November 18, 200718 yr I put up a post on the blog about it. The MLS put up an in-depth look at the upcoming expansion on their website in this article.
November 18, 200718 yr Damn that would be awesome. I'd finally have a local team to root for that would enhance my following of the game.
November 18, 200718 yr Author Damn that would be awesome. I'd finally have a local team to root for that would enhance my following of the game. My big concern is the city would use this MLS card against the Marlins in negotiations and it falls apart. On the other hand, MLB and MLS officials have learned to co-exist in Washington when dealing with the District of Columbia and that may lead to the Fish Ballpark Deal possibly getting done faster with a Soccer-Specific Stadium in the plans.
November 18, 200718 yr Oh wait, that would mean we're f***ed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11 who said that? no reason to believe that it would hurt our plans.

November 18, 200718 yr Oh wait, that would mean we're f***ed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11 who said that? no reason to believe that it would hurt our plans. It would almost indirectly promote downtown for us. I really dont want to have to go into the split stadium again.

What I mean is that I wouldn't want to go into a half soccer/ half baseball facility. I want full baseball.

The City is thinking of having a Marlins Ballpark and a Soccer-Specific Stadium at the Orange Bowl. The Soccer-Specific Stadium could also be used for High School Football games.
November 19, 200718 yr They should put a soccer specific stadium in Tropical Park, or they could arguably use FIU's new football stadium.
November 19, 200718 yr Author They should put a soccer specific stadium in Tropical Park. Problem is that Tropical Park is not within the City Limits. Not that the county would mind.... :mischief

Anyone remember when the land east of the AAA was supposed to be used for a soccer stadium?
November 19, 200718 yr Soccer stadium in Hialeah~!~ Jerry del Castillo will have the mayor of Hialeah on his radio show tomorrow afternoon to discuss the specifics. :mischief
November 19, 200718 yr Author At least we know who will be calling Miami MLS games. *looks at Craig Minervini*
November 20, 200718 yr Huh? I was referencing the original plan that had the "New" Orange Bowl and a retractable-roof Marlins Stadium in the OB site.
November 20, 200718 yr Um, ok guys let's get real here. If I remember correctly, and I do, the last time MLS was here it was a joke and disaster. Very small crowds and and uninterested media. For those wishing to argue that the Marlins don't have attendance remember there is a fan base that we can point through television no such thing for the now defunct Fusion. The city/county would never deal with the MLS the way they are dealing with the MLB. Yes, I do see the county/city using this as a chip against the Marlins but anyone with a half a brain knows that the city WON'T shell out money for the MLS so, as far as I'm concerned, this is just another non-story in the long list of them.

I also remember the coach with the funny hair and the stupid accent.
November 20, 200718 yr Wait, didn't MLS have a soccer team down here and then folded the team the year after having a tremendous growth in attendance and popularity in the area? Yeah.....

Yeah, and the team had one of the higher attendances their last year (over 14,000), and won the Supporters' Shield. KC still averages around 10,000 a game, and no one would dare touch them because that's Lamar Hunt's team. Bring back the Miami Fusion, and soccer will thrive in Miami.
