David Ortiz

$100 million for a stadium

RIP Charlie Hough.... ?

that's what I was sayin

what does Fox know that no one else does :o

Taking a look back at the trade rumors that have been swirling around regarding Johan Santana, Dontrelle Willis, and Miguel Cabrera, I believe that I may have come up with a blockbuster trade idea that would involve the Marlins, Twins, and Dodgers. Here is my proposal.

Los Angeles Dodgers Get:

3B Miguel Cabrera

SP Johan Santana

Minnesota Twins Get:

SP Dontrelle Willis

3B Andy LaRoche

Florida Marlins Get:

C Russell Martin

SP Brad Penny

OF Matt Kemp

RP Jonathan Broxton

SP Chad Billingsley

RP Jesse Crain

The Dodgers would gain two young superstars that would give them a great chance at winning a championship, the Twins would gain a cheaper, younger pitcher who could become an ace for the Twins and could help Liriano as well as a top third base prospect, and the Marlins would gain an All-Star starting pitcher (Penny) who will make the same money as Dontrelle will next season, a top notch starting catcher who is only 24, and some signifcant pitching help both in the starting rotation and the bullpen with two potential future closers. Once that takes place, the deal would actually save us money that we could use to replace Cabrera with A-Rod at third base.

How does this trade sound?

Why would the Twins do this? Willis didn't fair to well int he NL and you want to throw him into the AL Central?

While I agree that this trade is never going to happen, for so many reasons, I don't agree that Dontrelle Willis didn't fair too well in the NL. He had a bad year, yes...we all saw that. But Dontrelle is still 68-54, making him the winningest pitcher in Marlins history. Last year was a bad year for him, and the year before his record was 12-12, but his ERA was still 3.87 which is a solid major league ERA, and the year before that he was 22-10 with a 2.63 which is absolutely phenomenal. I will say that his numbers have been on a decline ever since Rick Kranitz took over, given the right situation (a pitching coach who knows how to coach a pitcher like Dontrelle and a catcher who knows how to manage a pitching staff), Dontrelle can bounce back and have a solid year. That's why I believe he should not be traded this off season. Bring Mark Wiley back, and sign a catcher like Mike Lieberthal or Paul LoDuca, maybe even Jason Kendall. You can't sell D-Train when his stock is so low. He will bounce back next year given a better catcher and better defense. Our offense was solid, but Miguel Olivo is not the answer. He is not the guy to manage the staff and he commits too many errors. He was a pass ball machine this year.

If you are going to trade someone, it is obviously going to be Miguel Cabrera, who will bring in the most value. And yes I know, it's sad to think we would have to trade yet another great player, especially our very own Albert Pujols, but if you think about it, even if we get the stadium deal Miguel will command a contract very similar to the deal A-Rod received from Texas when his contract is up. Will Loria give that to Miguel? Even if we have our stadium deal done already, signed and sealed...will the Marlins shell out a 10 year, 250 million dollar deal? I would love to say yes, but I am just not sure that they would. The Red Sox will, the Yankees, Mets, Dodgers, Angels and Giants may. Maybe even the Rangers or Mariners...but the Marlins? That is doubtful.

Like someone said yesterday, top notch pitching is much harder to come by than top notch offense. If we can acquire top notch pitching in exchange for Miguel Cabrera, we have to take it. Either that, or sign Miguel to a 5 year, 80 million dollar extension right now (though that won't happen). lol

Hmmm, that's a lot of players the Marlins would receive, but not enough "smiles" for my taste. When I go to the game, I wanna see smiles on the players' faces, not a bunch of names.

The combined wiggly feel rating for all the players the Marlins would potentially receive would be quite low.

I'll take it... works out for everybody involved....

:lol

They can't afford him... might as well get something back..

The Marlins won't be able to afford Cabrera soon. I guess we should just trade him for next to nothing, too.

Pretty ridiculous idea if you ask me.

The Twins get screwed over in this trade, and the Dodgers give up way too much.

how about:

Twins send Santana to the Yankees for Joba Chamberlain, Ian Kennedy, Jose Tabata

Marlins send Cabrera to the Dodgers for Chad Billingsley and Matt Kemp

Now that I look at this, it might not be quite enough for the Marlins...we might have to ask for kemp, billingsley, and La Roche

It would NEVER happen

Trade Scott Olsen for Kaz Matsui.A lineup with Kaz and Hanley at the top would be sick.

pass

considering that kaz matsui is a free agent, we wouldnt have to trade for him. what about dan uggla?

oh and kaz is getting 6M or more this year so expect our FO to be out of the bidding, even if they were thinking about it.
